Notice her feet never actually touch the ground. The kids playing doesn't see her. She is an angel. He's grieving the loss of her. She saying that even though I'm gone I will always be there. Her sister also passed away when she was young. Bring Me To Life...
All of her songs are amazing. I personally took this as a lover who has passed on, not a breakup. It's amazing how different people have their own takes on lyrics and what they mean to them. Keep up the good work and I hope you dive into the amazingness that is Evanescence.
The song was written by Amy Lee when she was 19 about having been desensitized in an abusive relationship and realizing things she had been missing in life. Off the album fallen awsome esp my immortal 🎶
I took, thought of a lover who passed away, possibly self intended, because they were obviously tortured, "when you cried, when you'd scream... I held your hand for all these years... You still have all of me." And, now, still so attached with her immortal.
I met my husband when I was 15 and he was 18. We married 12 days after my 16th birthday. We will celebrate our 51st wedding anniversary next month. My husband just turned 70 years old and I will be 67 next month. I can't imagine my life without him.
This song tears me up every time. It always makes me think about about what my Mom must have felt when my Dad passed at the age of 59. I totally agree with you about the songs meaning.
Amy lost her little sister who was 3yo when she passed. And while Amy has a lot of songs openly dedicated to her, this one was not confirmed to be such, but there is no doubt in my mind the event influenced this incredibly sad song. Amy is the oldest of five siblings, and she lost her brother a couple of years back to severe epilepsy, when he was 24. I am youngest of 3 siblings and can not imagine her pain, and the fact that she is creating masterpieces out of it is worth admiration at the very least.
It is about her sister, or at least she is channeling her own emotions in her singing. It doesn't really matter what it is about, it is about her sister to her... And you can feel it.
The song is about a child, her baby sister who died. It's about her spirit still lingering with her and memories. All her songs have meaning. You should check out memories by within temptation. It's amazing.
I'm sorry for your loss... I cannot imagine losing my wife, but the thought of her hanging around until my passing is soothing. God bless you getting through.
Amy Lee is an amazing singer. She is the lead singer for Evanescence. Bring Me To Life is one that you've probably heard. It's the song that put them on the map.
The times I've bawled my eyes out while listening to this song... It was breathtaking when it came out. Its that soft, velvety Aimee Lee's voice texture that is so hauntingly beautiful. Also she is an amazing pianist.
Man, I got catapulted back to my teenager times and experienced that pressure on my chest and pain again. Haven't listened to that song for a decade at least.
To me this has always been a song about someone passing on that has meant the world to you. Even the video with her all in white and never touching the ground seems ghostly. I have seen them live on multiple occasions and her voice is even better in person. For next songs hit the popular ones like Bring me to Life or Call me when your sober
Amy Lee has an amazing voice. Another female singer you should check out is Lzzy Hale from Halestorm. She has a gorgeous duet with Amy Lee called Break In. It's Lzzy's song, but there is a live studio version with Amy that is incredible.
I saw both in concert TOGETHER. Amazing! I've seen Evanescence 4x, including their 1st tour. I also have every Halestorm album. You need to know that Halestorm is more pure rock bordering on hard rock. Also, Lzzy's voice is very different. Evanescence was half a decade after Nightwish. Maybe check out Within Temptation for the same genre. Amaranthe is unique, blending multiple genres with 3 singers. For female fronted rock bands, I like Halestorm the best. The Pretty Reckless is also good. 💜
I lost both of my parents when I was young, and this song came out a decade later. It's always resonated with me. This is how I feel about having had to live most of my life without them -- despite the many years, they are the first thing I think about with every new event in my life. They still "have all of me".
Dear Lord I had this printed out and placed on the spot where my beautiful husband of 25 years died in a horrible car crash just over two years ago 💔💔💔 LOVE & MISS YOU MY ANTHONY ❣️
I'm so sorry!! Aside from losing another child, losing my significant other is my nightmare! I hope you've found peace and healing (as much as you ever can) from it! ❤ 🙏
She wrote the song about her sister who died One good thing about her video is that it can be interpreted anyway that you wish to be and she left it open for that. The actual words and the song was about her sister but if you wished, It could be about anybody you cared for. One thing I want you to think about and watch the video notice that he's walking around and never sees her. She never touches the ground. She's a ghost.
the lyrics were contributed by band member ben moody and they have nothing to do with amy's sister. the song about her sister is called hello, not my immortal. sorry but that's how it is...😉
Her voice is haunting. This song is so relatable to many for many different reasons. Loss of a loved one by death or just the death of a relationship. When she sings, "But though you're still with me, I've been alone all the long" implies a relationship where one person is still holding on while the other is half way out the door.
It was released a while ago my daughter introduced me to this group and I'm so grateful. My daughter is no longer with us but every time I hear music Kaitlyn shared with me, my heart is full. Thank you
She’s in white, he’s in black. She is always on something (car roof, tree, scaffolding, etc.) and he is always grounded. Amy Lee once said that this song was the perspective of a spirit trying to move on after death, but her loved one can’t let go.
Still struggle to listen to this song to this day. It came out only a couple of days after my fiancé passed away. It’s a beautiful song, and Amy Lee is an incredible singer and writer. Also to my memory, the album didn’t have the “heavy bit” which was only put in for the single.
This is about death not a break up. I believe it was written by the piano player when he lost someone. The emotions for her are so real after losing her sister
I actually chose this song to dance with my first son that got married. I have 4 sons and we have been through so many struggles together with me as a single mother. But we danced and I cried with happiness for the entire song. Her voice was just amazing and especially wiping away the tears felt right. But please listen to some of her other songs, they are all great.
They are very good. Bring me to Life is their breakout song and this song is on the same album. The original "My Immortal" is only piano and Amy Lee. This version with the band is a later version with the video. I don't think it was actually included on the original release but came later on the deluxe release. Both are extremely good
I always thought the video version and expecially how the the band guys seem to "rock out hard" when they come in was a bit jarring and against the grain for this song. Might be just me though.
I'm not a night wish fan. However I will always show up for some Amy Lee. Her music has gotten me through a lot over the years. Even during times I wasn't going through it. I'm still so captivated by her voice and always get sucked in. Her presence is just so powerful to me, and her music is so deep and raw. I love all types of music. However, for me, the deeper the message, the better. I just love that real, raw ish. I love the art of music period. It's one thing for someone to make music but if you can captivate people like that, you just can not deny the level of skill. Also like you said it's rare to find breakup music like this. Yes, there may be more artists going in this deep about a legit lost love. However, when she came on the scene, there just wasn't at all. I also love how well the band just comes in at just the right time to put perfect emphasis on the emotion being conveyed at that moment. ❤❤
I know most people hear this and think of a lover or partner who has passed or broken up with them, but I don't have that experience in my life so this song has always immediately thrown me back to the loss of my mother. The chorus has always felt like her words to me, how a parent wipes away your tears, chases away your fears, and holds your hand through the years. And now, even after all this time, I still feel her ghost at my side every time I cook a meal she taught me to make, or see her favorite flower (African Violets) or pull on a piece of clothing she made for me. And it feels like she's still with me, a piece of her always in her heart, and it warms me, but it's painful at the same time. With time, the sting has lessened and I can appreciate the memories, but in the beginning, it was very raw, and there were times when I just wished that if she had to be gone, she could be gone entirely, and take all my memories with her. I think this song truly captures grief. Loss of a serious relationship, through death or separation. And the lyrics are vague enough to capture any number of relationships. Loss of a partner, a parent, a child. The popularity really speaks to how much emotion she carries through to her audience. Great song.
This song saved DMCs (from Run DMC) life. I remember hearing an interview where he told a story of being really depressed and hearing this song and it helped him get though. He ended up listening to this song at least once a day
This song came out not long after my brother died I was 15 and my family imploded I didn't really have anyone to talk to about how I was feeling so I listened to this album and this song on repeat just trying to process my grief, this song still makes me think of my brother and it still makes me cry.
I thought this was about her sister who died. She can’t get over her passing. The “Immortal” is the memory that goes on forever. She would hold her when she was sick and crying.
No matter how many times I hear this song it still gets me in my feelings. The singer Pink also has a song called Family portrait. That also gets to me.
Man now 20 years later this song can still bring all the emotions to the surface amy is the queen of female led rock and definitely pathed the way for all the women in rock and metal we have today
I remember the first time a new friend said "you have to hear this album" back when this came out. And I was HOOKED. Half a lifetime ago.....and yet the music can bring me right back to that moment as if it was yesterday. Amy Lee is a brilliant singer and I love her voice so much. This entire album, Fallen, has not a single bad or mediocre song on it. "Bring Me to Life" is the one that had a lot of airplay but I'd also high suggest "Everybody's Fool" and "Going Under" from that album. From the album "The Open Door" I'd suggest "Lithium", "Call Me When You're Sober", "Snow White Queen", and "Lacrymosa". Also, the song "Missing". Amy Lee reminded me a bit of Lennon (Lennon Murphy), a female singer who also ventured into a metal sound but had some fantastically haunting songs as well. I'd suggest "My Beautiful" and "5:30 Saturday Morning" if you're curious about her. I knew of her before I heard Evanescence. Also, others on here have mentioned Lzzy Hale and Halestorm and I cannot agree with that enough. I love some fantastic female vocalists and musicians in the metal genre and feel like there aren't enough of them. :) "I Get Off" is probably the song that was heard the most on the radio by Halestorm. And it's damn good. But they have a TON of other amazing songs and I'm worried I wouldn't be able to list them all. LOL
Her voice is Beautiful. She reminds me of a modern day Siren from Greek Mythology. I get both lost and drawn to her as she sings. I have never heard anyone sing like she does in the five plus Decades that I have been on Earth. You need to check out Bring me to Life by Evanescence.
Definitely need to dive deeper into more Evanescence. They've been one of my favorite bands since their first album decades ago. Amy Lee is a world class singer. The band has more amazing songs than I could mention. They definitely go harder than this. Thanks for doing this. Shoutout to whoever suggested it. Evanescence is a whole feeling.
This song hit me most after my husband passed away. He’s still always with me. We had a son and he is awesome and lost his dad when he was 2 1/2 yrs old.
The first time I heard this song was a few years after my grandmother who raised me had passed away, I instantly dropped to my knees and started crying because it reminded me of her. till this day, some 20 plus years later it still brings a tear to my eye.
This has to be one of the most genuine reactions to this song lately. Love your assessments, and I sure hope this is the start of a beautiful evanescence journey. Amy Lee, is an amazing artist who nit only sings, but writes beautiful poetry wrapped in melodies she deliverscwith such an emotional charge, you feel it.. like with no other singer. Add to that her signature harmonies she sings with own main vocal line and beautiful piano playing and her unique beautiful tone/ color of voice and you have music that you simply hold on pedestal for obvious reasons. I would suggest you start from the beginning of their catalog with Going Under, Everybody's Fool, then Lithium, Sweet Sacrifice and Good Ebough... Thank you again for this beautiful refreshing honest reaction. Subbed. Rock on
I’m at least a million of those views. She represents a ghost of somebody who has past on and he can’t let her go is my interpretation of this video. Or, she can’t pass on from the mortal world because if her attachment to him. Amazing vocals. I’ve read she wrote this as a teenager.
The song was written by Amy Lee and Ben Moody, while in their teens (15 I believe), Amy Lee lost a sister at a young age, and guitarist Ben Moody (at the piano in this video) had just lost his grandfather, with whom he was extremely close. This song was written to help him deal with the loss. The imagery in the video, her in a white flowing dress, barefoot, and never touching the ground is meant to portray the spirit of a departed one.
This is one of my favourite reactions to one of my favourite songs! This song brings tears to my eyes every time. Your face when the band kicks in is a joy to watch. It’s a heart wrenching song. Loved this video!
please do more of evanescense, i was in high school when they hit the air and their music WAS my emo phase, hehe. love to hear you oppinion on her other stuff
One of my favorite songs of all time. I remember listening to the demo version of this song (it's only her + piano) and I could listen to it on repeat all night long. It's amazing.
I so enjoyed your reaction today. I first heard this song covered by Dan Vasc last summer. He mentioned Aimee Lee a few times so I checked this video out. It is such a spell-binding experience by both artists. The visuals in her video are thought-provoking but Dan's version, in it's simplicity, truly impacted me . Please check out Dan doing Immortal and Bring Me To Life. You will NOT be disappointed. See you soon....and Happy, Blessed New Year to you and all your loved ones 🤗❣
In High School after my dad died, this song got me through a lot. As an adult and actually listening to all the lyrics now, it seems like it was towards a significant other, but in high school after my dad's death i only heard certain parts of the song.
It's sad, because I listened to this song a lot when I was younger... and I never realized this happened to me. I fell in love with a guy and I lost him and I couldn't forget him for a very long time.
They were huge during my childhood. 20 years ago... Sheesh.. One of the band that lead me to metal music. I relisten to their discography this summer and it is still as solid as ever.
Evanescence is the band and it as created around 1997 or 98 by Amy Lee and Ben Moody who met I think in their sophomore or junior year of high school at a summer camp. Those two are creative geniuses!! They were the main writers of their songs for many years. Their early music has more emo vibes but very relevant and relatable especially the music videos like “Bring Me to Life”, “Going Under”, “Everybody’s Fool”, and “Lithium” and just SO MANY MORE!! Amy’s voice is ethereal and IMO awe inspiring!! 🖤💜 The original band broke up but especially thise first few albums were magic.
I know this song is generally thought to be about a breakup between two people. As Ive gotten older I actually have started to see this more as an internal dialogue with a younger self. When you realize your earlier self was through so much and you will never get rid of that self... but youre trying to come to terms with it and move on and grow. Love this song... makes me cry whenever I hear it
I’m also a fan of Floor. Amy Lee (Evanescence) was my introduction into a classical voice paired with rock. She’s amazing. Check out her song with Lizzie Hale (Halestorm) called “Break In feat. Amy Lee” by Halestorm. It’s some of the best female vocal duets I’ve ever heard - and they are both rock gals. Love it!
I absolutely loved Nightwish through the Tarja and Annette eras, but then ever since Floor came along I feel like the heart of the band has died. Not blaming this on Floor specifically as she's undoubtedly amazingly talented - I just think that Thomas' relationship with Tarja was so instrumental in driving his songwriting through those eras (including the Annette era, where much of the writing was motivated by Tarja's leaving / firing) - I feel like Thoumas has now come to peace with the whole Tarja situation and as a result I feel he's kinda lost a lot of the emotional motivation for his writing. I just feel a lot of his newere songs are less passionate, less interesting, less captivating. I also feel that Floor with her mainstream vocal style (as talented as she is) has dragged nightwish more towards the mainstream and kinda killed the unique character that made them so interesting to begin with. I know this is a controversial take that many will disagree with (as Floor's sound is definitely less unique/quirky then Tarja's, which makes her more appealing to a larger mass of audiences) but it is what it is!
A stunning voice with the looks of an angel. She never sold her body/looks to make it (and she could have .. easily). Always beautiful, classy and heartbreaking vocals.
Saw Evanescence on their most recent tour in Sydney, Australia. I have always loved her voice & the band’s combination of ballad & rock is awesome. Amy Lee’s voice is as great as ever✌🏼
From the perspective of the video she’s the ghost - notice how she’s never touching the ground, plus the arm wraps. From the perspective of the lyrics she’s the one left behind after a loved one’s death. Amazing song and video!
Evanescence has been around for quite awhile and Ive seen them live with Halestorm and both are absolutely amazing!! Definitely will second the hope that you dive deep into Evanescence amd Lzzy Hale from Halestorm!!
So.. The drummer in this band at this time of the video is Rocky. He was in Living Sacrifice; a heavy metal band and he was a lead guitar player. Check out the album "The Hammering Process."
I've always interpreted this song as not losing someone to a break-up, but losing someone to death.
I use it for that 😢
Stay safe ❤

It's not about her sister the song Hello is about her sister, this a song of a band mate lost a parent or grandparent.

She has one of the most pure and ethereal voices you may ever hear. She either wrote or cowrote the majority of their songs.

When my wife passed away this song helped me get out a ton of emotion. I didn't appreciate the song until I could relate to it. Amazing song.

Same
She was popping early 2000’s
Amy is a gem, and she's just as good in her live performances.
Great song.
My grandmother was that loss for me. Still after 15 yrs, I can't hardly look at a picture of her. Love to you❤
The song is actually about Amy's (the singer) sister who passed away so it makes sense you feel the songs connection to your mum 😊
This song saved DMCs (from Run DMC) life. I remember hearing an interview where he told a story of being really depressed and hearing this song and it helped him get though. He ended up listening to this song at least once a day
I think this is about a loved one dying. She's dressed in white and never touches the ground in the video - possibly representing an angel.
I don’t think it’s a breakup song. The person has passed. Some say she is representing jt by never touching the ground. Dressed in white as an angel.
It's about losing a child who passed away.
@@brianhodges2382 it's about her sister
Makes me tear up every time.
This song reminds me of my late mother all ways makes me cry I rember mom was always there to hold my hand when I needed someone.... R.i.p mom
Amy Lee's voice is a force of nature. This song is great, but my favorite Evanescence ever put out was Going Under.
Just beautiful x
She has one of the most beautiful voices ever, hands down.
We had a son and he is awesome and lost his dad when he was 2 1/2 yrs old.
she's a ghost, she never touches the earth. Most beautiful song.
Subbed. Rock on
You will be blown away with her voice and also the band
She wrote this song after a loved one died. Hauntingly beautiful....that's Amy Lee!!🎶🎼🎵💜💜🎸🎧🥁🎤🎹🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
I’m at least a million of those views. She represents a ghost of somebody who has past on and he can’t let her go is my interpretation of this video. Or, she can’t pass on from the mortal world because if her attachment to him. Amazing vocals. I’ve read she wrote this as a teenager.
Love the ending of this! Also like Call me when you’re sober.
I love this song and band, thank you for doing this ❤
I love this song! Great reaction as always❤.
I have adored this song since I was about 13 and yet, somehow, it hit me deeper this time seeing you react to it! Thank you!
her voice is just so haunting that it gives you chills
Amy lee is amazing shes jusy as lovely to listen too as to look at.
This song always gives me goosebumps. Great vid BP. Have a good one!!
Love this song and video she has a voice like heaven ❤️
Evanescence is brilliant!! I could listen to them FOREVER!! Thank you for providing me with so many wonderful memories. A few tragic ones as well.
In High School after my dad died, this song got me through a lot. As an adult and actually listening to all the lyrics now, it seems like it was towards a significant other, but in high school after my dad's death i only heard certain parts of the song.
Love this ❤️🔥
Because she loved him so deeply like a person loves their child she loved her person and it was so deep that if he got injured she felt it
Damn, this song always makes me 😭 great reaction BP
It's sad, because I listened to this song a lot when I was younger... and I never realized this happened to me. I fell in love with a guy and I lost him and I couldn't forget him for a very long time.
They were huge during my childhood. 20 years ago... Sheesh.. One of the band that lead me to metal music. I relisten to their discography this summer and it is still as solid as ever.
Hi mate astralia talking to you am 70 this year just love you stuff thanks you just made my day thank
Bring me to life..excellent video o that one too.
Love this song... makes me cry whenever I hear it
When I was younger I thought it was about a breakup, but ever since my sister died in July, I listen to this song in a whole new way.
Her voice is angelic
For real.
Amy Lee's voice is so hauntingly beautiful. LOVE HER!!
This song has always been a very powerful song to me. It speaks to me still twenty years later. It brings back a lot of memories.
So.. The drummer in this band at this time of the video is Rocky. He was in Living Sacrifice; a heavy metal band and he was a lead guitar player. Check out the album "The Hammering Process."
I love Evanescence. Her voice is amazing. She does an amazing duet with Lizzy Hale called " Break in" you should check out
Love evanescence you should dig deeper. This makes me cry every time
