I see myself quite clearly at the start. Hardly recognise myself but brings back tingles to see it. I remember the tension in the air as we waited for the gun, the only noise the helicopter circulating over head then the sudden burst of speed by Paula Radcliffe as she burst from the line and sped off to run every mile about a minute quicker than me!
I loved watching you all run .when I was 13 I used to run x country in sch and county in snowdonia we’re I’m from and I did 2 and a half miles over mountains beaches sand dunes in 14 minutes I was ridiculously fast yet no one was abt to help with my talent and I was so dyslexic in school my pe teacher classed me as naughty and totally ignored me during training yet come the county racing she would want me to run and I’d refuse.I’d go off with another young girl from another school and tell race organisers I was from her school as my pe teacher wanted my school in the papers as I won everything I was totally unbeatable at the time,my pe teacher was furious but I asked her to stop banning me from pe then and I’d run under my own school name yet she wouldn’t.I was spotted buy a talent scout and iv no idea what she said to her coz I never saw her again..teachers back then didn’t have a clue and I was a talent lost . The miles I racked up as a child were immense , I suppose I was more of a mountain runner so when it came to flat road racing I found it so easy 😊I adored running and still do.. can you tell I’m still annoyed at my teacher 😂
@@maxcook6823 What a shame your talent wasn't allowed to flourish in the sport but I am glad you loved running, as that is the most important thing. Many of our top athletes were encouraged in to the sport by their PE teachers (like Mo Farah for instance), so it is a matter of luck if you get a supportive one or not! Some athletes did well despite the authorities, not because of them. John Tarrant springs to mind. I am from Hereford and I ran with a man who knew The Ghost Runner and how he was banned from racing for owing up to the fact he'd been paid a few quid to box!

Young guy from Ethiopia Tsegaye Mekonnen at 18 years old in 2013/2014 did better than Paula Radcliffe he got like 2 hours and 4 minutes and Radcliffe at 29 years old got around 2 hours and 15 minutes!
