    Watching winter camping videos have become my latest relaxing past time. Idk why I find it so calming (little escape fr 3d matrix, I guess).
    This video different for me, because of the camper. I prefer the camper option, rather than building a shelter fr snow or wood. I still like to watch those, however I'm definitely a glamper. I'll keep watching this channel. Thx for sharing!

    Great experimental trip. I am mostly learning from you, so I do not expect to be teaching you, but just a thought: do think about left-right and front-back weight balance. I am sure you are contemplating this, but when you mentioned water and batteries on the right side, I thought that that could be quite heavy.

    Awesome! Your ladder could be a bit safer if you added a coupler stabilizer blocks for it to go between since you go up in the same spot to connect/disconnect you stove pipe. I realize the strap is suppose to prevent it kicking out but...eliminating any chance it goes sideways on you out there alone might be a nice add on.

    I would carry cans of spray windshield deicer fluid for the jacks (and anything else), that would eliminate the corrosive effects of rock salt, but might have other drawbacks to be aware of. I would also look at carrying pads to place under the jacks so they weren't resting on ice and snow. And a small whisk broom would sweep out ice and snow before it melted into muddy water inside your camper. Take a notepad, make notes.

    Back in the 1970s we camped for deer hunting for a week in NYS Adirondack mountains where night-time temperatures got down to 20 below F. He had an Apache fiberglass popup camping trailer. No insulation in the fiberglass extensions on each end for beds. We added some closed cell foam on the floor and sides which didn't help much. Condensation was a big problem. We had a small built in propane furnace which barely kept it warm. All the heat escaped when we opened the door. We worried about the nylon chain breaking in the cold or freezing up when lifting or lowering the roof. We had DC electric lights run off batteries which we charged daily with a homemade small gas engine and car generator (not an alternator). Storage was an issue and drying wet hunting clothes was impossible. It had a gas cook stove and sink and small refrigerator. It could sleep 4. We made do but it wasn't ideal for winter camping. Enclosing the bottom with plastic might have helped. A homesote vestibule where we could have a small wood stove might have helped with storage, heat, and drying clothes. We made one years later for a tent. We used it as a kitchen and lighted it with a low pressure regulated wall propane light. The main problem with camping with a 20 # propane tank for cooking and light is the tank doesn't have enough pressure at 20 below F. A 50 # tank is needed and transportation can become an issue. Connecting 2-3 20# tanks might be possible but we never tried it. Winter camping is challenging.

  • @Steadfastly7
    @Steadfastly7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Bring blocks of wood to put under the scissor jacks so they are above the ground so they don't freeze in the winter. The salt was a good idea but with the wood, there will be no waiting. Then you can knock the wood out with an axe or hammer and bring them back with you to use the next time.
