It makes it much easier to know whether to accept or decline. I’ve always done the math in my head fare/time expected. If it’s over $30/hr I take it! Whether it’s a $5 fare or a $50 fare

*Joe, where I respectfully disagree.* I'm in a secondary market in Palm Springs. I am frequently offered high dollar per hour rides but low total upfront fare.
      E.G. $3.30 trip.
It is not possible in my market to do 10 trips in one hour to earn $33/hr.
Perhaps in a major market, but here 2-3 trips per hour is the norm.
If you've got a better way of looking at the numbers let me know, cuz for now I don't take those high dollar per hour, but low up front fare offers.

Lyft doesn't consider the wait time for this hourly rate calculation. So if each rider took 3 minutes to get to the car, and in average if you did 10 rides a day, that 30 minutes are NOT calculated. I took 3 minutes very conservatively. In my market riders take more than 3 minutes to get to the car.

    You're a detail-oriented guy, I can't believe you fell for it!
If you click at the [ride details ] and compare Estimated Vs. Final, you'll see the final per hour rate is considerably lower than what they showed you upfront. It's not on few rides; it's 100% of the time.

What the estimation doesn't include is wait time. But it is truthful in the hourly estimate for the pickup and drop off times. It gets lowered by wait time, traffic delays, etc. It's a tool not a guarantee.

I’m so sick and tired of hearing this! In St. Louis I average $30-$40 per hour. My last corporate job I was salary at $43/hr salary which is rated at 40hrs/wk. Reality I worked 50+ hrs/wk. breakdown to $34/hr. Minus 20-25% taxes I was taking home $27/hr. Averaging $35/hr for ride share, expenses more than cancel out having to pay taxes and will end up with more in my pocket than corporate America was allowing me to keep. Start looking past the nose on your face people! Realize how much money we actually make for what little work we actually do!! Stop the bitching and add some positivity to this community!

That hourly rate info is meaningless to me, as most rides don't occupy a full hour, and says nothing about how many miles a trip is going to put wear and tear on the car or operating cost of gas, and that's too many calculations to do in my head, while driving safely, within the 10 seconds provided. They really should tell us as much info as possible, but the most important piece of information was rate per mile, which Lyft used to provide in my market, until replacing that with the hourly rate. For any one who doubts that importance, I think the fact Lyft obscured the per mile rate and shows hourly tells you everything you need to know. It wasn't a perfect system, but considering the IRS mileage rate is a rough estimate for operating costs, any amount over that was what Lyft thought my time was worth. Rides paying 78 cents per mile, meant Lyft felt the time I put into driving plus the effort put into my customer service was only worth 9 cents per mile. In my city , on average every mile driven takes 2 minutes, so those low rate rides paid about $2.70 per hour, whereas rides with decent bonus amount could pay about $2/mile, valuing my time at around $39/hour.

Why Uber is making harder to see the destination of the rider once you accept the ride? It’s only after you pick up the rider then you can see the destination. Before you accept the trip, you can see the destination, but once you accept the trip you can no longer see the destination. This is sad, because some time you get a ping while you have a rider, you accept the add on trip hoping to sort it once you complete your trip. After dropping off the rider, you only see the address for the pick up, not the destination 😮

It's like they offer me a horrible trip and when I don't accept it they start tossing more and more like the one I just turned down. Or they'll send me that same trip again but they'll try to toss it in again with the BS trips hoping I'll accept it. Another thing they send these trips faster than ever... So every now and then I accidentally accept trips that I don't want and I have to cancel them. Which is hurting that rating as well... It's never been like this for me in the 8 years I've been with Uber. It's just crazy they expect drivers to bend over and take what they give. Sad.

Stop complaining, find other apps to work off. Because ALL of corporate America knows this, if you had other options you wouldnt complain they would be sending you an email, “where you been?” LMAO It’s a fact it’s insulting that they switched from showing the per mile rate to hourly because they know it’s easier to trick a driver with that. Driving a car if you get .95 cents and higher per mile that’s a good fare(why Minnesota has .89 cent minimum). Truckers sometimes take loads for $2.35 a mile if they are in places like Florida and they have full truck loads coming out of FL to get out of there. USE OTHER APPS to make money! There are wayyyyy to many thirsty drivers that will literally take a ride for .50 cents a mile and both companies have the data, the dates and times when the drivers do it! They don’t OWN CARS! STOP USING THEIR APPS ONLY! They will NEVER STOP PIMPING DRIVERS! They stay on the corners like they supposed to and bring that money back and they come to TH-cam to bad mouth the PIMP to the Assistant PIMPS Rideshare guy and the other Assistants!🤣🤣🤣LMAO

If the ride is estimated to be 20 minutes in reality it’s gonna be 25 minutes. Not to mention they tell you to obey all traffic laws. If you go the speed limit that 20 minute ride is gonna be more like 30 minutes.

Unless they're standing on the curb, that's not an 8-minute ride. One very important thing to understand is you can't do enough $5 rides in an hour to make $41.00, you would have to complete eight rides, that's not going to happen. The most rides I've ever completed in an hour is 4 and that was a near perfect situation on lyft with a 3 ride streak set in a 5 mile radius. The obvious reason to get four at that point was to double up the streak, If I got lucky I could double up the streak 50% of the time by getting four rides in an hour. So personally, it's difficult for me to accept anything less than $7.50 for a 15-minute ride to make my goal of at least $30 per hour.

      @STLGigGuy-g7l วันที่ผ่านมา

@STLGigGuy-g7l As I said rarely will you ever complete 4 in an hour, it's got to be a nearly perfect scenario. But let's say you did, that's $20 You have 3 to 5 minutes to dazzle your rider into tipping you LOL. I would rather do the $30+ an hour plan and build tips on top of that. Plus I'll have more time with each rider. Previous to rideshare, I spent 15 years traveling the country working in exclusive fine dining. Every place I ever worked I was head waiter within 30 days, I'll go toe to toe with anybody on tips. For the last 21 years I've been an Executive Search Recruiter, where I have placed numerous C-level executives in Fortune 1000 companies, working in over 18 industries both nationally and internationally. I can get any person talking about anything and be happy happy doing so. I'm constantly told by people that never talk they're surprised I was able to get them to talk. I only currently work 2 to 4 positions per year, so I've done rideshare almost 11 years now part-time. Your welcome to take all the $3-5 rides

I'm not going to pick up someone not knowing where im going. Forget about it. Plus they rarely pay anything for the time and miles to pick up the rider. Abysmal... I never calculated the one mile per minute requisite I know so many drivers lived by. I dot don't care about distance, I care about time. So when an Uber offer comes up and it's say 7 dollars, and it takes 22 total minutes, that's less than 33 cents per minute. Hard pass. If you want to make 30 per hour, which is the number I've also targeted as a the baseline goal, you need to be making 50 cents per minute. Easiest way to do that is look at the total time of the trip and decide that by the fare. If you're making 33 cents per minute, you're making a bit more than 20 an hour. I think that's the easiest way to get a per hour representation of what an Uber fare is worth. They seem to target about 30 cents per hour where I live, which when you factor fuel, maintenance and deprecation of vehicle, is worse than minimum wage.

i think the estimated hourly rate into is garbage. it's assuming that your going to get those similar consistent trips over a 60 minute period but I'm small markets like the one i drive in, we can get a trip them wait 30-60 mins before another ride comes back in. the only credit i give to Lyft is that they tell the driver how much they'll get paid for the trip, how far the driver has drive to pick up and got far from pickup to drop off. we don't get that on Uber. with Uber, were only told hour long the trip is and don't know where the passenger pickup is until AFTER we accept the trip. the only exception is when the driver is in the airport queue because they know the passenger is at the terminal 60 seconds away. when driving in the city, the drive can get an 8 minute trip (from pickup to drop off) but won't know if they have to drive 3 mins or 20 mins to get to the pickup. for that reason, i only turn on over at the airport. they refuse to give us up front fair data where I live.

it's all bs really. driving doesn't really mean /hr we get paid by the trip amount and milage. time is not a factor, because there are only a few rides in between and a lot of wait time.

notice how Lyft's per hour estimate tends to leave out little mandatory things like average wait time at each pickup ( 3-5 min )... even if you were doing trips like this back to back for the whole hour, the reality puts that actual hourly rate at more like $18-22 vs the propaganda of $41 ... good job on the snake oil pitch Lyft !! After watching the video I got to ask is this guy a shill for Lyft, because there is no way you could not realize the fact those numbers aren't bogus and he is hard selling this as a benefit to drivers

I look at per mile 1st then time

  •  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

I don't look at miles, never have...total time, I want 25.00 minimum per hour, that's .43 per minute drive........10 minute total drive should be not less than 4.30, although I won't take a 4.30 ride either.

Can I ask you what your costs are to drive your car a mile? That is your biggest expense.

    •  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@johnmandell7413 My car is advertised at 34/34, I am regularly getting 38+ but haven't had the car long enough. Average cost of gas in my area right now is just under 3.00, I got it for 3.67 at Costco just 3 days ago

I get really irritated listening to you because you are assuming that everybody is driving in a bigger market. You drive in the Minneapolis market . I Drive in the St. Cloud market. It may be the largest covering pretty much the rest of Minnesota going west but we only operate in St. Cloud., Waite Park, Sartell and Sauk Rapids . It covers quite a few miles with nothing in between and not even a 10th of the population in the Minneapolis market.
That per hour just doesn’t work here,
Your worst possible day would be an outstanding day for us.
My average estimate per hours is about $21. If I’m lucky to even get enough rides in that hour to make that even possible..
I don’t drive very much anymore. It’s just becoming too expensive to drive now on a semi regular basis
Uber still on the rate card. I refuse to drive for Uber ever again.
    Please keep that in mind

Thank you for the post....However did you not read the fine print of the ESt....it says it's not guaranteed.
When some one orders a ride for example 5 miles to pick up 2 miles to drop off as mere example. It is not going to turn into and hour drive.
Furthermore, short trips pays more than long trips period. If they want me to drive for an hour OUR price is 140.00 period.
It's not that we get paid by the hour, we are not employees. Consider this when you buy and air plane ticket...is the airlines paying for you to get to the airport.
Therefore, I am not picking up nobody for free. 10 miles to pick you up. I need 2.00 per mile...drop off 2 miles 2.50 per mile short trip...My total amount to me 25.00 period. Riders paying for a service that is not cheap.
We have bills to pay. 41.00 and hour breaks down to 15.00 hour after taxes and expenses. You get get 15.00 hour at McDonald's without wear and tear on vehicle.
    Est amount scammers period.

I have a better idea. The estimate should be based on 1.00 per minute and 2.50 per mile, cumulative. Everything is up. Bread. Gas. Rent. Everything except these companies cheap rides. Long overdue to start charging, more, lots more. I operate in MA and hopefully with a union we can get rid of fuzzy math.
