    I'm impressed they actually continued the D-line. And I would love to make Jaguar happy. Also a great idea for other brands to recreate some of their old legends.

    In 1967 at an SCCA regional race in Vidalia, GA, Bobby Rahal’s uncle, Ed Rahal, drove his D to second place finishes behind a Shelby 350 GT. Seeing that car in a real race was one of the highlights of my life.

      I love cars, I was born in the industrial Midlands of England in 1942 where Jaguars were made, they are in my blood and I am immensely proud to know where I came from.
      But to say that seeing one of these cars is the HIGHLIGHT OF MY LIFE is LUDICROUS.
      In your case IF it is true then you must have led a very hollow and sad life.
      Oh I should say that I live in the USA and have done since 1970, my wife is also English and we and our family are about as close to our families in England as it is possible to be, we travel back and forth frequently.

    The Jaguar D and E types were engineering sculptures. On the American front, the Ford GT40 was the one. Greetings from a Coventry kid living in the USA. Vintage/Retro body designs had it all embracing art deco features.

      Dear boy- don’t you know the original GT40 was built in Langley Bucks near Slough UK at the Ford Transit van assembly plan? Not a US car at all. I know because I lived there and saw them drive the GT40s on the the recently constructed M4 in 1965-68 timeframe. I now live in Los Angeles but remember also the Shelby Cobra cars were UK chassis based with big old Ford blocks installed

      Watch the series here on TH-cam called "building the legend" its neville's "workshop copy" using malcom sayers original drawings, although its not really drawings more like 3d vector notes, and the history behind engine number 2 of the xj13.

    • @johntechwriter
      @johntechwriter 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've wondered about that and probably they would be uniquely challenged by the 13's 12-cylinder mid-mounted engine. They have too much integrity to swap in their standard inline six. But they are making a fortune from these restos and providing a halo effect to their current line. I agree the 13 was the prettiest Jag ever, and that's saying something. Because of that, and that they are running out of classic models, I think in time they will relent and build a few, priced in the millions.

    • @psk1w1
      @psk1w1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johntechwriter Making the twin-cam heads for the XJ13 engine would be problematic. Jaguar only made a tiny number of the dohc V12, perhaps 3. It has twin cams per bank, with the inlet tracts down the centre-line of the cams.
      There are suggestions that Jaguar have a spare engine for the XJ13. Another was found in Germany and sold on Ebay. It was bought by Neville Swayles who had an exacting replica of the XJ13 made, with massive input by Jaguar staff who designed and developed the original car. A replica engine was made in the US by Fox Engineering for Scott Pinski's car, no idea if it's an accurate copy or a look-alike only.

    • @JohnRoberts-yh3ep
      @JohnRoberts-yh3ep 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's because the D-Type was never a road car. It was a Sport Racing car built specifically for races like Le Mans. Although they were registered for the road and driven to the track, they were racing cars and completely unsuited to road use. The road version was the XKSS, and Jaguar have already built some of those in 2017. If you really wanted to drive a modern D-type on the road, you could put it through the SVA test exactly like any other special.

      Tata/JaguarLandRover are building them in Coventry UK at the heritage centre, they have quite a big workforce there building retro cars for the super rich including restored E types. Not great for all the specialists out there that have been keeping the marque alive IMO

    • @JohnRoberts-yh3ep
      @JohnRoberts-yh3ep 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Oliver Marks It will have literally zero impact on 'all the specialists out there that have been keeping the marque alive', because Jaguar are only building 25 of them, along with the 9 XKSSs they made last year. A 'real' D-type is worth over two million pounds, so any specialist capable of handling that caliber of work is not going to be concerned by a few new cars appearing on the scene - which won't require any significant maintenance work anyway. The new cars will either be raced, in which case the owner will already have an arrangement with a suitable specialist, or sit in a thermostatically controlled garage forever.
      While the JLR Classic Works team of 120 people seems large compared with your average garage in a railway arch, it's a tiny percentage of the JLR workforce. The majority of the work done at the facility is maintenance and restoration of customer's classic Jaguars and Land Rovers. The team building the Continuation cars is just a handful of people within the Classic Works team. Jaguar made the cars in the first place, so they have every right to run a facility restoring and maintaining them. It's also worth remembering that JLR are training people in skills which have almost completely been lost.
