Above the 1843 Edward Baxter’s initials E B are also inlaid into the wall. At the far end of the wall near Back Lane the stonemason’s hammer and chisel are also imbedded into the wall. You need sharp eyes to find them but they’re there. The cottages you featured on Back Lane at the top of Jubilee Lane have no front doors. Built by Mr Baxter as workers cottages he purposely omitted them as he didn’t want people coming out of the properties and frightening his horse if he was passing. The racehorse, the Nancy, that the pub is named after was bred at The Paddocks by Mr Baxter and is buried under to pond in the garden there. He named it Nancy after his daughter.
Annoyingly, my bank and the NHS insist on writing letters to me giving the county as North Humberside. Still, give them chance, it's only been thirty years since North Humberside ceased to exist as an actual place.
Hi Andy, love the videos, especially as I'm looking for a village to retire to! In the Burton Pidsea video you mentioned a memorial bench and the name Nurse Ryder. She was Sue Ryder a now famous humanitarian.Nowadays her name lives on through the 'Sue Ryder hospices'. Thanks again for this weird and wonderful series.

Another very brilliant informative video. Did realise how old the village was. Many thanks.

Hello to Vicki..
I think you mean Nicky haha :D
Nurse Rider was a local Nurse/midwife and no connection to Sue Ryder as an earlier comment stated.
