    I have been watching your videos for a few months, and have enjoyed your enthusiasm for the Scottish mountains. I too, enjoy walking , camping, bivvying and bothying. There are many more videos to watch, but I have noticed in a couple of recent ones that you consult weather applications. Perhaps you would mention in a future video those applications that you regard as particularly good for forecasting weather in the Scottish mountains. Best wishes Charles.

    Certainly Autumnal, get my vote for your Trangia one pot wonder and fresh naan bread, makes the boil in bag look boring, it occupies your times, mentally stimulating must be more tasty too.
    If you don’t mind a flask, great for keeping water hot for a quick brew, early morning or breakfast to get some warm inside to fire the system off agn.
    Great site you don’t always have to go high up or walk miles to enjoy an evening out in the hills.

    • @StripeyHatGuy
      @StripeyHatGuy  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Thanks a lot, but I am by no means a proper mountaineer, neither a climber - just grew up close to the Alps/Member of the German Alp Association back in the days... The stripey hat is made by my wife like 9 or so years ago and I just like the feel of the wool. A funny story of the wool is that we actually bought it at the Bavarian Pumpkin Weight Championship 😂👍.

    I had the same thoughts as others about the wall, and, after reading the comments, I came away further impressed in that you readily admitted that you didn't remove the wall, that it was a mistake in not doing so and a lesson learned. That is the sign of a humble fella.

    I still don’t understand why you’re not using a sealed tent. By using that green plastic shelter, you’re exposed to all the wind coming in from the bottom, your heat escapes from the tent, and you had to build that mini rock wall to prevent the wind coming at you. A sealed tent would prevent all that and save you time.

    Great to see that winter is coming, that's such a great spot for camping. I really, really hope you dismantled that wall and spread the stones back out into the landscape afterwards, this is a fragile, wild place and you should always leave it the way you find it, not with new structures...

    I suppose you don't eat meat, but it being so cold a little meat would have made your meal more savoury & more hearty, don't you think at certain time's it's best to lay aside such principles?
    I mean does a couple hundred grams of meat really matter in the grand scheme of the universe? Your nan bread was very tasty looking. I noticed no trees up there so no fire, what a pity, any fish in that lake do you think? I used to wear two hats in the winter so I was nicknamed obviously, "two hats". btw, I cannot believe that you "grams hunter" just deliberately went out with "super heavy" trangia set :) .. I am now a bit sarcastic (in funny manner because I have almost everything what Trangia ever made and I am using that .. I just use Trangia for 3 decades) .. my usual lightweight setup when I boil only water is to go out just with 25size set alu kettle and in summer I use Trangia alcohol burner (heavy but efficient) with `Jolmo Lander Titanium stove' (from aliexpress - my only gear from there and the best, highly recommended, trangia fits into it, before the name was `Argos Titanium stove') and in the winter I use some gas burner (trangia + triangle or I have few other free standing gas burners like for example Kovea Spider Gas) .. jetboil hype just missed me entirely, I don't have any, never had and not planning to have some in future .. If I want to enjoy some real cooking, I do it same :) .. I take out some custom set of my trangia gear

    • @StripeyHatGuy
      @StripeyHatGuy  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think every stove has it’s usage, currently I am enjoying the trangia with all of its advantages/comfort. Before I went to the minimum gear required I used a msr multifuel 1st Generation for like 5 years…brilliant stove for winter in the alps.
      Regarding the yetboil, missed the hype as well as I already have a gas stove (BSR 3000).
      But yeah, a proper meal can’t be beaten, hence I dehydrate my own for boiling water - never tried a bought one 😎

      A single wall tent/tarp is for sure colder inside in comparison to other tents, when you have snow to cover up the bottom I consider this setup basically 4 season) but that is just my opinion. Everyone uses different gear and has different needs.

      You guys really need to get real here. The ‘structure’ of two rows of rocks which Stripey made is next to a boulder field…have you ever thrown a stone into a lake or have you ever put a stone on top of a cairn?

      @@MaliceGLA certainly have thrown rocks in a lake as a kid But your comparison to building a wall is totally different and doesn't carry any weight in this debate. A stone thrown in a lake can no longer be seen once thrown in and doesn't alter the appearance of the Lake . As for the Cairn scenario no I don't place rocks on them. Whilst building a 2 tier wall which" IS" visible and alters the landscape and appearance of the environment is the complete opposite. Its immaterial if a boulder field is next to it. Hardly leave no trace is it ?? Going on your basis then. Would it be acceptable to build man-made structures on every boulder field, Rocky summit and Plateau because there's rocks and leave it in place . ??

      @@Steve72Outdoors living in Austria, yes we do have on almost all boulder fields/summits a cairn, markers and painted rocks. As I said, don’t want to argue here just hope that you really life after the principles you say online.

      Appreciate the comments and thoughts! Wasn’t really thinking that the ‘wall’ would spark such an interest and good to hear other people’s opinions!
      For me so far leaving no trace was obviously taking all material out from a hike which I brought in or found on the way (left or lost by others) I even go so far that I drink most of the time the water from cleaning my pasta bolognaise pot, nope I didn’t do it with the frying pan in that video either (I just cleaned it with water and put the dirty water in the boulder field…) . Cairns, way markers etc. I personally never considered in leaving a trace - but I know that some do (particular in America). What I haven’t shown in the video was like campfire sides with burned ground around the Loch…long story short, I heard a different opinion, thought about it and I think it is right - will definitely remove the wall next time.
      So again thanks for the mentioning it!

      Yeah definitely! The rice and chorizo is fantastic, got this recommended a while ago and really enjoyed it! Thanks a lot for the tip with the Asian supermarket, mine was just from Aldi and I think they discontinued it 😏.
