    There should also be a video about Mike Piwowar doing Switch FS Flip down Hollywood High 16, and still not even being turned officially Am, as that trick being the ender in a Blind “Am” video.

    I blame the internet. There are only a handful of board companies left that have any kind of identity it feels like to me.
    I often wonder if the internet/ social media era of skateboarding just popped the bubble of ‘the club’ of elite skaters. More exposure for dudes who super good like pro level of skating for people who just didn’t have the means to break into the industry because they didn’t have the connections.
    Talent these days seems to get washed away by the endless river of epic skateboarding on an instagram feed where back in the day you’d wait months for a team video you’d pick up at a skate shop on vhs and share it with the homies.

    Micky is THE most underrated skater in my opinion. I honestly don’t know why because it’s not like he has a bad style or whatever (like people use as argument with Jeff Dechesare). Micky has done some crazy tricks along the years I remember I once saw I clip of him doing treflip fs smith flip out on a bump to ledge just mind boggling

      I used to wonder the same thing, similar to Decenzo. From what I gathered it’s because they dress like it’s “2008” and haven’t moved with the times. I get that being trendy is overrated but sometimes still dressing like you’re 16-18 doesn’t make you marketable. Also if you listen to “the bunt” Canadian skateboarding podcast, they aren’t fans of Micky either, which is rare being that he’s their fellow Canadian brethren. Just some food for thought.

    • @Thisisdarkdata
      @Thisisdarkdata ปีที่แล้ว

      Style is a scale of 1 to 10. Jeffwon song being a 1 and Shane Oneill/Dylan Jaeb/Miles Silvas being a 10. Micky’s style isn’t bad, bad 1 is 1-4 I’d say, Mickys is like a 6, its just above average so he kinda just gets lost in the shuffle where the skate industry is obsessed with dudes that have 8,9 and 10 style because kids want to skate like them which = easier marketability for their brands. That’s basically the jist of it.

    Blind had an interesting direction, it didn’t necessarily have a vibe but it was a super team in its own right. Ronnie Creager was a tech legend, Kris Markovich was an amazing artist and skateboarder, Jake Duncombe can do anything, Carlos Ruiz part speaks for itself, James Craig killed it & had a song by Murs made for his part personally….I can go on but everyone had something special.

    THE BOTTOM LINE from the LLC: They screwed around with what was working, reduced the number of the smaller companies under one parent company, which reduced the variety of products being produced, alienated and lost most of their team riders, oh, and they fired Bill Weiss and took control of Madness Skateboards - but don’t worry, this makes everything better, promise (sarcastic)! 😳👍(All true)

    • @PGStudios-wt3fp
      @PGStudios-wt3fp ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So to be fair it couldn't have been working too well if the company was sold for only 1.5m. but that being said, they should've bothered to learn the culture if they wanted to enter the skateboarding world. Obviously anyone who actually skateboards wouldn't see that as a cool thing to do. And skateboarders are very passionate and protective of the sport. Someone coming in and messing up things like this was never going to go over well. I'd be surprised if they don't sell the company again because now it's less of an asset and more of a liability after they pulled that.

    I've been around skating since 87, trust me dude, its NOT going to die EVER! I wish it would because then the parks would be empty! I miss the days of only like 20 people skating in my entire town. I was the only skate in grade school until high school. I started when skating died again in the 80s, and when it died again in the early 90s. Those were different times when everyone hated skating even kids my age. People yelling shit at me out their window, parents wanting me to quit, friends wanting me to quit. Seriously you all don't know what it was like! If you skated then you were like a drop out punk loser to the world. Look how its not like that now! BTW did you know that Wiess, Loui and Co started Sidewalk Distribution? I think if there was more advertising targeting non skaters it would really help make the industry boom again. Because skaters supporting other skaters is not enough. We need non skaters to support skaters. A good way to do this would be to have more skateboarding events like SLS and xgames around the world and advertise more. Show people how amazing skateboarding is and how entertaining it is to watch it. For pro skaters to make a living we need skateboarding to be more mainstream and more like other sports. Where we can have competitors where thousands of people come to watch in a stadium. SLS competitions and Xgames competitions used to be that way i don’t know what changed.

They currently have a great team & products. Ofcourse this includes bones. Yeah, bones & minilogo & the whole bones brigade deal are all part of powell peralta for whoever dont realize that. Whenever an art (and in this context skating counts) is having a crisis of monetization I wonder how bad of a thing it is. I don't think selling out is necessarily a bad thing but it certainly is way that authentic art becomes compromised.
    The vast, vast majority of skaters lose money on the hobby and keep doing it because it's something they enjoy. That won't stop.
    It's an olympic event now as well. That will always leave the door open to the greatest skaters at the time to make a living doing so. There are a lot of sports and art that isn't hugely profitable.
    We live in a capitalist society so people losing revenue who aren't already super rich is absolutely a bummer and my heart goes out to all the skaters struggling in a society that doesn't value personal growth and expression. But skating as an art and a sport and a hobby isn't going to be too hurt.

    I absolutely love video days. For me tho, that’s the only appealing thing blind has ever done in my eyes tho. I’ve never seen anyone in person riding a blind board, and I’ve never seen my local shop or the local zumiez stock blind boards. I can see why blind was big back in the day, but even having big names on the company wasn’t enough to follow them. Sad to hear knowing they are an og brand with some of the most iconic graphics, but I think we all saw this coming.

      Blind was big deal when they came out just because of Gonz and that video. It was still cool until around 93 when Girl started. Blind was nothing after that, after Gonz left it died. I wish they would just retire the company along time ago. We have Krooked now which is pretty much the same company but on Deluxe now and for sometime now.

    Let's not forget Rodney Vs. Daewon Round 1 and 2, the BLIND team have some really good parts in those videos. That was Blind for me. I noticed the skate industry feeling weird when I was managing a skate shop in Hollywood, CA. New brands popping up and pro's leaving their sponsors to star their own. Now Dwindle, I use to skate only Dwindle but on the hunt for something else to skate. I'm not gonna stop skating just not gonna skate dwindle

    Skateboarding will always survive. The skate industry as we know it will not.
    The woodshops used to only sell to major skate companies who could put in a big order. Then they started dealing with skateshops that could order reasonable sized orders. Now they sell to anyone. The market is over saturated and it shows.

    Blind should have turned Yuto pro immediately and gave him anything he wanted. A move like that would have been a wise investment for sales. Instead they let April Skateboard take him and of course they have the good sense to turn him pro pronto. Reminds me of when Powell had Danny Way for years but yet did not turn him pro, even though he was better than half of the old Bones Brigade. As soon as Way left Powell, H-Street put out his first pro board within seconds.

    While it can be depressing to see that this may very well be the next state in the skate industry, I for one if I ever do get sponsored I'd prefer to stick to the bitter end. I understand that everyone has their reasons for leaving and such but to me, I prefer loyalty above all. I hold nothing against those that leave and have their own path, but companies must find the better way to do things.
