When I was still in trade school for Culinary Arts we had an MRE Chopped competition that was judged by active serving members of the military. It was very fun, and though our team wasn't the most creative, I still stand by our idea of mixing the MRE applesauce and raspberry drink powder.

Well done Emmy! I always found home cooks like my mom the MOST inspirational because unlike chefs who often have any ingredient at their disposal, home cooks always have to work with they have in their larder, pantry or fridge. It is a valuable and highly creative skill, i respect it a lot! ❤❤❤❤
I was surprised she didn’t split the bread, like she’s done so expertly in other MRE videos, which would have made the layers 1/2 as thick and might have gotten closer to what she’d hoped. But very inventive for a quick switch from primarily MRE ingredients. Encore! 👏

I've been asking and begging both Rie and Alexis (both from Tasty) to do an episode where they elevate a selection from the standard (but also current) MRE menu. And I think you just beat them to the punch! And on top of that, there is no way I would've thought the outcomes of each component (appetizer/salad, main, and dessert) came from an MRE. RLucas3000 My first childhood best friend and I used to make tape recordings on a small handheld tape recorder she had, back in the 80s. I still have a couple of the recordings... they crack me up. One of the things we would do is cook something basic, like cinnamon toast (we were young kids after all, so we didn’t know how to cook much yet), and imitate a Julia Child cooking show while cooking whatever it was we were making. One of us would be Julia, imitating her over the top voice, and the other would be guests with funny voices that would come on the cooking show to help (or royally screw things up and make a disaster haha). It was such a riot.

19:30 Well, if you are in the wild & know where to look, you too can find the greens to make a fresh salad. There are a bunch of possibilities in someone's backyard. You may find some of the leaves taste a bit more bitter than usual. But, properly selected greens will be healthy for you.

French and many euro food being fancy and many foods like Mexican and Asian especially Chinese food being low and dirty are very interesting conversations. Watch ugly delicious with David Chang. He talks about exactly that and how it relates to culture, subtle racism, and how msg being bad is a result of ignorance perpetuated by an idea that Chinese food is dirtier somehow.
It's sad really when you think about it. Because CHINESE FOOD ARE THE BEST. In fact, ALL ASIAN FOOD ARE FLAVORFUL. And French food are basically... snails.

I’m so glad that contractor thought that Tootsie Rolls in packaging needed their own bag. I love the military 😂. My favourite MRE was the maple sausage one solely because of the granola.

19:30 Well, if you are in the wild & know where to look, you too can find the greens to make a fresh salad. There are a bunch of possibilities in someone's backyard.
You may find some of the leaves taste a bit more bitter than usual. But, properly selected greens will be healthy for you.

French and many euro food being fancy and many foods like Mexican and Asian especially Chinese food being low and dirty are very interesting conversations. Watch ugly delicious with David Chang. He talks about exactly that and how it relates to culture, subtle racism, and how msg being bad is a result of ignorance perpetuated by an idea that Chinese food is dirtier somehow.
It's sad really when you think about it.

Any food can be served in a pompous and ridiculous "high class" manner to make it seem fancy. 5 courses, extremely tiny portions, smear a little bit of shit on the side of the plate and voila.

Emmy, that was spectacular - a work of genius. I was especially impressed with the tiramisu - though I personally would have left out the peanut butter because I hate nuts, and maybe would have used the jam instead to give it a black forest gateau vibe.
