I'm a commercial artist, and I agree 100% with the opening statement in this video - if I post a piece of art, I own it. I can't tell people they're wrong for not liking it. Love the video BTW - keep up the good work.
Im a musician, I’m thankful when people listen to my art, which I don’t even push on my closest friends or family. You can tell these people aren’t artists, artists make it for themselves as an expression of their emotion/creativity/etc, for their own fulfilment, and may choose to share it with others. They don’t demand your attention, demand you pay them for the privilege, and attack your character/morality if you don’t like it. People are so busy and stressed, expecting them to make time for your art is pretty selfish.
This is a direct collision between a high-handed and dogmatic corporate environment's utter contempt for the creative process and the reality of the garbage they've produced. I'm sure they can get 100% agreement with any garbage they want in the meeting rooms and it's incredibly annoying to them that they can't dominate the actual viewers the same way.
Great point. Seems that the whole purpose this was made in the first place was simply to make something that had woke points, and with the express purpose of doing it with a major franchise that was entirely not woke in the least. Since there's so much backlash from those producing the "art", I'd say this is all an exercise in trying to indoctrinate others and not at all about art. In the history of the world, people make all kinds of things for all kinds of reasons. Much of it has art within it because people have feelings and those feelings get translated into their work. Anyone with any common sense or good spirit knows it's wrong to dismiss a person based on their acceptance of anything else made within the world. Tastes are completely subjective. Heck, not everyone likes fantasy or the LOTR to begin with. It's very popular but hardly a must-like by itself. Why should ROP be universally loved by all? This is all insane to even think about.
Bosch is better than all of them but it’s a personal preference. Prime has some good shows but there is no way they make a profit. People get Prime for the shopping and shipping benefit, not to watch shows. Plus it doesn’t work very well for me; TONS of problems with sound and picture not syncing, even with shows I paid for. And I watch through the Amazon Fire Stick, inexcusable.
I work with someone who calls themselves a "Tolkien Nerd" but hasn't read the books and thought the Peter Jackson Hobbit trilogy was brilliant. She got offended when I said you can't say you're a Tolkien fan if you haven't even read the books. "Come on, man!"
Great panel and guest y’all keep hitting it out of the park - get all the latest artists and writers on together which would be epic listening to their stories
Lenny Henry and Sophia Nomvete patting themselves on their backs about their skin color drove me away. And being called racist from the producers because I didn't watch the show didn't help either. I watched some interviews of those 2 guys, and they came off as nothing more than activists. Just how a business could trust something as big as Rings of Power with 2 untried people with an agenda is mind staggering. The show was nothing more than a social platform from the beginning.
I have Prime and I didn't even bother watching it. What really sucks is you can no longer leave reviews or read reviews on any of Amazons digital movies. Now I'm forced to go to other sites to investigate a movie to see if I may like it. This has caused me to not click buy because it's no longer as easy.
As a Tolkien lover who first jumped into Middle Earth back in late 80s with the Ralph Bakshi movie (the book came later), I was intrigued by the idea of a series based on the Silmarillion, but as soon as I saw the first trailers I totally avoided the series and hug once more my LOTR DVD collection. As for Amazon Prime Video, their only tv series I'll be looking towards will be Reacher season 2, since I really enjoyed the first season.
The Expanse was better... they should have leaned into it. Everyone wanted more of that show, but their own in-fighting and politics ended up killing it off.
Politics didn't kill off the Expanse, it pulled off the exact opposite of GoT S8 and gave us a bittersweet, but competent finale until(if) future seasons are greenlit.
@@kazansky22 Nope, there are 3 more books they could adapt. The problem is: the story makes a 20 year time jump, between book 6 ( where the show ended) and book 7. Allegedly, the producers want to wait some years for the actors to age and then adapt the final books as a movie trilogy, but these are all rumors nothing official.
I really like the new editing where it's zoomed in on who is speaking, it feels more engaging. On a side note I was just telling Disparu earlier today about how parrot analytics counts negative interactions as part of their "in demand" numbers, now they will count this video as +1 for RoP. lmao.
Could not be bothered to even finish episode 2. I tried to watch it but the protests from inside my soul and from those in my house were too loud and we decided to re-watch Eureka. Season 1. We all agreed after just 10 minutes of the 1st episode of Eureka that the content was better, more to talk about, and more interesting than an hour of the first episode of RoP.
I’m 65. I’m almost totally disinterested in modern TV series and movies. I had been a fan of Dr Who but Chibnall’s run with it destroyed that completely. Currently rewatching series, such a Person of Interest and Reacher on Prime. Don’t have Netflix, Disney+, or any other streaming service. I only have Prime Video because it was a freebie with Prime. There’s nothing new with video games either, just sequels and more of the same.
the beard can be excused, and even overlooked. It's a makeup choice, and can be shrugged off if everything else was ok. what can't be excused, is the actress being told "You go on camera and make emphasis on you being the _FIRST!_ female dwarf on screen! that's what we're selling here! sell it!", and her following suit without even double-checking, first, the claim itself, second, the script that she was given to work with on set, and third, THE ACTUAL LORE, which has been out there for literally 100 years! same with the Picard series! literal 50 years of lore across multiple media! you can't miss something as pivotal to the story as the driving force behind an entire RACE!
@@bcn1gh7h4wk I'm with you, she was by far the worst in cast interviews of any of the half dozen woke specials we've had to deal with the past year, but from the clips I've seen, she seems like one of the better actors of the series. If she would have just kept her mouth shut and focused on the acting, she might have won people's respect.
That's the entire goal of Parrot Analytics. They collect anything with hashtags or keywords related to the show and spin it as "interest" or "demand" for the show. It's entirely deceptive and you should not believe any article that cites PA as a source.
I feel sorry for that horse and I hope he went quickly and before they actually gave a damn about their own work and the works of those who came before and that is why the 80s and 90s were the best years.
Because they've deluded themselves into believing its not a failure. They use shill-statistics from Parrot Analytics to give them some "positive" numbers on paper, then plug their ears and go back under their rocks. It's gonna be glorious when all this nonsense hits them for real.
So the budget was 58 million dollars for the episode. Good God ...you could make literally tens of movies with decent special effects and good character actors with that kind of moolah without even breaking any competent producers sweat. Only in the Clown World this kind of shit is understandable.
Reacher was a joy. They tried so hard to keep it close to the book. Reacher is exactly who I imagined...actually he's perfect.Supporting cast very good too.
Oddly enough, I’ve met someone that actually loved the show. He is on my wife’s side of the family so I didn’t take the bait when he said it was perfect and held to Tolkien’s vision. She feels the same way I do so I just nodded and let that part of the conversation die… Unlike how Amazon murdered Tolkien’s work.
lol they didn't murder anything, the books are still there, they just made a crappy spinoff. That actually sounds impossible to pull off, but they did it lol
@@smaug1234 I still think Oscars or one of those reward shows should have "Top Failure of the Year" I'm certain that would draw in more audience than what they are used to xD
It would be tiring to even discuss that concept with someone so clueless so I can't blame you for not going there. Still, I am completely in awe that anyone could even have that opinion and would love to hear the nuts and bolts of it.
@@smaug1234 Yes, they did murder it and no they did not pull it off. It's not a spinoff when you change the fundamentals of the world the stories are based in. Just because they used some of the same names does not make it legit or a spinoff. I mean, is the Bourne series a spinoff of James Bond just because you could somehow link through the CIA (Felix Lighter) to Treadstone by making shit up? Just because someone says it's a spinoff does not make it copacetic to the original source material; dates and actual history were changed to make a new story, an abomination of the original creation. I don't know that anyone likes the little people in ROP but there is plenty of wiggle room there, why change the stuff set in stone? Plenty of room to create without shitting on the source.
@@rodneybray5827 Semantics and my point stands, despite a poor show the book shelves are still full of the original books and nobody was forced to watch anything they did not want too. The first Dune adaptation did not murder anyone's childhood or take the book away from anyone either, but yet it still created some small audience in the end and that's a really bad adaptation. As for why they went they way they did, who the hell knows, there are mistakes and then there are mistakes. I think people could have lived with the Proto-Hobbits, but its the Sauron vs Galadriel storyline that is the real damaging one for the story writers. It is sad as far as I am concerned. A bunch of writers got together and this is what they thought was a good idea... its almost unimaginable yet here we are.
I have heard that season 2 is supposed to be 12 episodes, but don't quote me on that. I am going to make a prediction, and mark my words. Season 2 will get such poor viewing it will get yanked off its streaming channel BEFORE the end of the season. They will quietly shitcan it and then come up with some BS, but, the Fandom will get blamed again
Amazon doesn't care if people are watching, as long as they have lots of paid subscribers. In fact, Amazon has bigger profits if people subscribe and don't watch. Watching makes their servers work harder and sucks up bandwidth.
The best show Prime ever made was Bosch. Bosch is a very intelligent cop drama with excellent scripts, stories, and acting, plus the cast is naturally diverse without being forced (imagine that). But the show is somewhat niche, it’s a little dry, and a little slow for mass appeal. But smart people who like detective stories with some drama will enjoy. (Avoid the last season, ugh. And I have not sampled the follow-up series called Bosch Legacy I think.)
Used to think that there'd be a point where as audience figures fell they'd put their hands up and start working with the audience to create good material. Realise now that they genuinely don't give a shit as they hate anyone that cares about this as we just don't 'get it'. If it does collapse they'll just move onto the next thing to destroy.
They can try but the problem is the economy is in a nosedive and companies have wised up to the fact that the most unprofitable move you can make is hiring based on DEI. The woke cultists are only able to find jobs at times of luxury.
I don't understand why they think insulting us, their audience, the paying customer is such a good idea... it makes no sense. They couldn't pay me to watch that garbage. Its not Tolkien.
I personally can't wait for season 2...to watch it tank and be absolutely ridiculed and destroyed by The Fellowship. Go back to the shadow! You cannot pass!

@@samblack5313 Disney is simply a fast-food franchise system producing films.
I would consider The Boys a breakout hit with multiple seasons and Reacher/The Terminal List are right there. All three outperformed RoP.
There are a ton of great originals on Amazon actually. This was one of their worst.
@@PeteQuad I agree.
I love The Boys. Eagerly looking forward to the next season.
The Boys is also a political statement. Season 1 was good. Season 2 is insufferable but i suffered trough it. I didn't bother with season 3.
Rings of Power officially has a death toll
I actually know of one person who liked the show! Got angry with me when I said it was a dumpster fire. He was offended!
It’s amazing how childish and angry people with no taste are.
Good.
Good.
lots apologists aholes still defending this show. Calling anyone that doesnt like it as "gatekeepers" and racist
Avoid that freak. He is dangerous.
I work with someone who calls themselves a "Tolkien Nerd" but hasn't read the books and thought the Peter Jackson Hobbit trilogy was brilliant.
She got offended when I said you can't say you're a Tolkien fan if you haven't even read the books.
"Come on, man!"
"The creation of Mordor by some hobo..."
Comedy gold!
Takes "Murder hobo" to a new level!
Great panel and guest y’all keep hitting it out of the park - get all the latest artists and writers on together which would be epic listening to their stories
"People will watch a car wreck though." -- Kelley Jones, tapping the last nail into the casket
I am more engaged with your discussions than I was trying to watch the first half of S1 EP1 of Ring of Poop.
Out of the 38% who watched the whole run of shows 35% fell asleep on episode 1 and it ran in backround all night
Rings of Power: The more you watch the less you want to watch.
Confirmed
The books jump into the future by several decades. It didn't die because of internal strife.
Did they fire Cas Anvar over stupidity? Yes.
@@WarGhoulKharas they could’ve continued it after the time jump though, the books are already written.
I believe they ran out of books.
I loved the expanse.
On a side note I was just telling Disparu earlier today about how parrot analytics counts negative interactions as part of their "in demand" numbers, now they will count this video as +1 for RoP. lmao.
The horse Galadriel was riding in that one scene on the beach must've caught a reflection of her smiling face and died of a heart attack on the spot.
Ms Salty said, "I asked my minions if it was successful and they said, "Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssss$$$$$$$$$$$$, masstah........""
Everything is being destroyed by overdoing everything or the overdoing of the woke garbage...
Terminal List is their top show both by user rating and hours streamed and the books are great and have enough for another 5 seasons so far.
Those 37% should be hired by the special forces for pain tolerance alone.
@@TheBlackstaff 😂😂😂😂 my favorite comment yet!
My son can explain why Disa has no beard. You see, she is a human with dwarfism who married someone of the dwarf species. I love this theory so much.
A human from Harad I guess.
Now that make sense. 😂😂😂
Mail-order brides in Middle-Earth? This gets more dystopian by the day.
the beard can be excused, and even overlooked.
Kel makes a good point about indifference. Negative buzz is still buzz, and can be skewed. When people don't care at all, there's no way to spin that.
That's the entire goal of Parrot Analytics. They collect anything with hashtags or keywords related to the show and spin it as "interest" or "demand" for the show. It's entirely deceptive and you should not believe any article that cites PA as a source.
The best thing about Rings of Power is watching it burn to the ground.
I feel sorry for that horse and I hope he went quickly and before they actually gave a damn about their own work and the works of those who came before and that is why the 80s and 90s were the best years.
Amazon’s rings of power failed so spectacularly and yet Jennifer Salke still has a job. Lol
Because they've deluded themselves into believing its not a failure. They use shill-statistics from Parrot Analytics to give them some "positive" numbers on paper, then plug their ears and go back under their rocks.
It's gonna be glorious when all this nonsense hits them for real.
She shares DNA with Alex Kurtzman and Kathleen Kennedy.
All the woke trash people still have jobs because those people run the world...lol
Another great show, this time with the Immortal Kelley Jones. Go watch the full stream people!

Guyladriel: "You have not seen what I've seen!"
63% of the audience: "Yeah. We know. We quit watching after you parkoured a snow troll."
So the budget was 58 million dollars for the episode. Good God ...you could make literally tens of movies with decent special effects and good character actors with that kind of moolah without even breaking any competent producers sweat. Only in the Clown World this kind of shit is understandable.
"ROP is Amazon Primes top original."
That's just patently false.
Amazon's 2 best shows last year were Reacher & The Terminal List. So glad we are getting a season 2 for both shows with a spinoff from Terminal List
Reacher was a joy. They tried so hard to keep it close to the book. Reacher is exactly who I imagined...actually he's perfect.Supporting cast very good too.
Reacher was fun for sure. Only thing I’ve watched aside from The Expanse and motorcycle racing in the last year or so.
Reacher was brilliant. Just sad Roscoe won't be back. I loved her.
I’m so in your side guys against all this woke crap. 🙌🏼
It's going to be *so much fun* to watch you guys roast S2
It is sad as far as
I am concerned.
I don't think they even watched the Rankin-Bass animated films.
Kelley Jones' Batman gave me nightmares...in a good way lol. He's so down to earth.
My buddy and I tuned in and stopped watching within 15 min. Saw the troll fighting scene and said nah 😂
I got my Amazon account locked cause I gave Rings of Power a 1 star review. This is how petty they are.
How much of that 37% were just TH-cam reviewers
I don't understand why they think insulting us, their audience, the paying customer is such a good idea... it makes no sense. They couldn't pay me to watch that garbage. Its not Tolkien.

You know why I look forward to season 2? To watch all the VTubers dunking on the cringe.
Well, at the very least, the horses are gonna be on suicide watch after that one off'd itself.

Don't worry in season 2 Lia Thomas is gonna out swim Galadriel.
Well I mean no one is stronger then a a strong independent woman and trans women are the only real women. They are more real then Real women. Wait.
OH SHIT!!! It just hit me that the swimming scene was ripped completely out of The Princess Bride! Totally the screaming eels scene!

Normal answer: "No."
Woke answer: "Yes, you ungrateful bastard! You should be thankful we sold you a car!"
I watched all eight because for the first time in my life, I was overwhelmingly compelled to watch something that I had lived and loved since I was a small child die, week by week, in front of me. I am proud to tell you that even right until the end I had a fools hope that it could be saved, right until the last breath and credits I held that hope til it was gone.

Amazon wanted an epic, so they created something epically bad.

Yhe 2 episode battle next season isn't actually with weapons. It's about an unresolved issue about something that happened in high school between 2 characters who are married and it takes 2 episodes to get thru the argument they have
Self deluding optimism in Amazon is amazing! This is like watching Chernobyl mini-series; " You DIDN'T see the graphite on the ground", "RBMK reactors don't explode". etc 😂 Same thing; show was big success...
TROP makes me want to swap out Galadriels name in Chuck Norris jokes.
Side note, I just noticed Christopher Lloyd doing the "covering the genitals" pose in the Lizzo scene in Mandalorian (on a clip played by Clownfish). Has Gary talked about it yet? (Maybe he's saving it for FNT this week.)
I wonder how many people just put the show on the TV while they did other things. It's got a nice visual aesthetic (though, I did't watch one episode) so I could see people doing the dishes with it on, possibly on mute.
Great One! I especially enjoyed Az's reaction when you mentioned MauLer's beautiful country!
Didn't have to utter a syllable, the Look said it all! 🤣
Giving the Númenóreans Calvary just shows they don't understand Tolkien at all. That just means the Rohirrim totally redundant.

I think it's obnoxious they are making a season 2
They had the blue prints for Guaranteed win and their game was " we're gonna do the absolute and complete opposite" 😂
37% from what initial audience number 37% sounds like a lot but clearly 25 million was not the actual number

I watched the lord of the rings as a kid. Played shadow of Mordor & the sequel but I never press play when I scroll past this show 😂 Nerdrotic warned me!
I literally fell asleep during every episode. I have now rewatched every episode without missing anything, because I chose to view it as a comedy and made a game of picking out everything that pissed me off, or made me laugh at OBSURDITY.
Why?!
Couldn't you find something actually productive to do?
So you gave the show twice the views, then. Fail.
It's funny that they were talking about season 1 "setting up" for season 2 when all it did was knock down everything Tolkien had already in place.
I think it’s important to keep in mind that even if there were 37% of people who suffered through that mess, that same 37% isn’t coming back for season 2.
My brother and I made it through Wheel of Time season 1 and there’s 0 chance I’ll watch even a single clip from season 2. I’ve suffered enough.
It'll get better in season 2. Give it a chance. Tolkien universe is rich with great characters story and depth. Give it time to get better next season.

In all seriousness though. My assumption is it’s going to be like Westworld, where it continuously becomes a parody of itself and forgets all the reasons why people tuned in in the first place.

Not sure why you’re quoting the Amazon team on their “plans,” it’s pretty obvious they have no idea what they’re doing with the IP. I wouldn’t quote someone who made a mess of a story as a reliable source afterwards for their continuing efforts. They’re not trustworthy.
They don’t have a good track record. I’m not giving them any of my time. You don’t go back to the restaurant that sits you, then takes 2 hours and 45 minutes to bring out food that’s been burnt and tastes bad, just because it MIGHT be better.
Amazon hasn’t changed the cooks or staff, it won’t be any better. They haven’t learned their lesson. Throwing money at a show isn’t a way to create a show.
