Activision's heavy-handed approach to SM2 is just another example of the divide in modern gaming: Developers and Players who view video games as entertainment and an art form, and Corporate Executives who view video games as an annual money printer. It honestly makes me hope for another gaming industry crash if it means every last one of these greedy SOBs that have turned modern games into soulless cashgrabs get smoked out.

Supporting groomers, being anti consumer, shutting down mods and projects, sexually harassing their own employees, publishing lower quality content that focuses solely on making more profit than previously, etc etc
I honestly hope treyarch makes their own game without activision being included because activision been screwing them up with them rush development for the games coming out and not letting the developers put quality into the game
Yet people buy so much in that lower quality content (microtransaction skins) they don't even bother with dlc anymore they make that much money off it. They win from cease and desisting community projects because that would take players and money away from their games. Seeing that this great game will never be released to the public depresses me. This was the only way to save Call Of Duty but Activision ruined it instead of working with the developers to release the game even if you had to pay to play it, I would pay anything to play this epic game.😔

Thanks to Microsoft, the matchmaking for the old games has been fixed + there are big discounts on the games. something like that would not have been possible with the old Activision... So Microsoft could repeal the lawsuit
if they just kept with making the game, eventually in the lawsuit, activision would be forced to show how bad the OG titles are, unsafe to play and evidence would be shown in court, that you cannot play them without personal information at risk. garuntee they could have won.

They should have leaked the game files anonymously. H2M (MW2 MP Remastered) recently got cease and desisted by Activision too, but since the game files were leaked and everybody was sharing them, they couldn't do shit about it. If we have the files, they have to work against thousands of unknown people. It basically makes their shit open source at that point.
SM2 using old cod assets was never going to work, and anyone who said that using assets would cause legal issues were banned and kicked out of sm2 discord by the sm2 devs as they always kept saying they had all legal issues handled. So I guess, its karma served on a platter with devs that stuck up with a stick up their ass...that they would ban people trying to warn them not to use cod assets

It's not about being naive, it's about doing what we meant to do even if there are obvious legal risks. There was literally no point coming at us saying "you're gonna be in trouble" because a) we knew and b) are we just supposed to close shop because someone told us to? The train was already gone and we weren't going to sabotage it. If it worked out, good, if it didn't, oh well. If everyone played by the rules, COD modding would not be a thing, and Activision wouldn't have to pull out three entire maps from MWII because they turned real life locations into shooting galleries without consulting anybody from there . Difference is they have enough weight and cash to "solve" this kind of problem. Nobody plays by the rules, so there's no need to be so hellbent about it and calling us naive because we gave the project a try. We've been in the COD modding scene for long enough to know the risks and I would need to use my toes to count the amount of C&Ds issued to clients that I've seen from my own eyes. Plenty of great games we have today exist because rules have been broken. Sometimes publishers see the potential and sometimes they don't and call their legal team, that's all there is to it. Also no, there was no scope creep. We were going to do what was exactly written on the can when our first website went live. The amount of content and things like full progression was something that was on the white board weeks before the sm² everybody knows started. The engine switch was made because of technical difficulties and reinventing complex systems, to the point where we were not working on the game but battling the engine constantly. We made a whole blog post about that. And you gotta explain clearly how you keep a COMMUNITY project "silent", I'm very interested lmao
