    yeah shape keys are like the last thing you want to use for a curtain like what?

      I mean, it really depends in my opinion. If it's a close up and you're really trying to sell it, then you're right, no. Cloth sims are way better. But in the case of if you're just looking for some subtle movement in the background and you just HAPPEN to have curtains, I think it's just a quick and dirty way of adding some subtle animation to them that the audience really isn't going to notice, and are more just going to notice the passive movements in the background of the shot to make it seem more alive. Just cases where realism isn't really a huge priority and it's just more having small background movements, you know? You don't really wanna have to spend time setting up cloth sims and then trial and erroring them to get them to sit right, just for a background thing, when you could be spending time working on something more prominent in the scene. Just my personal thoughts tho!
