    After years of LotR lore youtube channels based themselves on accuracy of the lore,all of a sudden they totally shilled out,thats what bugs me the most how people can sell out their integrity

      Yea, many of them suddenly don't care about accuracy or respect for Tolkien. Perhaps they never did, only when it suited their content creation but do they really have to sell out to succeed on TH-cam? they can easily criticize the show and gain as many viewers if not much more.

    Sadly, even the one cool-looking thing in this God-forsaken show, the Balrog, is completely out of place lore-wise.
    All remaining Balrogs dissappear from the world at the end of the First Age after Morgoth's defeat in War of Wrath, hiding themselves near the roots of the Earth. The one single Balrog we ever hear about again is then awaken in Khazad-Dum in 1980 of the Third Age (missing the entire Second Age and pretty much 2/3 of the Third Age; in total almost 5 500 years).
    ...a bait for mindlessly claping seals :\

      The show has a prologue showing stuff from the first age, the balrog in the trailer is most likely from a scene from the first age.

    For whichever panelist said the Elves are supposed to look feminine:
    "Long afterwards my father would write, in a wrathful comment on a ‘pretty’ or ‘ladylike’ pictorial rendering of Legolas:
    He was tall as a young tree, lithe, immensely strong, able swiftly to draw a great war-bow and shoot down a Nazgûl, endowed with the tremendous vitality of Elvish bodies, so hard and resistant to hurt that he went only in light shoes over rock or through snow, the most tireless of all the Fellowship."

    The amount of lore mistakes is just astounding. It’s not even just lore mistakes, it’s literally opposite to the lore! Sauron taking a human form is just impossible. He absolutely hated and looked down upon them. At least with the Elves, while he loathed them, he still had, albeit reluctantly, a certain amount of respect. He’d never take a human form!
    They are making it look like Galadriel, the well protected princess, was anywhere near battles and war. Absolute delusions! And no Celeborn! How would Celebrian be born, so Arwen could exist? Like what?!
    And apparently Celebrimbor didn’t come up with the three rings on his own. What in Arda?!

      It seems now that Galadriel is Gandalf, Aragorn, Gimli, Boramir and Legolas and Frodo all in one woman and better than all combined, shes so amazing. The balrog design they used in Peter Jackson's fellowship adaptation was designed by John Howe, he had used it before in his book illustrations. Since he worlked on this disaster and it's his design they where able to use it i guess. Member Berrie indeed! Yeah right, they don't want to connect to Jackson's Trilogy. This show is so unfaithfull and they know it, so much so that they'll do anything to trick you in to watching it. They are lesser men trying to stand on the works of better men. • @fantasywind3923
      @fantasywind3923 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SGABlencathra yeah, Akallabeth is great, so many good pieces of Tolkien dialogue that we know will never be used in any adaptation:
      " And Amandil, becoming aware of the purposes of the King, was dismayed and filled with a great dread, for he knew that Men could not vanquish the Valar in war, and that ruin must come upon the world, if this war were not stayed. Therefore he called his son, Elendil, and he said to him:
      'The days are dark, and there is no hope for Men, for the Faithful are few. Therefore I am minded to try that counsel which our forefather Eärendil took of old, to sail into the West, be there ban or no, and to speak to the Valar, even to Manwë himself, if may be, and beseech his aid ere all is lost.'
      'Would you then betray the King?' said Elendil. 'For you know well the charge that they make against us, that we are traitors and spies, and that until this day it has been false.'
      'If I thought that Manwë needed such a messenger,' said Amandil, I would betray the King. For there is but one loyalty from which no man can be absolved in heart for any cause. But it is for mercy upon Men and their deliverance from Sauron the Deceiver that I would plead, since some at least have remained faithful. And as for the Ban, I will suffer in myself the penalty, lest all my people should become guilty.'
      'But what think you, my father, is like to befall those of your house whom you leave behind, when your deed becomes known?'
      'It must not become known,' said Amandil. 'I will prepare my going in secret, and I will set sail into the east, whither daily the ships depart from our havens; and thereafter, as wind and chance may allow, I will go about, through south or north, back into the west, and seek what I may find. But for you and your folk, my son, I counsel that you should prepare yourselves other ships, and put aboard all such things as your hearts cannot bear to part with; and when the ships are ready, you should lie in the haven of Rómenna, and give out among men that you purpose, when you see your time, to follow me into the east. Amandil is no longer so dear to our kinsman upon the throne that he will grieve over much, if we seek to depart, for a season or for good. But let it not be seen that you intend to take many men, or he will be troubled, because of the war that he now plots, for which he will need all the force that he may gather. Seek out the Faithful that are known still to be true, and let them join you in secret, if they are willing to go with you, and share in your design.'
      'And what shall that design be?' said Elendil.
      'To meddle not in the war, and to watch,' answered Amandil. 'Until I return I can say no more. But it is most like that you shall fly from the Land of the Star with no star to guide you; for that land is defiled. Then you shall lose all that you have loved, foretasting death in life, seeking a land of exile elsewhere. But east or west the Valar alone can say.'
      Then Amandil said farewell to all his household, as one that is about to die. 'For,' said he, 'it may well prove that you will see me never again; and that I shall show you no such sign as Eärendil showed long ago. But hold you ever in readiness, for the end of the world that we have known is now at hand.'"
      THAT would have been such a great and poignant moment in any visual adaptation! Funny thing is that Amandil as a character is mentioned in Lotr appendices, but of course so far there are no news of him ever appearing (heh I guess we must feel 'lucky' that his son Elendil will appear at all,...but they might butcher him completely or portray him negatively!)
      I must say that I would prefer any Tolkien text over the Amazon fanfiction! :) Even the unfinished Tal-Elmar story from HoME (this one deals with 'diversity' way better hehe, tale from the point of view of the 'wildmen' native tribes of Middle-earth witnessing Numenorean colonialism) or the numenorean chapters from The Lost Road, this was a sort of early draft narrative set in Numenor focused again on Elendil and his son Isildur(or as in that text he was called Herendil).
      Hell I'd sooner take a Mainer's Wife adaptation, the story of Aldarion and Erendis maybe has less action (though if the exploratory voyages of Aldarion would be shown there would be adventure) and is more like family drama set in Numenor with some political overtones, but it would be much better written!

    While I am glad that a segment of the people involved were able to work and put food on their table and pay their bills working on this POS, my honest wish is that this would fail miserably in so many other ways and ruin the careers of all of the people who have championed it whether as actors or producers or writers or directors and that it would completely blow up in Jeff Bezos' face and force him to eat a piece of humble pie. This show has shown continually that it is nothing but a blatant, tokenized, moderized perversion of a world that was created by an author whose intellect and imagination completely blows away anyone that is working on this show. The love and commitment that Tolkien poured into building Middle-Earth is being blackened and destroyed every second that this goes on.
    I don't care if I'm called a phobe or an ist or whatever. There are no black elves or dwarves. Female dwarves have beards. Galadriel was married to Celeborn and she didn't do any of this stuff they have her involved in. Tar-Miriel is has been cast as a tokenized black woman to appease diversity checkboxes. This Harfoot/Hobbit nonsense is just filler, as are half the made up characters on the show, it seems. There were no wizards in the 2nd age. SAURON made the One Ring. The Ages of the Lamps and the Trees and the First and Second Ages did not involve any storytelling at all with hobbits or their ancestors. There was no need for time compression.
    This is all just junk and trash and I honestly don't care if there is never another attempt in my lifetime to adapt any Tolkien material to the screen at all. We now see that if Hollywood/Media Conglomerates/Corporations are involved - they only care about pandering to a small, vocal minority of people whoare perverted in mind, body and soul, and live and die by what goes on in Twitterverse. Everyone else, especially those who built the foundation of the fanbase through the $$$$$$ that they spent and made it possible at all for it to be popular enough as an option for development, are apparently just condemned to the pits of hell for caring about the legacy of its creator.

Until then, I will wait and see myself what they have done.

      Heh rings of misandry,.....this reminds me of the misandrist attitude of Erendis in the story The Mariner's Wife:
      "Her mother had spoken unceasingly against men, and indeed a remarkable example of Erendis' teaching in this respect is preserved:
      Men in Númenor are half-Elves (said Erendis), especially the high men; they are neither the one nor the other. The long life that they were granted deceives them, and they dally in the world, children in mind, until age finds them - and then many only forsake play out of doors for play in their houses. They turn their play into great matters and great matters into play. They would be craftsmen and loremasters and heroes all at once; and women to them are but fires on the hearth - for others to tend, until they are tired of play in the evening. All things were made for their service: hills are for quarries, river to furnish water or to turn wheels, trees for boards, women for their body's need, or if fair to adorn their table and hearth; and children to be teased when nothing else is to do - but they would as soon play with their hounds' whelps. To all they are gracious and kind, merry as larks in the morning (if the sun shines); for they are never wrathful if they can avoid it. Men should be gay, they hold, generous as the rich, giving away what they do not need. Anger they show only when they become aware, suddenly, that there are other wills in the world beside their own. Then they will be as ruthless as the seawind if anything dare to withstand them.
      Thus it is, Ancalimë, and we cannot alter it. For men fashioned Númenor: men, those heroes of old that they sing of - of their women we hear less, save that they wept when their men were slain. Númenor was to be a rest after war. But if they weary of rest and the plays of peace, soon they will go back to their great play, manslaying and war. Thus it is; and we are set here among them. But we need not assent. If we love Númenor also, let us enjoy it before they ruin it. We also are daughters of the great, and we have wills and courage of our own. Therefore do not bend, Ancalimë. Once bend a little, and they will bend you further until you are bowed down. Sink your roots into the rock, and face the wind, though it blow away all your leaves."
      One one hand bold words of 'emancypation' on the other they are bitter and colored with her resentment towards men due to her unhappy marriage :).

      If you wanna keep this from happening again, though, go after Amazon's pride, since this is all about Bezos' ego. They were never going to make any money off this show, streaming just isn't profitable enough and amazon prime video is an afterthought to most amazon prime users, so it's not like this show is going to make a difference one way or another. The show only exists because Bezos wants the same attention Game of Throne had in season 1 (which is why this looks like a cheap GoT immitation).

    Lenny Henry was a comedian from the 80’s to 90’s. He was controversial for the time but a comedian in the pack with Jim Davies and Roy Chubby Brown.
    Then he continued to do comedy for a charity show called ‘Comic Relief’ as a presenter and again he was a comedian. But that comedy scene he was a part of died out during the 2000’s so he managed to change gear.
    Then he sort of disappeared in the 2010’s and only did serious charity ads in black and white. So, strange to see him here. I think he had some film comedy acting roles. He may be trying to start a come-back like James Cordon (a failed “Hi I’m fat UK comedian who got big by accident in ‘Gavin and Stacey’ then saw an opening in the US market) but who knows.

    • @fantasywind3923
      @fantasywind3923 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah this is one of the most bizzare decisions to not include Celeborn and Celebrian in this show!! I mean hell Celebrian was born in Second Age, she would be a good choice for a irresponsible youngster instead of Galadriel :). Celeborn could have time to shine in this show! He is described as Celeborn the Wise: " For the Lord of the Galadhrim is accounted the wisest of the elves of Middle-earth, and a giver of gifts beyond the power of kings....'." Yet already he was disrespected in the hobbit films when he was erased from the White Council and now this?! Celebrian also met Elrond in later period of Second Age so their love begun in that time:
      "She committed Lórinand to Amroth, and passing again through Moria with Celebrían she came to Imladris, seeking Celeborn. There (it seems) she found him, and there they dwelt together for a long time; and it was then that Elrond first saw Celebrían, and loved her, though he said nothing of it. It was while Galadriel was in Imladris that the Council referred to above was held. But at some later time [there is no indication of the date] Galadriel and Celeborn together with Celebrían departed from Imladris and went to the little-inhabited lands between the mouth of the Gwathló and Ethir Anduin."
      Celebrian could have been the more likely female character to focus on a bit to show her inexperience and attitude, also her arch could be sort of reflecting on Eowyn's, have her in a period of interest with arms and then turn to healing, (Celebrian seems to have association with it as she received a magical artifact Elessar the Elfstone with healing powers):
      "And it is said that more subtle and clear was the green gem that he made than that of Enerdhil, but yet its light had less power. For whereas that of Enerdhil was lit by the Sun in its youth, already many years had passed ere Celebrimbor began his work, and nowhere in Middle-earth was the light as clear as it had been, for though Morgoth had been thrust out into the Void and could not enter again, his far shadow lay upon it. Radiant nonetheless was the Elessar of Celebrimbor; and he set it within a great brooch of silver in the likeness of an eagle rising upon outspread wings." Wielding the Elessar all things grew fair about Galadriel, until the coming of the Shadow to the Forest. But afterwards when Nenya, chief of the Three," was sent to her by Celebrimbor, she needed it (as she thought) no more, and she gave it to Celebrían her daughter, and so it came to Arwen and to Aragorn who was called Elessar."

    Notable events in this year include:
    The Witch-king comes to Mordor and there gathers the Nazgûl.
    *****A Balrog appears in Moria, and slays King Durin VI.****
    Náin I, son of Durin VI, becomes the King of Durin's Folk.

And Anatar the lord of gifts was disguised as a Vanyar elf who are closest to the valar and eru. They always stayed within valinor being the valar highest elf servants and that is why Sauron or Anatar chose to look like one of them because all elfs know the integrity of their kind.

Maybe hire writers and showrunners that wont be speaking for groups they aren't a part of and likely have no meaningful investment in. I say this as a white dude myself, we should be sticking more in our lane and letting other people write the stories that are actually relevant to them.

  • @RoninDave
    @RoninDave 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's weird to place an entire 5 season series in a time period sandwiched in by far more interesting time periods that Tolkien was more into. His published works in his lifetime were at the end of the Third Age with The Hobbit and LOTR but the writings he was constantly focusing on and reworking were the tales of the First Age. The Second Age was mainly just one long summary to get from the First Age to the LOTR. With the exception of a few unfinished stories he didn't put a lot of effort into fleshing out the Second Age. The closest he came to a novel or novella of the Second Age was the Akallabeth - the Fall of Numenor. There you had an interesting tale of men who were given great gifts but wanted the one thing denied to them - immortality in the physical world. This denial slowly ate at them turning them down a dark path of fear and resentment long before Sauron arrived and he merely hastened their downfall by appealing to their pride and resentment. The Rings including the One Ring have little to do with the story as Sauron really just nudged them a little quicker down that path. This would have made for a far better series with some fleshing out (not 5 seasons though) and it ties in nicely with the LOTR dealing with the ancestors of Aragorn. The elements of the drama are already there - the division between the Elf-friends and the King's Men and with the Valar so non-intervening the doubt of the people (this would probably be too anti-atheist for some)
    Instead it seems they are making Galadriel a character who was a side character in all of the lore the main character and presumably Tar-Miriel as a major character as well with little mention of Elendil ie ancestor of Aragorn, father of Isildur, and half the tag-team that takes down Sauron. You'd think Elrond the product of elf, man, and Maiar whose daughter eventually marries Aragorn would be more prominent. Hell, Elrond practically IS Middle Earth! He's descended from the 3 Houses of Men, the Sindar and the Noldor elves, plus his great-great grandmother was a Maiar. Galadriel as only being a Noldor who had seen the light of the Two Trees should be more in a position of wisdom having seen things most people by the Second Age have not. Even in the Second Age, Galadriel should be like she was in the Third Age - someone from a much earlier time with an ethereal quality. Elrond with his complex heritage and relatively youthful age for elves would be a far more dramatic figure facing off against a foe who was an adversary to his great-grandparents (Beren and Luthien). And he has to watch in sorrow the descendants of his brother turn to Sauron which would be far more distressing for him then it would be for Galadriel given that she has no personal connection with the Numenoreans.
    The more you think about it the more you (should) realize the missed opportunity in making Elrond the protagonist who chose to be an elf over human, has to watch many of his mortal friends including his brother die, face off against the ancient foe of his ancestors, and eventually deciding on a path of war or wisdom. Instead it looks like we'll get a revenge quest by Galadriel over the death of a brother that didn't exist in the original source material - yay?

    I'm completely over this. Right now the most disappointing Lord of the Rings I've heard is that all references to Gandalf have been scrubbed from datamined voice lines in Multiversus after the most recent update. At best this means that they are just delaying adding him to the game for awhile, at worst this means that they are scrapping their plans to add him to the game completely.
