It’s sort of difficult to compare Oakland and Detroit. Detroit had so many jobs shipped overseas, and that’s what led to crime and the decline of that city. What’s happening in Oakland is just anarchy. It’s like the Wild West out there. It wasn’t the loss of jobs, it’s the fact that the DA and mayor pretty much reward criminal behavior, so there isn’t a fear factor of getting caught

Having traveled for McD's scouting out new locations, (we are a independent company that contracts with McD's) we are limited to how many big city McD's they will have. McD's does close restaurants, All that is left in major cities are some store front ones, the rest are in the suburbs. McD isn't stupid enough to open in an unsafe area. They may have some in the bad areas, but their days are numbered.

Not all that bad. When Waffle House closes due to crime, then you've hit rock bottom. A town over there was one off the highway, small town, that had regular thefts, shots fired, and police there regularly. Still kept on going, even with tweakers using in the bathroom and some robberies. Crazy place, you couldn't have paid me to go there at all. I was surprised they didn't lose their business license for all the crap that happened on their property... all the police calls. There was a hotel nearby that lost their permit for less.

Good for Denny's for actually saying the reason they're closing, unlike Walgreens who are closing stores in areas hit by high rates of shoplifting who states "corporate downsizing" as their reason. It's sad all around because no one wins from criminal activity, but at least Denny's is not glossing over the real reason why they're closing.
