I don't agree entirely. You have to separate technical ability from knowledge and understanding of the game. Both are important and you can't be great without one or the other. I honestly don't know this guy, seeing him for the first time so I'm not commenting on him, but rather on your argument.

Love how far Pro has come! Watched AND1 so much as a kid and he came to be one of my favs at one point my fav to watch, really nice to see how successful he’s become, how anyone could think he’s not a high level player is crazy, this guy has been playing for so long, AND1 started 20 years ago for him, he played well before that, and can still more than keep up with Pros much younger.

It comes down to SIZE and athleticism. If you’re going to be 5’10 in the NBA you have to be crazy athletic, every NBA player at that height or below in history was crazy athletic. His skill and IQ are NBA level but doesnt matter when the average player is damn near a whole foot taller than you at 6’6 and likely more athletic.

For sure. I’m not saying that he’s making more than them. But many 9th and 10th men only play for a couple years. I think the league minimum for a 2 year contract is like 1.5 million a year. Look, that’s 3 million, minus half for taxes let’s say. So you made 1.5 mil in 2 years. You can put that money to work for you and get a decent job with your connections. I’m not sure how much a good youtuber makes. I looked up his net worth and it says he’s worth 2.2 million. So he’s not doing too badly.
@@roems6396 That's a pretty good net worth not gonna lie, but as long as you invest your money properly (just index funds even, (nothing crazy), a 20 year old making 3 mil for 2 years should beat him out on compound interest alone. Of course, that's assuming they also get a different job and don't spend money on stupid shit. He’s got that fire inside him. That burning desire. I know that feeling. He knows deep down inside he can dominate and that’s why he’s where he’s at, and still crushing it at his age.
There’s a mental aspect to athleticism and he’s got that on lock. That’s an important factor not many talk about. He truly loves the game for the game.
The reason he wasn’t in NBA was the way his path unfolded. In an alternate universe if he had met a specific person at the right time things would be different. Who cares because this path is way more fun and entertaining.
Just because he doesn’t play in the nba, doesn’t mean that he’s trash by ANY means.
By NBA standards he is. Lets be honest here. Almost any rookie would be more effective in a 5 on 5 game.

I played hockey at D1 level and maybe could have played minor league but I realize there is no way in hell at 5'9 and 150 lb I would make it in the NHL with my skill level. Instead of being humble he's like insulting people for making valid criticism and bragging and making multiple videos on excuses for why he didn't make it. It's delusional and juvenile.
This is what the Professor was meant to do and that is his gift. I'm glad he does not play for the NBA, and I'm glad he entertains us with his many awesome videos.

I’m a surfer. Don’t watch or care about anything mainstream, I’m as alternative as it gets. I’m also 50. And I’ve watched a handful of professor videos. He makes better content than an NBA game. Simple as that.

to be fair, some of the moves he does for entertainment are carries. When you see that too much, people assume that he relies on those illegal moves to get buckets. Which is why these people wouldn't think he'd get close to make the nba.

He seems pretty straight up to me. Long story short, he's not in the NBA because when the time came, the NBA didn't call. It's pretty simple. Is he great? Hell yeah. There are a lot a great singers without a record deal, while there are a lot of terrible singers with one. He at least has capitalized on his talent and hard work and found a way to succeed.
He’s slightly undersized and not quite as athletic as most small guards are. He definitely has the skills to be in the league though

Your career as you lived it was better for you than the NBA or even college basketball was. You become an icon that you never could have been in the NBA. You're an icon when I was a senior in high school in 03-04. I was on my high school team and lots of guys were trying the moves on those tapes. I played two years of JuCo and AND1 mix tape tour was still the biggest thing. I'm 37 now and I still hoop with the younger guys, but it is hard. My knees, hips, and back hurt (still in shape, just that age catching up). So watching you still play basketball is awesome since you must be around 40 now.

NBA is different skill sets. Can he rebound, defend, athletism, shoot contested (by pros), passing, court vision, fadeaway, finish at the rim? there are sooo many other skillsets. He is better than everyone with the handles and is nice with the shot but there are many other skills needed to make the league.

I met this guy about 15 years ago in Bulgaria. He was way less famous and yet - respectful, gave me an interview when I wanted, where I wanted, answered as many questions as I asked - all in all, his attitude was great. I could easily see he had the right approach in not only being entertaining on the court, but promoting himself and what he does. For some reason the TH-cam algorithm decided to suggest his channel. I'm not surprised he has millions of subscriptions and own merch line. Apparently he kept on working. Good for him.

Honestly, this guy is in a much better position than most NBA players. He's not judged on statistics or wins but rather on technique and can have an off day with far less risk of his whole (current) career being ripped out from under him. I have a feeling there are a slew of current NBA players who aren't the "LeBrons" or "Durants" who would love to have a situation like this guy has.

Went thru the same thing my entire life, I spent half my life in prison so it turned into basketball camp, every time I transferred I’d get to a new compound and I began to look forward to the first rec where unless someone had seen me already, I’m the last one picked or left on the sideline altogether. I made it a point to bring the A game which ain’t professor level, but I can get the job done and run a team to a dub

Hands down everyone hating for the simple reason your skills are next level + the entertainment factor is off the charts ... and I think if you did play in the nba u would have been big no doubt but the fact u have got this big with out being in the nba is amazing + a lot harder going the route u did . NBA players are the best in the world. Being consistent against the best defense in the world. Tons of good street players out there, the professor is one of them. To recognize a person's talent level isn't hating on them. Muggsy Boguesg, Earl Boykins, and Spud Webb were all shorter than the professor, but they became professional NBA players because at that heigth they could consistently play well against the best defense anywhere, anytime. Champion Isaiah Thomas was 5.9, today there's about 27 players in the NBA 6ft and under. The Professor gets props for making close to the NBA.

Yes, there are guys that short who make the league, but at that height you have to be otherworldly quick (and an amazing shooter). He's just not on that level.
He averaged 4.5 Points, .8 Rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 21 minutes per game in the CBA. Those numbers are FINE, but they're not going to move the needle for NBA teams looking for a cheap backup point guard.

Again, those a real stats; he was a legitimately good point guard at his peak, the sort of numbers you'd expect from an elite NCAA player in that league. But it's not numbers that would make an NBA team let him run their second unit in spite of the obvious defensive liabilities.
Exactly. For example, Campazzo is a dominant Euroleague player who is light years ahead of Prof in every aspect of the game. He still couldn't buy a bucket or get minutes in the NBA. If you're below 6'3" in today's NBA, you better have Iverson level athleticism.

Or do you mean afterward where he said he went through multiple community college programs and didn't barely play at all? He outlined where his career went *instead* of going to the NBA because the option wasn't there to go play in college or the NBA. It kinda makes sense though. A friend of mine too, one of the best ballers I have ever seen, but he's a 5'11' white dude who can't dunk. There's not a team outside of high school that could care any percentage about his abilities to play basketball. In my opinion, The Professor did what he had to do and he probably knew the options and that's why he took what came instead of the traditional baller route. Kudos to him.
the Professor's greatness is based upon how he uses basketball to encourage young ppl to be excellent, disciplined, hard working, and moral overall. that makes him greater than virtually any other basketball player - professional or otherwise.
What I like most about him is that he's humble. It's amazing that he's damn near 40 but looks like he's 20. He probably still gets carded.

truly respect the Professor. the truth about why he's not in the NBA is because he's 5'10" - at that height you have to be freakishly athletic. the guys that make the NBA under 6 foot are either a blur on the court, have +40 inch vertical jumps, are ridiculously strong, or all of the above.

This is why I love The Professor, he's a genuine, caring, giving, honest, no bullshit, man. Forget the talent he has; Finding someone in this life that has all of those qualities, and willingly gives back to the communities that are the most neglected in this world says volumes to The Professor's character. He was a decent back-up guard back then. Former NBA bench players actually competed in the CBA. You saw the talent gap between the three leagues.

Why do these people hate on him so much? So what he didn't make the NBA. He is an ENTERTAINER and he is very comfortable doing what he does. He makes more money than probably every person that is criticizing him. He may be making more money than a good number of NBA players AND he is using his platform to do some good things for others. What is incredible about the Professor, is that in spite of that negative comments he gets, he absolutely turns them around into a positive response. I'll even do one better, I would say that if the professor was a stock broker, he would be one of the best and most positive stock brokers around. He is one of those people in life who brings sunshine to a rainy day, despite everyone saying it's so cloudy. He radiates goodness in what he does. I def admire the man for what he does and says. If people really paid attention, they would see he is actually humble. NBA or not, he is only spreading the love of basketball to every one at every level - nothing more, nothing less.
In the NBA, what counts is efficiency. Those guys optimize their every move with one goal: sinking that basket. Professor plays a different game. He's all about the show. Obviously a good ball player, but an entertainer first and an athlete second. That's not to say he's not a great athlete. Just think it's unfair to base how you think he'd fare in the NBA by what you see in these videos. He's playing a completely different game in here. That's my view at least. Extremely skilled ball player who made things work his own way. Love the content, respect you as an athlete and as a person. Keep it up. Much love from the Netherlands.

The way I see it is that basketball is an entertaining sport/game that draws in a lot of viewers, and the more entertaining it is it makes watching more fun for the spectators.
