  • Hi friends! In today's video, I take you with me through my first week of classes at the start of the fall 2021 semester. As a disabled student, the first week of classes is when all of the problems come up. I hope seeing the types of problems that can happen and how I navigate them can help you prepare for starting college.
For me at my college, these problems tend to be mild and are always resolved relatively quickly and easily, but this is not the case for everyone. I highly recommend researching each school's disability office thoroughly before committing to a college if you are able to choose what college you go to. Your experience might be dramatically different than mine (better or worse). I've heard horror stories from my friends at different schools, and I've also heard stories from friends at some schools that seem better than mine. This is to say that my video isn't telling you definitively what your college experience will be like, but it is giving you an insight into mine, which can hopefully help some!
In this video, I talk about problems including access issues, getting accessible textbooks, registering my classes with the campus disability office, scheduling accommodated exams, dealing with professors who "hate dogs," and more. The start of a new semester (even senior year!) can bring about a lot of new accessibility challenges when you have a disability.
Also, I know that the camera was not always on my face. I was doing my best! I can't see the viewfinder.
