Kinda funny how she plays the Queen in the crown, who was shown to be an unaffectionate and cold mother, and now we see her as this wonderful caring mom. She’s literally one of my favorite actors!

The one time I personally felt like they should've gone with a hug instead of a kiss would've been in the corridor. At least start with the hug, and then take the kiss after he's like "We're in the corridor." Nick just seemed so desperate and worried, and I feel like hugs are better in the moment for calming that kind of thing.
@@vindifference They did that scene as a sort of reverse to the scene with Nick in Charlie’s room after coming in the rain. So the kiss is 100% appropriate, it’s reassuring their relationship again, which I think is the purpose each kiss is supposed to serve. If you think about it just about every kiss between the two up until the beach scene is whenever there’s uncertainty in their relationship, it’s meant to reaffirm their love for each other.
Everytime I hear Harry ask "What's it like being gay?" my brain immediately goes "What's it like being a dick??" and I find myself hilarious for a few seconds. 😂😌

I love how this show gives healthy examples of how to deal with issues respectfully, even if it breaks with romantic clichés. Like everyone cheering for Nick to possibly kiss Charlie on the sports day publicly. But it's so much more respectful he didn't. He made the big move to drop everything to talk with him, yes. But he didn't force him into a public kiss. He had to fear Charlie wanted to break up so just kissing him would have been so trespassing. So instead he took him somewhere private enough to sort things out first, confess to him, and when they kissed, he couldn't have been bothered about them being seen. It really gives good examples. Communication over peer pressure and great romantic actions. 👍

For real! Kit is such an amazing actor because just looking at that scene was heartbreaking. He really knows how to sell the emotion with his facial expressions so much.
Anyone could have played Nick’s mother as she had very little actual screen time. But casting Olivia Colman was the cherry on top of this already incredible show.

Even though Ben is cruel and horrible to our lovely Charlie, I do feel quite sorry for him because he seems like he’s in so much pain and I really hope he grows past this.

It's easy to fall into the trap of treating these characters as two dimensional but there could be lots of reasons to explain Ben's attitude.
That's not to say his behaviour can be justified, but there could be any number of factors involved.
You're not a freak darling, you are beautiful and we love you. Also, being red is not weird (especially when you're pale like me) so I don't know why everyone is so bothered by that. Nick telling Charlie he’s his favorite person and that he needs him to know that is beautiful... I love how they made such an effort to make their relationship be centered in their mutual care, respect, and admiration, they were always honest to each other.
There were so many occasions where a lesser show would have gone for the overdramatic plots of letting a misunderstanding drag and create conflict until the end… Charlie and Nick for the most part were always there for each other, and Nick always did the right thing even when he struggled in finding his own
It was the "I never thought this would happen to me", that broke me man. That sentiment defined most of my high school and university period, and while I've stopped dwelling on it as an adult so as not to be sad anymore, this show just reminded me that....yeah. I didn't think that would ever happen to me. And I still don't think that might ever happen to me, especially now that I'm so much older. This was a happy episode, but that line made me the saddest I'd been while watching. Can't regret it though, cause the sadness was mixed with so much beautiful vicarious joy.

I felt like such a heartless bastard watching this show because I didn’t cry, I just teared up once in the beginning of episode 8. For me it was a lot of smiling from happiness, smiling through pain, yelling at Harry, rolling my eyes at Ben, stanning Elle and Tori, simping for Nick Nelson, and feeling refreshed bc this show is very wholesome🥰

I can't believe I missed how they hinted on Charlie's ED during some scenes in Season 1 like when Tori asked if he wanted pizza and he says no and then Charlie not eating his lunch in episode 7, it's really subtle tho and I'm still not ready for it in season 2 (possibly)
They did a great job subtly foreshadowing it - I think it goes right over most peoples heads though tbh. I like the ‘warped thoughts’ bits too foreshadowing other mental illness as well.

Just needed to add my two cents: I’m constantly ready plaudits for kit, but to me Joe is an even bigger revelation. Not only does he do everything the role requires of him but he is so in tune with the emotions his character portrays that not only is every emotion coming from his eyes but the muscles under the facia and skin in his face sometimes quiver from his emotional immersion/ reactions. Like Sondheim said: “ they’re a lot of great singers and great actors, but very few can do both: it’s in the eyes! He noted Streisand on Broadway in Funny Girl, he said “ when she’ acting she’s great, but when she sings, although spectacular, it’s Barbra, she’s not acting”! Charlie is so immersed, there’s not a false note in his performance! K.m

And to Nick's character. For once in his life he has something he is willing to fight for. All those years he stood by and let harry do these bad things. Sure he is a sweetheart but he still let him do all those things. So to have him not stay silent now and just protect what he loves... perfect
This show broke me emotionally. I wish I had had something like this to watch when I was a kid. I bawled over and over at the pure queer joy. I’ve cried every time I have watched (which is 7 times now yeah don’t judge me).

For those wondering, Isaac was reading a book called Gender Explorers: Ours Stories of Growing Up Trans and Changing the World. Its contents are interviews with trans peeps, and it's a very uplifting read overall. I highly recommend it :)

Your entire mood for episode 7 is a universal experience, it's definitely the darkest of the season. Quite literally too, the golden lighting and rainbow lens flairs are pretty much completely gone throughout it.
As much as I'd love to get more/longer episodes next season, I think when you binge it you'll see just how perfectly paced it is and I kind of hope they don't mess with that balance. It manages to tell a complete story, without any filler but still maintaining this relaxed vibe.
Also, if you want more Tori, pick up Solitaire which is the book that Heartstopper is actually a spinoff of. And you might get more of her on screen too. It's probably a safe bet that Alice is in negotiations with Netflix or some other production company for the rights to her other works too, given how successful Heartstopper has been, and I suspect that's why we haven't gotten a season 2 announcement yet. Though Yasmin Finney, Elle's actress, just got announced as the next Doctor Who companion, which is soooo amazing for her but does make me worry a bit about her potentially being less involved in future seasons of Heartstopper.

Season 2 is gonna be a deep dive into Charlie's Mental Health while also going on the Paris trip and the introduction of Nick's Older Homophobic brother. There's going to be a emotional rollercoaster of happiness, sadness and the effects it has on Nick.
I can’t wait for a S2, I just genuinely wonder how they’ll manage to keep it light and fluffy with the source material veering much darker going into Charlie’s mental health issues. I want them to get the time they deserve to be addressed but also give it that hopeful warm feeling we get from S1.
Yeah, Alice has said it WILL be darker...but still have lightness in it. So they, hopefully, won't shy away from the darker parts...even younger teens(their target audience for the show) can have signs of mental illness, ya know? Mine started in early childhood. And started getting bad and effecting my life more significantly around 12-13. So shying away from it would absolutely suck and be a disservice, IMO.
*skipping the big spoiler* I’m almost certain S2 will end with the scene of Nick frantically tumbling out of the shower and sprinting barefoot down the sidewalk. It is going to be perfect
@@thomaskindable I really want s2 to end with Charlie having the talk with his parents about getting help. It would be a great parallel to the end of s1 with nick talking to his mum, and be a good cliffhanger for s3 without being too abrupt. Ik it might be a little too dark for the final scene, but the relief and comfort that finally talking about your issues gives might be enough to counter that.

2:40 I recommend reading Solitaire. It's Alice Oseman's first novel, with Tori being the main character and the narrator of the story. Great book!
100% this (1 year too late) its funny to me that 2 side characters from Tori's book ended up being so interesting that Alice wrote their story and it became a cornerstone of their Career. I guess that happens a lot where a debut novel isn't as popular as later ones, but rarely where that happens within the same universe.

Nick’s coming out to his mom was almost exactly like mine, other than me being 10 years older than him when I did it. I had been seeing a guy for around 6 months (initially long distance) and it so happened that a family visit would bring me close to where he was. We agreed that he’d drive up and stay with us a few days. Maybe an hour or two before he arrived, I told my mom that he’s not just a friend, but my boyfriend. My mom is an Olympic-level worrywart, so she had concerns about negative consequences (not moral ones, just things like discrimination), but was totally okay otherwise.
When he arrived, I opened the door, and gave him a hug and a little kiss right in front of everyone (other than my grandma who was in the other room), which totally confused him till I took his hands and quietly said, “it’s okay, they know”.
(What I will never know is whether my grandma, whose house we were at, ultimately understood the situation or not: we didn’t tell her, but she knew we would be sharing a bedroom. At some point in some conversation, she said “it’s good to have a bed buddy!” That was either _total_ obliviousness or _total_ comprehension, but I’ll never know which!!)
When Charlie was explaining how he felt to tori I sobbed so hard and it still makes me sad like he is so beautiful the show is so beautiful and it deserves so much love I love them and it’s amazing ❤
the part at the movies where Harry asks if Charlie's into Nick, Nick looks kinda sad (because Charlie says he's not his type) and I thought that that would become an issue later buuut it didn't and in the book the line is a lot funnier portrayed and Nick actually laughs at it :) just a quick fyi because that kinda confused me
i see it as he's sad that a) Charlie has to lie again to protect him, and b) that Charlie does it so easily, showing how he's used to it

I found that with the first episode where he says he looked off when getting changed hopwever the interaction with Charlie and Ben messaging happened after they were outside. However in the book the messaging happens whilst Charlie is getting changed and Nick dose spot him looking nervous and off. Hence why the line works in the book.
A lot of Nick standing up for Charlie looses a lot of it's oomph as in the books he gets more angry even whith the interaction with Ben when he throws him off Charlie he dosent say piss off.
Also when he tells Harry "happy birthday" there is an f bomb in that sentence which gives it more of a whack.

Nick KNOWS Charlie likes him, they both have admitted it. Nick is just sad that Charlie is lying to protect him and he feels guilty for not being brave enough yet to just admit to Harry and the rugby lads that he’s dating Charlie.
@@user-PuppyDan Nick curses a lot in the comics, but I guess they wanted to keep things lighter on the show, so we rely on the intensity of Kit's acting to have the delivery of the same message (which does work imo).

The fact that these episodes were 30 minutes or less was a crime and should have been stopped at the start by netflix execs...
I mean I would watch a super long episode of Kit just acting like a golden retriever and I wouldn't be mad.
I hear you but they would have really had to expand the source material even more than they already had. This season covers the story from the first two books. The third and fourth books are a little longer, but if we get a second season it’s possible they might cover the topics from books 3 and 4… and the online comic is not much further along than book 4. At the rate that Alice Oseman is writing the comic, if the tv series continues it will catch up really fast and we’ll have a Game of Thrones situation where the show is further along in the story than the books. They can’t delay the show too long because the actors will mature too quickly. So this could be a tricky situation if Netflix finally announces they’ll do another season or two. I don’t know how far along Alice intends to write the story, but we have gotten a peak into Nick and Charlie’s near future, so she could write about at least a few more years in their lives. We shall see.

I can't believe watching you cry over this made me cry again, you are not crying alone. I cried a lot during this series. Such a positive representation of the LGBTQ community. I was a few generation before you coming out in the 80's and nothing makes me happier than to see things getting better and more positive. Take care.
I cried most of episode 7. Talk about cutting with a Surgical knife!!! It just almost killed me! I had a whole box of tissues! Episode 8 I made me feel like everything was going down hill and I was so sad. I thought forsure everything was ruined! But the last bit of the show I was so happy for them (while crying my eyes out). My coming out was not bad but definitely did not go like this. When nick wiped away that little tear it made me cry more. 😂😂😂. Love this show

I love this show with all my heart. It’s relatable/realistic and feels warm and fuzzy at the same time. There is no over the top “Netflix movie drama” just “normal teenage stuff” and it feels so good. My teenage years are behind me, but watching heartstopper I felt this fuzzy feeling in my stomach again, like when my crush texted me in 8th grade. 😂 It is such a good show with such a great balance and I love how you feel like you -really- need to punch Henry real bad. 😂 That is some great acting!

I've really enjoyed watching your Heartstopper videos. Your editing is hilarious, love it. I've lost track now how many times I've rewatched the entire show and rewatched specific episodes and scenes. I think episodes 3 (Tara & Darcy on the dance floor, Nick & Charlie's kiss), 5 (the scene with Nick & Charlie at the claw machine and the photo he gives Charlie), and 8 (the ending) are my favourites. In episode 8 from that moment Nick stops in the middle of the rugby game onward is just this huge upward surge of happiness that really gives a huge emotional punch given everything that has come before that. That happiness montage at the very end after Nick tells his mom and them lying there on the beach, it gets me every single time. Don't be surprised if you start to feel a sense of sadness, melancholy, and a wave of repressed pain about your own experiences surfaces. This has been a very common experience now all over the world after people watch the show, in particular older LGBTQ+ people like myself who didn't have anything remotely resembling this when we were young and teenagers. This show and graphic novel is going to be healing for a lot of people I think. It shows us, the LGBTQ+ community, a better world, it shows us what's possible. I am beyond ready for another season of this show!

I'm not crying, you're crying. I have watched the series several times. The same reactions were there for me as well. It's a bit idealistic, but I do feel it's a wonderful message for the young people coming out. The acting in this series is beyond amazing. These actors are all in their teens and early 20s. The raw and real emotion is absolutely brilliant. I couldn't have asked for or imagined a series so well done. Schitt's creek was the first netflix series that I saw that had such powerful and loving characters. It's a joy to see reflections of our community for a nice change.
