Ann and Nancy Wilson are just flat out KILLERS in the music world. Sister Princesses of Rock!! Nancy sounds almost like Ann, Ann just has a much fuller sound tone and....POWER. Ann is one of the greatest female rock voices of all time! EVERYONE was obsessed with her voice....so you are in great company. Slow? "Dog and Butterfly", Dreamboat Annie", "These Dreams" (Which has Nancy singing lead and Ann doing one of the coolest foreshadowing I've ever heard.) Loved that man! For overall singing chops "Minstral Wing"
I'm so flippin happy you're freaking out over Heart. Yes someone mentioned a live stripped version that is a must see. It's like Ann never ages and her voice is always amazing.
Those of us who are fans of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts would like a word. Whilst Heart technically was formed 2 years before the Runaways (come Blackhearts) there was never a time when Heart was an all female band. I love Heart, but as kick ass lady bands go, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts have to be given their flowers.
Good call, that album is great also ..I have 2 vinyl copies and I just bought the cd a few weeks ago for a more convenient way to listen to it in more of classic way other than on line digital streaming ..
This song might technically be a cover but no one had ever heard it until Heart recorded it, so to most this is the "original" and certainly the definitive version of the song. I almost choked when I heard Celine Dion was going to cover it because to me it just doesn't work sung by an easy listening artist like her. What made it great was being recorded by a rock band and the bombastic-ness of it. And no matter how good Celine's voice may be technically, her version sounds sterile next to this. I've never heard so much emotion crammed into lyrics as Ann Wilson does here. Great choice!
To truly appreciate her voice, you must hear "Mistral Wind". Her voice is hauntingly beautiful in this song. While it isn't one of their most famous, it is one of their most beautiful.
The tone and theme of the song seems relatable: someone you know pretty well but secretly have strong romantic or sexual feelings for but they only know you as a friend or maybe just an acquaintance and you finally get a chance (and the nerve) to tell them and risk it all -- either your dream will come true or you will permanently ruin your cherished friendship. You build up the courage but then something unexpected happens and you are among others again -- and don't have that private moment you had planned on after all. 😔
I agree with other posters that "Dog and Butterfly" and "Dreamboat Annie" are choice, soft-and-lovely Heart songs, but I'll add in "Love Alive" from 1977 that goes from very soft to much bolder brilliantly.
She sounds just as good in person I've seen them in concert and they're unreal!!! If you haven't checked it out yet review her performance of stairway to heaven at the kennedy center honors, every time I hear it I get goosebumps
Hands down the best cover of Stairway to Heaven ever made. Imagine standing in front of all those celebrities and famous people (incl. the Obamas) not to mention the pressure of performing in front of Led Zeppelin (minus Bonzo.. but they had his son playing the drums). If SalvoG reacts/reviews it I really hope he use the full version of the performance and not the edited one that cuts our 1/3 of the song which was a travesty to both the song and their performance.
Ann Wilson is a GREAT vocal obsession to have!! Can't go wrong with anything Heart has done over their very prolific career! Only a couple 'pure' ballads to speak of: Dreamboat Annie (from self titled album - all of which you should check!), (Love Me Like Music) I'll Be Your Song (also from Dreamboat Annie), Dog & Butterfly, BUT if you want a true melodious piece, of a slower tempo, I'd suggest Sylvan Song/Dream Of The Archer, from their second album, Little Queen (Barracuda is on this) Nancy Wilson on mandolin & acoustic guitar, & Ann, in absolute siren mode vocals!! Alone was probably my first intro to Heart as my sister had it on a mixed tape (yes, I'm dating myself!) Have always LOVED this piece. Ann's vocals are second to none. One of the ultimate 80's power ballads!! Other notable tracks to check: Crazy On You (again, from Dreamboat Annie), Never, If Looks Could Kill, Heartless, Mistral Wind, These Dreams, All I Wanna Do (Is Make Love To You)...for starters!
For slow Heart, I highly recommend Dreamboat Annie and Dog and Butterfly (the songs). The whole albums are worthy of a listen. Love that you are reacting to Heart!
The Wilson sisters are a force of nature. Ann has one of the best female rock voices of all time. Just sensational. She still sounds amazing in her 70s. And the sister harmonies are something special. If you want something soft, Dreamboat Annie or Dog and Butterfly. What you were hearing with Ann where there were those little notes...grace notes. Steve Perry also slips them in all over the place; only the very best singers can do that.
Ann & Nancy sound so *undeniable* on this that I can still listen to it despite it desperately needing a less '80s production to do it justice. One of the very best power ballads, songwriting & vocals -wise. Great to see a young'un like yourself enjoying discovering Heart. :)
For slow Heart songs I recommend, "These Dreams." Nancy sings lead on this one and you will see she has a very nice voice as well. Similar to Anns without all the power. I recommend this version because it's actually a live version from later in their careers. th-cam.com/video/0DLeH2FWFTE/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=HeartVEVO "What about Love" is slow too but a bit more up tempo and powerful. Your almost always going to get POWERFUL singing in any of their songs. "Straight on for you" is slow. "All I want to do is make love to you" is slowish. So glad that you decided to look at some of their later hits as well. As I said, they were actually a much bigger band during this period than the earlier period. Your "kinda Obsessed with her voice." Well dam dude, about time you joined 90% of the male population. LOL. And they are not exactly hard on the eyes either. Even though they are now in their 70's, they still look dam good to me. Nancy is just plain stunning looking. She was married to movie producer Cameron Crow for about a decade I think. And he made the Very good Rock Movie about a struggling rock band, their groupies and Cameron Crow's actual story of when he was a teen trying to be a writer for Rolling Stone magazine Called "Almost Famous." Nancy was responsible for the soundtrack. Excellent movie you should check out.
Early Heart is much better for slow songs. This later ""pop" version of Heart has some great music but is so pop-focused it loses some depth. These Dreams is fine, but it doesn't compare to Dog and Butterfly, in my opinion anyway.
The live acoustic version of this from the Live in Seattle DVD is absolutely incredible -- just Ann and Nancy and acoustic guitar. The vocals and harmony just gve you chills!
Check out the stripped down live, acoustic performance of this from Alive in Seattle (same show you saw Black Dog). I'm a huge Heart fan. You need to have a Heart day with a live stream or something. Would love to chat with you during it on discord even,. Have been to many shows and met them several times over the years as I live near Seattle. Loving watching you dig into and enjoy my favorite band.
I went to see April Wine in 1975 and Heart was the cover band. What a awesome concert it was. Loved Heart ever since. Glad you are enjoying the music I grew up on.
I've been a Heart fan since I first heard them in the '70s, but it wasn't until the '80s when they were on tour with this album that I was able to see them in concert. I was attending the University of Iowa and they played at the Carver Hawkeye basketball arena and filled the place. I painted a giant sign on a bed-sheet that read "We ❤ Heart!". My friend and I were mid-way back in the crowd, but Ann Wilson called out to acknowledge the sign from the stage. It was a highlight of my concert going experiences for sure.
I had the pleasure of attending my first rock concert in 1982 and it was Heart on their "Private Auditions" tour. Talk about one heck of a group. Ann and Nancy are both beautiful and can rock as hard any anyone. Ann's voice is unreal in her range and Nancy is no slouch either. Their encore was Led Zeppelin of course.
I adore Annie Wilson’s voice, but Nancy’s voice is also pretty damned amazing. (These Dreams) is a great example of that, and you should listen to that. Nancy is so multi talented, and a tremendous guitarist. Annie certainly gives Heart their signature sound and many say she’s unmatched as a female rock vocalist, but I’m definitely on the Nancy bus. ♥️✌🏼😎
Yes, they sound so beautiful together. I've seen them twice and even though Ann was in her 50s, she killed it. Need to watch Led Zeppelin Honor where Heart does Stairway to heaven. ❤
Among the many things you can say about Heart, they may be the only band that goes out of their way to have the crowd watching somebody other than the guy playing the guitar solo. 😄 I've loved this band for decades, and this may be my favorite song of theirs.
I think on the studio recording, there is a video with Grace Slick singing back up with Ann, with this most amazed face when Ann lets loose with those high notes.
yes!! this is, imo, the best version of this song ever. the drums are just perfection and the vocals are…well it’s Heart so there really isn’t much to say that hasn’t been said already lol I saw someone else recommend These Dreams and I couldn’t agree more. it’s a slow ballad and I know you’ll love it ❤️
Heart had their huge break in 1977 or so. Their sales started to dip in early 80’s, so the corporate suits reinvented them into the power ballad/hair band image and totally “sexed up” their image…with the big hair, the leather, their “come hither” expressions, and their moves. MTV had a huge influence on music, making the image as important as the actual music Both sisters HATED it and Ann especially was traumatized by it and suffered burn out. When Heart came back , it was a return to their original look….just being themselves and that continued until fairly recent times. The sisters had a falling out several years ago…I don’t know if the rift has been repaired. They have done some solo work. Ann is now 73 so don’t how much more we can expect her to be performing
I remember when this video came out, and all the talk was about how it was filmed with pretty much only face shots of Ann because of her weight gain. Seeing it again all these years later, it sure looks like it’s strategically filmed. Whatever….she has THE best voice in rock
One of my all time favorites! There is one part that simultaneously drives me nuts and blows me away- the pause before she starts singing the second chorus. It drives me crazy in an OCD way because I'm expecting the chorus to start. But it blows me away because of that insane vocal belt she does before she starts the chorus! It still gives me goosebumps after 35 years! Floor Jansen also has an incredible acoustic version of this song.
Dog & Butterfly is the softer song you want. Crazy On You is another of their rock songs from early that you need to check out. And yes, that is Ann. & Nancy singing together. Nancy also has a good voice, but when your sister is Ann Wilson...well, you’re in 2nd place. There are songs that Nancy takes lead on.
If you're up for another Heart cover of Led Zeppelin, you should check out their performance of Battle of Evermore in 1995 for the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
If you want a slow song, I would recommend 'Song of the Archer' or 'How Deep it Goes' or 'Love Alive' or the Live in Seattle version of 'Crazy on You' hope this helps. Welcome to the world of goosebumps and chills courtesy of Ann.
When anyone asks me what my favorite instrument is, my answer is always Ann Wilson.
I lived the 80's THIS was Equality. Women were legends.
Heart was part of that
If her voice makes you melt join the millions who feel the same
my neighbors called - "Play it again and crank it this time" , these women are Rock Goddeses
i feel personally that this masterpiece is Ann's greatest gift to the masses....I THANK GOD FOR ANN AND NANCY WILSON
Slow? “Mistral Wind.”
Great video and beautiful song !! Heart is awesome !!
I'm so flippin happy you're freaking out over Heart. Yes someone mentioned a live stripped version that is a must see. It's like Ann never ages and her voice is always amazing.
LOVED THIS BAND FROM THE BEGINNING AND STILL TODAY AT 74YEARS OLD. BEAUTIFUL SISTERS
One of the greatest voices in Rock.. regardless of sex!!!
The is the most kickass lady band, ever!
@@tlgarrison8433 You make a cogent point!
"Dog and Butterfly" is what you need to hear. Being obsessed with Anne's voice, this song will make you melt. Straight out acoustic, beautiful song.
forgot all about this song, this was my favorite also.
Good call, that album is great also ..I have 2 vinyl copies and I just bought the cd a few weeks ago for a more convenient way to listen to it in more of classic way other than on line digital streaming ..
That is the most beautiful Heart song. And the album includes their throbbing hit "Straight On" too.
Salvog already reacted to Dog and Butterfly 10 months ago
@@JUSSYSMA lol, my message was 1 year ago. 😁
Her voice has always been amazing actually both of them
What is crazy about Heart is that Ann & Nancy are so good - it is easy to not hear how good the band is behind them. #RockRoyalty
Her voice gets me man, so god damn beautiful
Yes. It is both of them at the same time. Not double tracked. Nancy Wilson, the blonde, also had a wonderful voice. She sang lead on These Dreams
"Errrr rewind"...That was 😂😂😂. ❤❤❤❤Love this one too. HEART is the best Live concert I have ever been to in my life, and I've seen Led Zeppelin Live❤.
I've been obsessed with her voice for 40+ years. An amazing singer.
"These Dreams" will give you both a mostly-mellow song AND a highlight of Nancy singing lead.
Magic Man!
Obsessed with her voice, huh? Welcome to the club. Ann Wilson is the embodiment of a siren.
This song might technically be a cover but no one had ever heard it until Heart recorded it, so to most this is the "original" and certainly the definitive version of the song. Agree. Heart made this song good.

Slow Heart song....... The dog and the butterfly. Simply beautiful!
"Blow the doors off" much like the the phrase "Shut the front door" just more convincing. I'm their era. 🤪
They are truly wonderful! Can't wait for new live Zeppelin reactions! Her voice! Yes Ann is lead and Nancy is harmony.
I agree with other posters that "Dog and Butterfly" and "Dreamboat Annie" are choice, soft-and-lovely Heart songs, but I'll add in "Love Alive" from 1977 that goes from very soft to much bolder brilliantly.

That performance is like a religious experience!
Their are 2 strong women singing. One of them also playing guitar.
I've seen them too. Back in 2009 in Memphis. Amazing.
Ann Wilson is a GREAT vocal obsession to have!! Can't go wrong with anything Heart has done over their very prolific career! My fave ♥ song!
Yes it’s both,Nancy always harmonized very well with Ann.
For slow Heart, I highly recommend Dreamboat Annie and Dog and Butterfly (the songs). The whole albums are worthy of a listen. Love that you are reacting to Heart!
The build of this power ballad is jaw dropping. When she unleashes her voice it still knocks me to the wall
Everybody loves Ann's voice!!!!
Nancy Wilson hits a vocal power chord in this one. pure power
Check out Mistral Wind from their Dog & Butterfly album. It's an epic ride!
The best track Heart has ever laid down.
one of their epics is a slow burner called Mistral Wind.
My favorite band of all time..I saw them recently and they haven't missed a beat! Thank you..I am so happy they are getting some love!

My fav song from that era 🥰🥰 tks ultimate power ballet is 😊

I can see it so much watching the video now. It's kinda infuriating. But like you said .....her voice is the BEST!
Love Heart! Was lucky enough to see them in concert in the 80,s a few times! Amazing voice! ❤️
Awesome band... takes me back when musicians were so talented!!!☺️☺️❤️❤️
I saw them in 2009 here in Memphis. They are just as great live. The concert was packed. They saved Magic Man for last. Love the sisters.
My favourite Heart song. I could watch Nancy rock out all day.
I love Heart so much. One of my favorite albums is The Road Home live and acoustic!❤
Saw them in concert in the 80s. Awesome live.
from the day Dreamboat Annie came out they were one of may favorite bands and a MAJOR crush for me... I was 15 when Magic Man hit the radio...wow
One of the best vocal performances.
One of my all time favorites! There is one part that simultaneously drives me nuts and blows me away- the pause before she starts singing the second chorus. The live version of this song with only them both at Seattle in 2002 is PERFECTION
I suggest you to watch it whether on reaction or by yourself ;)
I have been obsessed with Heart for a long long time
I remember how awesome this sounded live when I saw them in 87.
"I Love You" from Brigade. A must listen and Ann's vocals are unreal. Has a bit of a Beatle-esque sound to it. Great album track
Brigade in general I find is such an underrated album. I Love You is so good.
My favorate song of them. Very COOL 80s female rock band.
There is an acoustic version they did of this many years later when Ann was in her mid sixty's.
I love how much you love Heart! Soundtrack of my teens.
Ann's eyes are like daggers, I feel like she is looking into my soul.
Love your reaction to her voice
Check out Nancy singing lead on 'Stranded' or 'There's the Girl' or 'These Dreams'
I am celebrating a 46 year crush on Ann Wilson.
me and my mom used to scream this song in the car, absolutely love it!
One of my all time favourite songs.
I know exactly what you are talking about when you say you have to rewind some parts. It really let's us know you are interested in learning. Love it
I LOVE this song!!!
Loved them !!!!
Their first album had both slow and hard rock songs. Dream boat Anne was the lp.
Truly fantastic times..🎉
If you're up for another Heart cover of Led Zeppelin, you should check out their performance of Battle of Evermore in 1995 for the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
I have never heard Celine's version... i have only heard this version back in '87 and it was a huge hit during my freshman year in college.
Heart is a sister team. Awesome ladies
I saw them live amazing!!!
If you want a slow song, I would recommend 'Song of the Archer' or 'How Deep it Goes' or 'Love Alive' or the Live in Seattle version of 'Crazy on You' hope this helps. Welcome to the world of goosebumps and chills courtesy of Ann.
Freakin fantastic!!!!
Yeah, it's both of them. Ann has pipes too!
All these years of loving this (my favourite Heart track) and I never realised it's a cover! :-o
I love this song. I like your reactions.
My favorite of theirs ❤️
These Dreams is a ballet, they also did a TRIBUTE TO LED ZEPPLIN song STAIR WAY TO HEAVEN as they watched on awesome tribute.
This time frame Ann was at her vocal peak. She was always great. But in the time frame she was special.
For more about that voice, please, please, go back to earlier Heart. For instance Dreamboat Annie (whole album), Dog and Butterfly (the song).
Great slow songs by Heart: Dog And Butterfly, Steamboat Annie.
Dreamboat Annie
A couple of their great '80s hits are "Never" and "What about Love"
