    Welcome to the Letterman TH-cam Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. The language may strike you as quaint & flowery, the clothing comically lacey & ornate - but that’s how things were back in this colorful and now bygone era.

      Bea Arthur was loud when I came into contact with her. I was at the Maryland Crab House in Santa Monica for my birthday, and they were bringing out a dessert for me and starting to sing happy birthday when she said loudly, "No. No. No." I turned around to see what man was wrecking my birthday, and it was her. I think she was embarrassed. I wonder when her birthday was. I'll have to look it up. Nope, not even close. Maybe someone in her party had a birthday, and she didn't want to attract attention. • @MMT58
      @MMT58 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      A producer said that Bea didn’t like Betty because of the way she treated Estelle. Estelle suffered from stage fright, and increasing difficulty remembering her lines. Betty was in the habit of talking to the audience between takes, and when Estelle flubbed or forgot a line, Betty held her thumb and index finger up to her mouth, indicating that Estelle had been drinking - and getting a big laugh.
      Bea, who was very close to Estelle, was furious at Betty’s behaviour, and called her the ‘C’ word. Turns out that Estelle had early stage dementia.

    Betty White was trans generational! I remember her from the MTM show, watching with mom on the one TV we had. She is so funny and sweet. Dave was looking for some dirt on Bea Aurther and Bettie would not budge. (Secretly Bea was an empathetic and sweet soul) Gave nothing but sweet praise. I am sure Rue said they'd go for lunch together and if Betty wasn't going Bea didn't want to go, they were friends, they were very different people and had very different ways of working - I think Betty was the first female talk show host? She was used to engaging with the audience and making cracks between takes etc, Bea was from theatre & didn't interact with the live audience. So they had very different ways of working, Betty & Rue played word games on set between takes etc...but one of the big things that rubbed Be wrong was Estelle was having memory issues and HATED filming days, she'd often have her lines written on props etc, and one day she fluffed a line and Betty made some crack to the audience implying Estelle had been drinking or something, lighthearted banter on her end, but Rue and Bea were protective of Estelle, particularly cos she had this anxiety anyway and was having health issues, so to have Betty making the audience laugh at their colleague when she was anxious and vulnerable was something Bea really took to heart. Folk like to right it off as 'Betty was too fun, Betty was America's sweetheart and Bea was a sourfaced meanie' but really, they had a long working relationship & were very different people, they all respected each other & loved each other....didn't mean they always liked each other. Working with folk very different from you, who do things you don't like or agree with for the best part of the decade, it's gonna be tough.

But at least according to Rue, they were in fact really good friends - kind of in an “opposites attract the way they spat” way. Rue said the two of them would bicker all day long but they also would never go to lunch without each other, sat together between shoots, and hated the media narrative that they secretly disliked one another.

    It’s great how Betty White handled that question because she was put on the spot and she told the truth he had in such a way that at least David thought she was joking, but she wasn’t! Apparently, Arthur was very envious of her and was difficult with her

    If anyone remembers the episode of GG where Rose wants to be frozen when she dies. And one of her lines is "what happens when there is only one of us left?" And of course she was the final one of the ladies to pass. I have seen it 100 times before but after Betty White passed it hit hard. Brought a tear to my eye...RIP all the Golden Girls xo

    I grew up to my grandma watching the golden girls and though I thought it was a bit boring since it wasn't a cartoon and I couldn't understand a lot of what was happening I still remember watching it with her. 3 years ago me and my grandma watched the full series together, it took a month to complete it. I'm 40 years old now and my grandma is 83 years old. I know my grandma isn't going to be around forever so I'm thankful for the memories the golden girls have to me and my grandma. It's also shocking how ahead of us time that show was. They weren't always politically correct by today's standards but they brought to light many issues that weren't really talked about back then. When my kids are older and at an age they'll be interested in a show like that if love to watch it with them. It'll be nice to discuss with them how the world was back then, what's all changed since that time and what still needs work. I hope when I reach my golden years I can have friends like that by my side

    I just wish Betty would not have entertain this question. Now, fans have intervened and made it as if there was a feud between her and Bea. Many other actors from Carroll O’Connor to Jane Stapleton to Esther Rolle have said wonderful things about Bea Arthur-and now fans have taken this so-called “feud” and made it bigger than what it probably was. Bea was an introverted, serious person, whereas Betty was more lively and bubbly. Two different personalities, so of course they’d clash a bit, but I doubt it was as serious as fans took Betty’s words to mean.
    Not to mention, Bea Arthur was a World War II US Marine veteran. So put some respect on Ms. Arthur’s name and legacy that was paramount to hit shows like Maude, The Jefferson’s, All in the Family, Good Times, The Golden Girls, and The Golden Palace, just to name a few.

      @@robinkulbayRumors are one thing but fans have made it seem as though the rumor is absolute truth and spread this nasty narrative against Arthur. Until we hear it from Bea Arthur’s mouth which we won’t due to her passing away, it will only be a senseless rumor that fans should stop perpetuating. You only have one side of the story and Arthur is not here to give her side, defend herself against it or even entertain the foolishness.
