Nice work Gerard, they call them flank sockets over here, same idea thought.... I like to heat the other side of the bolt red hot before using the twist sockets, but understood that's not always possible.... brilliant video as usual mate....
Wow. . I cannot believe I never considered such a thing might exist. I've had to improvise to get a few bolts out in similar situations a handful of times. my go to method has been to figure out how to get a slot into the head then use my impact driver to loosen it. Thank you so much for sharing! I'm going to keep those in mind to purchase at some point in the future. generally I only buy a tool I need at the time, so it'll probably be in a few weeks when I get under my truck to start fixing the stuff hidden under the road-salt rust :P
I’ve the same extraction set they got me out of many a hole👍 if you have any key board warriors bitching over hitting the long extension with a hammer tell them you have another 10 in the tool chest to replace it. Cheers Ger.
Thanks for making this cool video. You get the right tools, you can do the impossible huh? I showed this video to my body shop boss. We got those sockets ordered on the way.
Nice! I have them too; but only the 3/8 drive sockets. I don't use them a lot, but I definitely would prefer the 1/2" ones. Wow, that 9mm and 11mm size are rare when it comes to finding bolt heads that size. I appreciate your video. Thank you sir.
Cool sockets. I'd like to get a set... Not being critical here, but I've had better luck using an electric impact to unstick stubborn bolts and nuts. Doing it by hand and using leverage, such as with a breaker bar, I tend to break stuff and get bloody knuckles.
Can’t get the coolant drain plug on the block of my e36 out hope this works shits in a tight space next to the headers too ducking bmw couldn’t put it on the driver side where there’s a shit ton of room🤦🏿♂️
I felt it would help a lot of people, I also went to many years not knowing about these and using other slower, more difficult methods to remove. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Could have been aided further with the addition of a liquid penetrant for the bolt-head...as a pre-step.....no ? The set you show looks nice and seems to be a valuable set to have.
Excellent video. I have extremely rusted bolts (flaking bolt heads) on a brake calliper fitting which cannot be accessed with a socket. Is there a spanner version to this tool?
Thanks John, Not that I am aware of, there are spanner versions that grip rounded heads but nothing that I have seen would work on this type. There may be something on the market though that could work for you 🙏🙏🤞🤞
Arrrgh I've got one of these but I don't have enough space to swing a hammer at all. It's reaaaaally tight for space in there. It's the top bolt on a 2009 Fusion 1.4 diesel starter motor (same as the fiesta diesels). It's completely rounded and I've been at it for 2 days trying to get it off. Just not enough space to get a good whack on the socket! I can only tap it with a spanner or something slim but it's not enough to force it on
Good for you.. :-) On my car there are two seriously corroded bolts, at the rear shock absorbers. No place for action. I thought the only method was sawing.. I have to get a fancy reciprocating saw.. Life is hard.. :-)
I have a battery tray in my '70 Buick with three smaller bolts, all of which have rounded heads and resemble these in terms of rust - mostly from years of sitting underneath a battery. Acid is a killer for metal, clearly. I just PB Blasted the hell out of them yesterday and will let them soak until next weekend. My friend let me borrow his extractor set (similar to yours) and I'll be having at it next weekend. Did you soak these bolts at all before filming? I didn't see any remnants of lubricant.
Thanks for video...just subscribed, have 1 bugga of bolt on my EGR housing , i have to take off to clean out!! and its rounded, so will try these ! only thing is its an 8mm, and im not sure if i have to go down to smaller..is in kit...will have a look!!thanks fro great info tho !! ;)
@@GerardBurkeBurkesGarage wow didnt realise so expensive, and no work/cash at mo, popped up local garage...LENT me an 8mm....to PROMISE id return it...2 go's & noooo.....almost had me in tears...by then !! bloody awkward place to put a bolt on an engine!!! couldnt hammer it on....took deep breathe...3rd time lucky...and the bugger came off....and then the nightmare gunk WOW , but hey its clean now...ready to go back on!! gave the fellas at garage a 'virtual hug' & know what im saving up for !!! cheers mr ! :)
They are a great job!! Never seen or heard of them before! God that bumper bar was ate!! What do u make of bergen tools in general? They seem great value for their quality.
I agree, good value for money on them tools. I tend to only buy one off tools or solid type tools in cheaper brands. Electric, ratchets pliers/vise grips etc.. I pay the premium money for long lasting quality in those types.
I agree the kits should be complete, I do not like kits that skip in sockets or spanners as there will always be a need at some stage for it (even though full kits are more expensive). Unfortunately this was not an option when I was buying the kit.
Not a cheap fix. Wanted to save some money by doing an oil change my self, and discovered that the bolt had been rounded out. Purchasing the kit would put me right about where it would have costed me all together to just have it taken in, and they'd most likely swap the bolt out for free.
So how much did they pay you to do this little video for a little socket people there twist socket they give you a bunch of tools or did they pay you well
Comment is a little hard to follow but to your main point, I got nothing, to this day I have never aligned with any company or reviewed any given items, I get them emails/messages all the time but I have not done any. I bought that kit when I lived in Oz and my father actually bought the other workshop set. I done the video as they are a useful tool to have when needed. I hope this clears it up for you.
It's making me so fucking mad. I already fucked up my hand and spent so much money on shit that I thought might work. It's driving me crazy how I'm getting my ass handed to me by a fucking nut.
Thanks for the reply, I found a large set with standard and metric sizes . should have them this week.
Your right, they are fantastic bits of kit !!!!! saves a lot of messing about.
Dam where was this parked under the sea 🌊⁉️
Legend has it, SpongeBob was the first owner and left it parked at bikini bottom.

Wow you do can learn a lot from TH-cam! Thanks for the tip, saves a lot of hassle drilling and retapping! Especially in tight places!
Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Great instructional video as always Gerard, i'm just about to buy a set of these so thanks for showing everyone how its done.
Thanks Derek
I've never seen those sockets before. There have been a pile if times I could have used them. I'm going to try to track some down,. Thanks--great vid!
I have them linked in the description if you have not found them yet. Thanks for watching.
Very handy tool set Gerard, especially when the bolts we're well out of reach to try grip them with a vice grips
I've just got my set. They're coming next week. Great video quality by the way, crystal clear. Thank you...
Awesome! Thank you! I appreciate the feedback 🙏

They don't know that extensions can also be punches :) I think it may say it on the box LOL
I probably have more than 10 as well now I think of it ;)
Brilliant video never heard of twist sockets.

Don't you just love the sound of a ratchet, it's just says so much in a man's hard work, listen to the beauty 🎶

Thanks for the kind words Rickey
Very informative Gerard, I have never seen this bit of kit before so will be on the web searching for one. Cheers from California, Meself.
Thanks Gerry. I have them linked in the description if you have not found them yet.

Thanks for tip not seen these before very handy
No problem, thanks for the comment
Definitely gonna buy me a set
Handy to have when needed Erik, thanks for watching 😊
These used with a impact driver is the ultimate solution
Will this work to remove spinning carriage bolt holding the engine mount?
Any suggestion for when you're really right for space please? I'm at a bolt on my brake caliper...
Please suggest a brand name for this type socket....
That's new to me. Love 'em mate. Very handy indeed. I've subscribed, good stuff.
Cheers Trevor, I hope ya keep stopping by with comments :)
Glad to. No worries mate
Great video. A worth while investment for my bmw E46.. 😂

you're welcome dude, I also found the screw removers too.
I have a snap-on set... love it!

Do these work under high torque? Like 80-90nm+?

do you have socket like this for Track Bolt ? with 1.5 inch drive
The rust on that is crazy for an Irish car lol I swear it drifted across the Atlantic! 😉
It might have Niamh :)

I’m wondering why no oil used to soak the threads? PB Blaster or WD40? I’m sure you have a reason.
Thank you for the video!

Followed you advice got the bolt out in seconds with copious amount of wd40 and bolt removal socket.
💪💪
Is the 40 necessary mate? Sometimes doesn't seem to work.
Maybe only with the Twist socket.

Hope you find a new crash bar for rear . Too scared to look at mine now after watching.
Are you going to keep type r for a while or sell on.
Gonna keep it for sure.
the bolt i need to remove know where near as bad ,it has given me heads up how to remove
Wtf your not supposed to steal then work on parts of the titanic? Lmao
The one I need to remove is way worse than these and the not removers are completely useless, any ideas?
Nut*
Both links skip 18 which is silly because there are also of 19 mm bolts on cars

Gerard Burke I see
Gerard Burke if there is one available maybe add it to your description. Affiliate revenue is nice and it’s just a few key strokes
@@viplegaleducation1292.
If I find one I will definitely put it in 👍👌
Didn't work with mine. Just gripped then spinned off.

But even at "same cost" basis.....you'd be in posession of the tool kit....for any further work like this you may have to do.... forever.
Using snap on ones and its not removing it the bolt with is passing me off lol
So how much did they pay you to do this little video for a little socket people there twist socket they give you a bunch of tools or did they pay you well

Why does it matter? Are you jealous how about you mind your own business and let him do his job and you do yours fucking hater
With my luck the bolt breaks off while turning
I need a 12mm long twist socket in 3/8 drive. Fucking impossible to find
It has to be a long socket because the bolt that the nut is on is so long I can't fit a regular length socket over the whole thing
It's making me so fucking mad. I already fucked up my hand and spent so much money on shit that I thought might work. It's driving me crazy how I'm getting my ass handed to me by a fucking nut.
Anyone know if those tools work with a stripped circular saw bolt?
