What's the best pullup bar? (NOT sponsored)

  • Which doorway pullup bar is best?
Can I summarize in under 10 seconds?
Watch this exciting video to find out!
(spoiler: I can't. Also the video isn't that exciting.)
I think some of our community is a bit confused why I make so much longform content on TH-cam that isn't fitness-related.
Yeah it makes less money and gets fewer views, but whenever I have a fitness video idea, I'm usually pretty sure I can summarize it in 60 seconds or less.
Just trying to save you all time!
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend :)

This is just my opinion based on the many I've tried. If you like any of these and they work, power to you!
Heck, I'm just a guy that couldn't even summarize his own video in 10 seconds or less. So feel free to take this with a grain of salt.
You can buy any of these on Amazon if you want them. Brands don't matter as much there. Get one with good reviews 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.

in my opinion, this isn't a "fitness" channel. Your channel is more of an "all around life improvement channel" you focus on every aspect of self help, that takes most people quite a while of just life to figure out. heck, some people never figure it out.

Carpenter here, the over the frame are best for the structure, as there's often a gap in that spot between the jamb and the framing with the tension rod. An over the frame style came off on me doing horizontal pull-ups, so don't get to excited. Cheers!

While I've never tried one, I'm very skeptical of those pull up bars that hang on the doorframe.
Because, if I'm not mistaken, it seems to hang not on the doorframe itself, but on the strips of decorative molding that are nailed to the outside of the doorframe.

    • @Arcangel0723
      @Arcangel0723 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

if you look at the forces applied, most of it is going into friction between the wall and the bar above the door frame, and the pad that pushes into the door frame. Less is going directly down and out on the framing on top than you may initially think.

Great quick video! The bar I found, goes around the doorframe is amazing. Never had it 'slip off' unless I purposely went out of form. The pads are still there, but make a bit of a slight squeak when weight is applied, but are still fully intact and not showing any sign of wear other than a slight indent where it rests on the doorframe. The pads where you hang from are still holding up as well, although are no longer really spongey, but just a slightly soft surface. I use chalk, just to avoid the sweating palms, so maybe that helped the material from not breaking down, at all. So far anyways and it's been 5 years. I even use it to hang rings off of and it's never slipped off either, especially when doing bent rows at an angle.
It's definitely different than the ones you showed, as it has other handles flaring off it and is completely black. No idea who made it as it's been awhile since I bought it, but I think I got it from amazon. I think the weight limit on it was 300lbs too! It was the main reason I bought it, as I was a bit larger back then hehe

Good job keeping it compact :D
If you have good walls, I can also suggest wall mounting.
I've never had problems with the non-drill, non-press bars (just make sure its sitting correctly). But when my door frame changed from old and sturdy to new and cardboard, I feared damaging it and switched to wall mount.

  • @St.Gabriel21
    @St.Gabriel21 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The second pull up bar you showed I've been using for years haven't had it slip off. The down side is the four screws that hold it together do loosen over time. And the protective foam is wearing away against the frame.

  • @joelwallenius2877

I use the one with rubber grips that you tighten by screwing. By sheer luck though, I put it between two walls, not in a doorframe, because that's how my flat looks in this one particular place, lmao. It works amazingly well, because I can put it higher than a doorframe which is nice when you're 193 cm. Thanks for your videos they're among the best in the fitness category. Peace.

I used a pull up bar similar to the first one but without drilling a mount in. Worked fine except for one instance when it came off. But that was due to it loosening up. So all you have to do to keep safe is ensure you tighten the rod before every session or ensure you are not pulling in the direction which unscrews the bar.

I recommend the Stamina PT 1690, which I can even do belt squats on.
    I'm 67 years and 9-months old. I like doing pull-ups too.
I'm actually stronger as a senior citizen on Medicare than I was an active-duty United States Marine Corps 0331 M-60 Machine Gunner.
The reason why is because I focused on doing partial reps to failure, which is a modification of Zatsiorsky's repeated effort strength training method to failure, which is the best way to develop muscular endurance, size, mitochondria, and capillary density.
    Recently, I did 5 sets of 36, 36, 33, 30, and 30 reps on the same day.
The more mitochondria and capillary density you have, the more blood sugar, nutrients, oxygen, and blood flow you will have, which will increase muscular endurance and size.
Full range of motion exercises is better for developing absolute strength, but pull-ups to failure is a test of muscular endurance.

Is there a pull-up bar that won't damage your molding

I know this is an old video but does anyone know where he got the standalone low pull up bar he used in the video?

I agree, don't use the over-the-frame bars if you're over 90kg. I've used mine for years with no issues, my mate used it and immediately the frame started cracking.

i bought a 30 dollar pull up bar on amazon, the kind that dont use screws because im in an apartment. it has so many grip variations and my back, arms and chest look bigger and my girl loves it. if your door is able to and you dont mind falling a few times to wear it in then its a pretty good budget option

The second one work's really great, been using it for 2 years and it holds up really good, just don't use the hook that it came with. I replaced it with a concrete nail

I came here wanting to ask about pullup bars and your latest video is about them! So I was going to suggest a video idea or if its easier to just answer this question here I would greatly appreciated it. So I see in your pullup video, your outside pullup bar is pretty wide and it makes me think there are maneuvers I don't know about that would need a wider area? So without knowing what its possible I don't know how wide or tall to make the pullup bar. So what are the options? Is doing an iron cross on a outdoor pullup bar realistic? If so is it worth building it now even though I'm a beginner to calisthenics? Or should I make just something basic and upgrade later? If so whats basic? Also I'm going into concrete.

The ones that hook over the top of the doorframe also damage the frame, on both points of contact. Over time the foam that pads the handles gets mashed away and the metal core is what hits the door

A standalone pull up bar seems to be the better option for me, but because my door frames are old, I'm afraid. But at the same time, the stand alone looks like it will take up too much room that I don't have 🤔

I have the same one and I would never use it in a million for pull ups even in a new house. It's good for support if you're doing calf raises and also attaching a resistance band and you can even use it for push ups, so still a good tool.
