Thank you for the video this save my cable and money. I used pb blaster than power steering fluid at 100 psi and now like new. I hope this will last 1 year or two 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Did this on a new to me ‘98 Bayliner Capri 1954, maiden voyage last week had my arms hurtin trying to steer right, left was a breeze. After 3 minutes of pressurized penetrating oil, it was dripping out of the steering gears. Let it sit a half hour, and it’s free wheeling like I never imagined!!! Thanks for the video, saved me time and money!
Great video, very succinct and I even enjoyed the background music. This technique also works great for an outboard, where the problem is often jammed up gunk inside the steering tube. Just attach the hose to the nipple on the steering tube and follow the same technique.
My steering was tight as all hell so I gave this a try before spending the $$ on a new cable and it worked wonders! I let mine sit about 30 minutes at 100 PSI and it’s like butter now. Thanks for the video my man!

This saved my boat! My cable was so stiff I thought I didn't have power steering. I used WD40 and it worked magic. Before I couldn't move the outdrive very easily by pushing it. I can easily move it back and forth now. Pro tip make sure you have something on the other end to catch the excess lol.

Thanks for sharing this! My steering is now free and it only cost me about 30$ for the hose, fittings and lube. Took me about an hour to get the job done. Much cheaper than replacing the whole cable. Thanks again!👌🏻😁

Just did the fix and man does it work great!!! Someone suggested using Assembly Lube for the lubrication. I tried it but it was too thick to be pushed into the line so i diluted it in the tube with some spray PB Blaster and within 30 seconds, the wheel could be turned with one finger. Amazing!! You saved me a lot of downtime by not having to leave my boat at the dealer plus the high cost of labor to replace the cable. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thanks for the sharing your experience. I was about to order a new column since I had already cleaned out the barrel with no success. I went ahead and used a small piece of thick rubber hose I had and about 30 psi of penetrating oil. I did see gunk come out and turned wheel several times. Got easier and easier and went further as more gunk came out. I'm hopeful this lasts a good bit. Again, many thanks.

I just did this on my 1996 Sea Ray With a 7.4L Bravo 3. This Worked great! The exposed portion of my cable was literally sticky like glue. Also, The Bravo 3's take a 1" ID Pipe to fit around the housing. You can't actually move the steering with the power assist. The Arm gets in the way. I just hooked mine up to 60PSI and let it sit overnight. Came in from work the next day and the PB blaster poured out just like yours did. I Removed the Pipe and worked the steering. In 5 minutes it was free. I have a few other things to Rehab the boat (which I recently purchased,), now I can get a couple more seasons out of steering cable and spend the $$ on something else. I Spent around $30 and a couple of hours. Good Stuff!

@@dannyboi520 I do have a few. do not attempt to move the steering cable once you hook everything up and pressurize it as shown in the video. At least on mine (bravo 3) the power assist bracket got in the way. when I moved it to work the cable it blew off. (imagine a soft lubricating mist... violently going everywhere. ) Place rags under both ends on at the helm and stern. let pressure do the work, I let mine sit for about 30 hours. remove your piping and work the cable. Lubricant will be forced out of the helm end for quite a while after.
I also put a sharpie mark to indicate the direction of the hole in the clevis pin for the locking clip replacement. I didn't have that much room in my boat and had to reinstall it blindly. Good Luck!

@@dannyboi520 mine was. I turned the steering wheel all the way left I think to put it in a good spot. It would help to have another person to wiggle the wheel to get the Clevis pin out.

How long is this going to work for? Isn’t the stiff Arm-strong steering the result of a worn cable that needs to be replaced or is it just dried out? Seems too good to be true.

I did mine last week but went from the other end. Shoved alot of lubricant down the cable, but it did not help at all, nothing emitted from the lower end. Should I reverse it and try the other way?
For the love of me I cant get the pin out that holds the cable. Took out the cotter pin and hit it with pb blaster and it just won’t budge. Am I missing something? In the video you just push it with your thumb…is there a trick?

Ok, why this happens. Rack steering with severe bend at helm. Inner movable cable cuts thru plastic liner and then you have contact with outer “lay” wires and in moist
“Boat” environment it rusts and gets bound. You “cure” a symptom but the cause is still there. All I’m saying is use your head, if that cable snaps at speed…….
Boat owner: "So what did you have to do to fix it?"
Mechanic: "Oh, man... it was a JOB!. I had to completely remove the entire cable and hardware and replace it with new parts. I was on my back and knees for 10 hours! That'll be $1,250 for labor + $500 for parts... plus tax."

I'm going to give this a shot. Hopefully today if I have all the parts here. Did you leave the compressor plugged in to maintain pressure in the line if it leaked or did you find there was enough in the tank?

@@friendnfamily9053 It worked! I used transmission oil and a homemade contraption and now the steering is working like new. Used 90 psi with poly pipe and garden hose and it held up well. 300 bucks saved. Thanks.

Hi, I put some in before and also sprayed some more in at 1:12 minute.
Ive got a hose on mine with pb blast in it and 100psi. No change so far. Did you losen the 4 bolts under the wheel at the helm? The air pressure seems to remain constant and I turned the wheel until I felt like I was just putting unnessicary wear on the gear. Ill let it sit and Im crossing my fingers. Mine was a little different, where you attatched your hose over the threads I had to attach those threads to the pipe the cable slides through and then put my hose on the end of that pipe because there was a colar in the way.. Hoping its the same thing. But good video! Hey just heard the compressor kick on maybe thats a good sign!

How did you avoid making a massive mess when you took the hose full of WD-40 off of the steering cable when you were done?
Hi, I placed a pan to catch most of the oil made to the steering. I emptied most of the fluid before disconnecting the hose from the cable. I also used engine degreaser and pressure washed the engine compartment afterward.

Hi, I am not sure about your question 1. For question 2, it a mixture of WD40 and power steering fluid; 3) this is for manual cable steering (no power).

hen you are filing the hose, it says 150 psi and 10 feet. So I guess the hose is 10 feet long. do you use it all?
