Hello! I recently fell in love with photography and picked up a Canon Rebel t7. I was going to take a Photography class but I found your channel and I have to say in just a few hours of videos I have learned so much! I find you answering my questions just by watching. Thank you so much for what you are doing for everyone who is interested in becoming a better photographer.
I know this is a very old video, but I have a question, please. FYI: 1. I have a Canon EOS T7, with a EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II and a EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III lenses. I don't have the "nifty fifty". 2. I understand it's a beginner level camera, but I've never had a "real" camera. 3. Primary photos will be for indoor events at our non-profit, which are mostly music or speaking events (so, some but not a lot of movement) in what I would call home-level lighting (we don't have spotlights). Question: What are the best settings on this camera for this type of photography? Finally, thank you so very much for your videos and your channel. The 426 page manual is daunting and seems to assume a certain level of prior knowledge that I don't yet possess - your videos are quickly filling that gap.
Not a Canon user, but still wathed the video - because the best part of videos is there is always something to learn (brand neutral) from them. A small tip to beginners to ICL photographers (I am one of them) - download the manual from your manufacturers website. It will be of immense help to you. People like me who are > 45 yo have a habit of reading the manuals before using any gadget (as in the old days, nothing was 'obvious'). But it has its advantages even today - I am quite sure you will find features even in your entry level camera which is not covered in any videos / tutorials on TH-cam / web which is extremely useful for you (I found quite a few for my D5600 :-) ). And keep the pdf in your mobile / Tablet (whichever you always carry).
Hello Paul, new subscriber here. I just watched this video and you are one of the best if not the best informed photography experts on here. I am retired and on a very strict budget. I just received today the Canon t2i and your video about it really helped me out tremendously. Thank you for making extremely informative videos. I will be following your channel.
All of your videos are great. I'm improving slowly but surely. All of the acronyms are hard to remember. I wish there was a chart to refer too. A problem I have is my camera (T7) hates my computer (a Chromebook). It likes my old Dell much better. Life is short and there is so much to learn. Thank you for all your help.
Im learning alot from ur videos Sir and i am really excited to buy a camera coz im planning to be a freelance photographer in Philippines.thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.God bless you
Great video. I’ve watched many of your other helpful videos and didn’t think I would get as much out of this one. Wrong - I liked how you pointed to a few great tips and to the other video for more info. Also, minor thing - video has a blank box that pops up at 14:44.
Another great video. Thanks for doing these. The more I learn the more I upgrade my gear. Have gone from T2i to T7i to 90D and now have a R6 on the way. Have done the same with lenses. Probably will have questions when the R6 gets here.
Thanks, Paul! Great video. I have been a Canon fan since my first FTb back in the '70s. I have gone through the F-1, A-1, three EOS Rebels (one film and two DSLRs) and now on a M50. I have always been pleased. Thanks for the answers to these questions.
Thanks Paul..i have just purchased a new Canon 2000d and i have just found your channel and watched your video...im a beginner and its super helpful...Learned a lot from 1st video...keep the good work up.
Paul, your content is awesome. I love how much help you provide to us that are just getting started. I bought a 760d(t6s) 3months ago with the 18-55 kit lens. Since then I bought thre nifty 50 new but I just recently bought the tamron 28-75 f2.8 and the tamron 18-200 used for 100 usd for both. I was very happy to find them and I know they aren't GREAT lenses but I don't do this professionally. Thanks for the content man, you're awesome
Hello Paul. I found your videos very useful and informative. Using the settings you suggested, I photographed the full moon with a very nice result. I recently bought a Canon 800D with the kit lens. I took some shaked photos, and I dont know if the lens stabilizer is working. I wanted to know if I could figure it out .
Hi Paul, greetings from the old country. Even though I'm not a Canon user lots of the info was useful to me too, so something of a bonus. As ever, keep up the good work, as the biggest improvement to be made to to any camera is the thing behind the viewfinder .. well it is at least for me.
I have 2 canon cameras a 70d and a 90d, both great cameras also a canon xf605, professional camcorder, ive never used any other make only canon i grew up using canon equipment and i love them ,pretty easy to operate 😊.😊
Hi Paul I am impressed by yr videos especially on canon. I hv bn using 70d for d last 6 years, but I am not able to set my minimum shutter speed of 60 or 100 in low light photography as has been easily done in 80d or 90d ceras. Can u suggest me how this problem could be solved. Appreciate early response.
Thank you for the video. As an enthusiast; I started photography with Canon DSLRs in 2009 and still using them happily. Don’t feel obligated to buy the “latest”. Shoot landscape, wildlife and occasional portraiture for my pleasure. I’m using 5D Classic, 5DII, 7D, 70D and 40D. A used 1D Mark IV might soon be added to my arsenal. My lenses are EF 50mm f/1.8 STM, EF 17-40mm f/4L, EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM, EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II and EF 400mm f/5.6L. Almost regularly use Canon extenders with the 2.8 tele lenses. Don’t nourish high impression on third party glasses. My walk-around lenses are; EF 28-135mm for FF and EF-S 18-135mm for APS-C bodies. My question; is AF Microadjustment that badly necessary for my lenses? I haven’t done this for any of them. However, don’t notice any mention worthy deviation in properly focused images. Felicitations for the good work. Please keep it up.
Nice tips and so helpful. Have an even older Rebel 350D and budget is limited. Best advice so far is to go for the nifty 50 and wondering whether I should try to find the used 1.4 or 1.8 and what the difference really is. Thanks Paul!!
Hi Paul, I have a few Canons, the one I love to use still to this day, is my1st camera Canon50d I bought 2008, just love it on this semi pro Camera body I'm told, you can use in white balance Kelvin (K), over the years I found 5000 K works for me, I used the Nifty 50 it is a beautiful lens, which I always take on holidays and family gatherings & like you say a good telephoto, which I've used on sports days, you give good advice.
Great video Paul...sorry for late question..I have a canon 250d and I can't find how to put histogram up on it so I hope you can help me out many thanks .
Lots of great info on a good many subjects. One note about WB: when shooting in RAW, it can be good to have the WB set in one setting. When you go to adjust several photos, you can make the one adjustment on WB correction and you don't have to worry about the WB jumping around as if it was set on auto. I always shoot RAW and jpeg, and I use a WhiBal card for perfect WB.
For the Northern lights I would suggest a shutter speed of around 5 - 10 seconds, a wide aperture (low f number) and adjust the ISO accordingly, this may mean an increase to around 1000 - 2000 depending on condition and composition. To help you manually focus in the dark try using your cameras digital zoom (works in Live View). Hope that helps.
Glad I came across your video. Very informative indeed. But I wonder if you truly can answer my doubt of a question… I want to shoot stars using my newly bought canon 6d ii. I have a sturdy tripod, canon 40mm f2.8 lens, a ‘’nifty fifty’’ 50mm 1.8 for portraits, a 24-70mm f2.8 L mark ii for walk abouts, a 24-105 f4 L lens also for walk abouts and finally a 70-200mm f4 L for concert shoots but my friends are saying non of these lens will give me good results with shooting stars. So I borrowed a 11.22mm f3.5-5.6 lens but am not sure what f stop to use, iso and speed would be ideal. I checked your videos, all informative as well, but have i missed your video on how to shoot stars? Any advice would be more than helpful. I used to watch your videos when I used a canon 70d three years ago.
Hello Paul. I am heading to Alaska for 6 days in Denali and then 7 days cruise down to Vancouver.I am new to photography and have a canon T7 and really could benefit from your knowledge. With landscape and hopefully some closer shots. Question is which lens should I have on hand as well as any filters ? Just recently started watching your videos and live the information but I am still trying to understand what I am doing when it comes to photography.
Great videos Paul, just wondering what you thoughts are with respect to camera servicing? Should you take your camera into a service centre for check up say every few years?
i have a canon with a nifty 50mm lense my problem is in auto focus the green dot in viewfinder always blinking it might be the focus problem what should i do im a newbie in photography i just want to learn thank you i subscribe to you to learn more tips
Hi Paul .. .couple of years late with this one, but I wonder if you have an opinion about the EF adaptor and using EF lenses on an RF body? I have two lenses, a 50mm and 24-105 and am thinking of adding a third .. perhaps the zoom you mention in this video .. but as a purely leisure photographer I'm not keen to shell out hundreds of pounds for RF lenses if I can avoid it. The camera was bought as a gift, so I didn't get the option of choosing the body ... is the EF adaptor a good option for reducing lens costs or is the compatability between EF lenses and RF body not worth the cost? .. Thanks, Mike
Hi Paul great videos as always, just a quick question for you. A friend has asked me to go up in his light aircraft with him to take photos of his property, I'm a little confused as to what would be the best type of lens to use. I have a prime 50mm, 18-35mm, 18-200mm & a 100-400mm. Can you please advise me.
Wow what a great opportunity. In terms of flexibility the 18-200mm would be a good choice because it covers such a wide focal range, however depending on how high you might be the 100-400mm might be better because you will be able to "zoom-in" more on the specific property (twice as much as the 18-200mm. Hope that helps, enjoy the flight! Paul.
Hi Paul, a great video again. I have a question, not necessary Canon related but in one of your photo editing videos you mentioned added vignetting to the finished photo, in many of the lens reviews I've watched they have been critical of lens vignetting, so is it just "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Interested in your thoughts Paul. Keep up the good work mate.
on the canon 1500d t7 camera, in the program mode, what is best image quality mode to use for routine photos. I will be traveling to Australia next month and I want to capture great photos.
Hello sir. Hope you re doing fine. Thanks for the great content on TH-cam. I appreciate. May i ask you a question please? What intervalometer would you recommend for a eos 850d? It has a build time laps feature that isn't suitable enough for night time laps. Therefore I'm looking for an intervalometer. Thank you
Just wondering if the 55 to 250mm lens is a good lense for things like the moon . I also have a 24mm 1.8 would that work for milky way photos or am I way off on having the right lenses for this kind of photography.
I have your Canon PC-1680. I love this cam for posting my items to my eBay store. I take CU macro using screw on lenses w/filters & a ring light. I even got a second off eBay practically brand new as a back-up. But now i'm sponsored for fishing & i need a cam that can accept a mic for my reviews out in the field. I can't find anything that can fit my set-up. I'd like to use what i already have since Covid has hit my business hard. Is their an inexpensive way for me to attach an external mic? Thanks:)
Hi Paul, I have a canon 800D which I bought as an entry level wildlife camera, along with the 18-55mm kit lens, a Tamron 75-300mm and a sigma 150-600mm . I photograph Deer , Badgers, Foxes, birds etc. I’ve got to the stage now where I’m pretty competent but want to upgrade my camera. I can never get a definitive answer and I just get confused. So, what camera would you recommend for me to upgrade to? I have a budget of around £1500. I want to stay on DSLR , but I’m not averse to looking at mirrorless . And I’m not so bothered about videos, but I do do them now and again, and maybe I might do more of that at some stage. Any input would be most welcome, as you talk “normal” speak and not sales speech lol. Many thanks in advance. Keep up the good work. Jim. 👍
Hi Paul! I have a question too about my canon Eos 2000d: I want to transfer the pictures I took there to my pc through a usb cable. The package itself did not include any usb cable, so I used one that I already had before buying the camera and it fits. The problem is that nothing shows on the screen of my computer when I connect it with the camera through the cable. What can I do?
Hi Paul: I have Canon EOS Rebel XTI. It is no longer made and neither are the batteries. Onlyl 3rd party batteries are available. Can you please recommend a good replacement battery for my camera? Thank you. Chuck Left coast USA
Hello Paul, sometimes when attempting to take a picture, the word "Bulb" appears in the shutter speed box on my screen, any ideas? Many thanks. P.S. Canon camera.
HELP!!!!! Please, Paul -- Attempting to follow your how-to-macro tutorials, using my Canon 7D Mark II with "live view", but can only aquire "live view" when the "live view or video" switch is in the "video" position. When I put the switch in the "live view" position, the LCD displays my "settings". I don't want to shoot video, only stills. BTW - I've my nifty-fifty lens and the Kenko tubes in the "MF" position, and my camera's operating mode in "M" manual. I'm very frustrated - please advise, thanks!
😂I have a canon t7. When taking pictures of a Christmas party. I took several pictures. When I took card it only had about half the shots. The only thing I can think of is the camera has not in focus. Could that be the problem? It was in doors with gas powered lights. Camera is set to auto. Help!
I have a T7. I am only able to get 3 exposures when I do bracketing. Is there a way to get more exposures with T7? I searched in many forums online but no answer.
I am still watching the video, and I have the Canon Rebel t7. I've been trying to get moon shots like you posted at the beginning of the video. I cant figure out the ISO and aperature. Can you help with that to lead me in the right direction.

@@photogenius Looks like my eyes are to bad to do that adjustment. Will have to focus using the view screen and zoom in on the back.
Thanks Paul, your videos are always a great help!!
Great video! I glad I found you! Quick question m50 vs t7?

I want to shoot stars using my newly bought canon 6d ii.

Thank for all the great info. I had another question if you can please answer.. is there a way to bypass the 30min per clip video recording limit?
What's the best function setting to get the very best General portrait people shots and scenery shots for a Canon Gx7 Markiii?
Hi Paul great videos as always, just a quick question for you. A friend has asked me to go up in his light aircraft with him to take photos of his property, I'm a little confused as to what would be the best type of lens to use.

Hi iam upgrading from my cannon T3i I like landscape photography wot do u recommend Paul?
Can you do a video on mobile apps for photo editing . is there an app for bracketed photos??
on the canon 1500d t7 camera, in the program mode, what is best image quality mode to use for routine photos. I will be traveling to Australia next month and I want to capture great photos.
Would it be smarter to buy a mirrorless camera, since that's the future? That way I don't have to replace expensive lenses when I eventually switch.

What is the best setting for sport like rugby soccer?
Hi Paul, on the Canon Rebel T7 is the live view shooting button only for shooting in the movie mode?
I have your Canon PC-1680. I love this cam for posting my items to my eBay store. I take CU macro using screw on lenses w/filters & a ring light. I even got a second off eBay practically brand new as a back-up. But now i'm sponsored for fishing & i need a cam that can accept a mic for my reviews out in the field. I can't find anything that can fit my set-up. I'd like to use what i already have since Covid has hit my business hard. Is their an inexpensive way for me to attach an external mic? Thanks:)
Loved the video 🥰

Hello Sir, greetings. I have a Q. Can you please tell me about Canon t5 1200 D? Is it a good camera or what. Thanks..
Please guide us as to how to shoot in Snow .
Jim. 👍
What is wrong with the camera you have now?

Help!
Should my canon T1i be upgraded?
I have a T7. I am only able to get 3 exposures when I do bracketing. Is there a way to get more exposures with T7? I searched in many forums online but no answer.
I would be interested in his answer on this as well.
