    I don't fpv, but I still have my original tx16s in gold, I love it and it brings back nostalgia for me, like the futaba gold radios. But it's so popular because you can't name any other brand that offers upgrades that you actually do yourself.. its like having a hotrod, you can upgrade it any way you want.

    Have the first silver TX16S MAX and love it. For me not enough difference to change to the Mark II though. Next purchase for it is the Five33 MCK thumbsticks, find the original a little bit to slippery sometimes. Still running OpenTX but is going to swap for EdgeTX soon. You can't go wrong with eather version of the radio I think. Great radio overall! Great informative review Andy!

    Wow Pal thanks so much you help me make the final decision on my next purchase of a controller!!! I'm a noob and started out with a Emax Tinyhwak freestyle 2 RTF kit. Didn't know there was so much to learn for this hobby thank God for TH-cam!!! I have already swapped out the box goggles for Fat Shark Attitude V6 goggles with Rapid Fire. Being a noob the 4 in 1 multi protocol is nice and module bay for future proof is also nice for later purchase of different drones!!!

    Great review Andy, I always enjoy watching your videos. Just so you know, RadioMaster does sell a removable antenna mod under TX16S Accessories, so you could buy that when purchasing a new radio from them and add that mod as soon as you get it (I ordered one and am waiting for it to get here!)
    Additionally, for the modules - I have the full Crossfire Tx too, and I’ve found that the best way to get it into the radio is to put the module in the bay, then press down on each side’s release tabs. That seems to get it in without too much trouble (at least for me) and it means I’m not pressing on the expensive module, but rather the cheap to replace JR bay adapter.
    I got the MCK edition simply because I’m a sucker for that PVD (Plasma Vapor Deposition) look.
    Finally, for the hole in the back of the radio, RadioMaster markets it as being a modding hole/being for adding a button or switch if you want. They even sell both momentary and 2 position buttons that are supposed to be a direct wire into the radio.

    I bought the original version, hall sensor with touch screen a couple weeks ago. $199. I don't plan to change it at all. It works fine and I can spend money on other things like receivers or frames, FC, ESC, etc. I have the 4 in 1 so I can fly the D8 micros and just about everything else out there. I have the 900 ELRS module in it and that is all I fly on. Switched out all of my Crossfire to ELRS a few weeks ago because of price and availability. If I do anything to mine it will be to paint the case with Cerakote the next time I spray some guns. I did change it to EdgeTX.

    The antenna should be made removable, but require you to disassemble the shell to remove the default antenna. This would prevent noobs from damaging their radios. Just give the stock antenna a flange to prevent it from being pulled out of the shell

    Probably won't upgrade, but if I did I would probably buy the 4-in-1 version, even though all of my quads are ELRS. I already have an ELRS module, and I would rather have the ability to fly other stuff should I need to, plus, as you say, the power of the inbuilt one is limited.
    To add to your survey, of the 4 of us who fly together regularly, 2 of us have the TX16S. The other two are FrSky QX7

    The same thing happens to me when I try and plug my CRSF Module into my Taranis QX7S. The CRSF Module is just a tad bigger and has to be kinda forced in perfectly straight. I think it's a TBS issue considering all my other modules fit perfect with no issues. Thanks Andy 😊

    • @AndyRCchannel

      this is true its a tbs issue but the crossfire module clips in much better on the first version compared to the second and you have to be mega careful. you can think its clipped in but its not. So just an advisory more than anything

  • @audiogek
    @audiogek 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The non-removable antenna is because of laws preventing changing(raising) dbi. That's why tbs had to make a cover with screws over the sma for their module.

    • @audiogek
      @audiogek 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AndyRCchannel Guess it's not really enforced. But the well known names or bigger companies don't like to take that chance I think. But that's what Trappy said, about the law, I never looked into it.

    • @flyingdutchmanfpv
      @flyingdutchmanfpv 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AndyRCchannel I suspect they just don't care about it. Shipped directly from China. Same reason why you see any of them with a CE mark. Almost all of the modules are in fact illegal to use... (in Europe anyway) But so are VTX's set above 25mw. Chances of getting in trouble with it are also very low... who's going to uphold these laws regulations in in daily practice, right?

    • @flyingdutchmanfpv

    • @pfeerick
      @pfeerick 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately if Trappy said it was law, I'd want the link to the law... I get the impression at times there is more hot air than fact. I would not be surprised if this is true though, but is a more recent legal requirement. If it is, it would seem at odds with radiomaster still making transmitters with removable antenna (e.g. TX12) and that it is an upgrade option for the TX16S... although that probably falls a grey area then...

I feel like I’ve invested so much time from nearly bricking it (failed update), playing with the stick tension, researching lua scripts, updating to edge, setting custom sounds etc. I’m fully committed to it.

    Great review... and I have to admit I was oblivious to the bluetooth/wireless module... so am now going to start pestering Ben "are we there yet!?" :😂
    Just some additions/comments from watching the video... I think Lee (Painless360) has his heart set on orange/yellow trimmings ;) I would think the hole in the JR bay will go away, as it was added during the development cycle as the first iterations of the internal ELRS module had a USB port for hard-wired/recovery firmware update (now update-able through passthrough), and that was how you could access it without dismantling the transmitter. The hole in the back (opposite the new headphones jack) is for DIY... I don't fancy your chances of changing the battery through that (and wouldn't recommend it due to the high chance of shorting something out).
    Another plus is the trainer port is now standard TRS, rather than the longer-than-standard TRRS one that was used previously, so no more having to modify the socket, or source a different plug.
    I have both the V1 and V2 (pre-production). For my V1, I added the AG01s (and red CNC bits), and the V2 has it's v4 hall gimbals. I do prefer the AG01s due to the stick ends, lack of flex in the gimbal, and the extra mass seems to make centering more positive (less bounce). I'll probably get spares for the sliders and pots as the V2 ones are a real improvement. I can also see that difference in the faceplate... the top and bottom halves of the faceplate are the same now, rather than two different finishes.

    Hi.. Million thanks for this video 😎👍🏾.
    Today ive just done two flights( a full equipment maiden actually- TX16S mk2 v4 Edgetx,R88 wired as sbus,Zohd Kopilot Lite ,Bixler3), but im get upset..
    1- rssi not good, during takeoff only get around 67db. While flying around 90ft tx16s says 'rssi low' @ 52db.. the furthest ive tried is around 120ft and tx16 says 'rssi critical' and at 39db..almost lost signal.
    Have tried both D8 and D16 protocol on the Frsky modulation.also same.R88 rx dual antenna angled at 90deg or 180deg also same, rssi not strong and not full up to 100%.
    2- 1st flight done. Manual & Balance mode is fine,if switched to RTH mode the Bixler just circling above me at 50ft+-, it wont self land to runway(as i set during power up the plane on the middle of the field).. i did adjust the Rth/Rad Pot clockwise till it stop.as illustrated in zohd manual.
    3- second flight. Tried change rf protocol to Frsky,D16 8Ch.and tried both style angled antenna( 90° & 180°), still didnt get full rssi to 100 during sit on runway.just got under 77db..
    Managed to fly around 100ft radius only,during last landing ive stalled the bixler and it just dive stall from 20ft height..no way to survive it😅..loll
    Conclusion: what is not right about it? Did i missed setup something on Tx16s that i just bought new?
    Kopilot unit- RTH function didnt land the plane, is it just thats all?

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Quite simple really. Frsky locking out their system leaving a big gap in the market for an open source radio that can bind to anything. Jumper comes in with the tx16 where there's a disagreement internally. one person wanted functionality over quality (t18 with built in r9 but executed poorly. Gimbals literally fell out of my one) jumper continues with this ethos with the t pro not working with elrs devs and releasing a lemon. Radiomaster is born and went down the quality route as well as functionality.. working with devs and rewarding them. Massive success at the right price
