  • Trip to take ownership of our 2018 Cutwater C30. Stay tuned as we take more adventures in our new boat to the Bahamas and in a few years, to the Caribbean. Out boat is currently stock, but am currently installing 870 watts of solar, Victron 150/70 Smart Solar Charge Controller, new AIS module with anchor alarm, and Victron BMV 712 battery monitor.

    I'm going to be in the market for a C30. How'd the 3/4 ton do towing? I also have a 3/4 Duramax and I figured I'd need a 1 ton.

      I towed my cut water C30 with my 3/4 ton Duramax 2011 all the time probably close to 24,000 miles. It has plenty of going power and I had no significant issues. However just realized that the manufacturer severely under rates trailers tires and the boat. My boat and trailer together packed for a trip would weigh just over 17,000 lb. I needed to upgrade my hitch to something more significant make sure your drawbar is rated at it. And make sure you have good breaks on all three axles of your cut water. My truck did porpoise Ford and backwards like a seesaw several times. However I did have factory shocks and my truck has about 160,000 mi. I don't have the C30 any longer but if I continue to tow it I would probably put some rancho 9000 on the back where I can manually turn up the resistance in the shock absorbers when I tow and then soften it back up when I'm not going. I almost always got 10.2 mi to the gallon not better not worse.

      My truck was rated for 17,000 towing with a gooseneck not a hitch. The towing capacity with a hitch is significantly less. I didn't know if the lower rating was because the factory hitch was rated at 13,000. Some of the porpoising I experienced could be due to the fact that I had the smallest 3/4 ton you could buy. Mine was a extra cab not even a crew cab and it was also a short bed. I purchased this truck so I can get it in and out of my garage as nothing else would fit.

    did you sell this boat right after you trip? if so why?

      @@mastercraftlarrya3077 not right after, maybe 9 months. We decided to move to FL instead of vacationing there. We moved there, but decided to sell the boat and use it as a down for our house since we owned it outright. We now live in Florida and are debt free including our house. I miss the boat, but love our house and new town.

    Hey Guys, I know you will be bias, but interested what you think of towing the C30 needing the oversize permit instead of the smaller C28?

    • @lorneserpa5888
      @lorneserpa5888  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the states you travel through. Some are only apply on line, easy. Some states give permits for a year at a time. I don't like that you are not supposed to travel at night

      I plan to play dumb....towed 3000 miles so far with no permit. Cops pass me all the time. Only drive through the highways and daytime.

    I'll be interested to see how your experiences in the Bahamas go. Been thinking of doing something similar in a couple of years, and the C30 is one of the boats I've been looking at for it.
