I will say, I think the 'value for points' is a decent measure if only because 2000 points for a default army is anywhere from 300 for space marines to approximately 1000 dollars for Sisters of Battle. If you can get 1000 'points' worth of minis for 300 bucks then you have a full army at 600 bucks more or less. It can create an obvious entry.
Kind of the reason that after 12 years in the hobby I still mostly play at 1000 and can only push 2k with one of my armies IF I include my 3d printed baneblade...
Very much this. 1000 points is considered beginner/small game point limit, so if these boxes are priced at $200 - $250 you could pick up the knight box and be done with that collection if you weren't interested in "full sized" games. As someone who is a little knight-curious I may do exactly that.

Underworlds does have a great deck building function if you have been playing and getting all the universal cards from the beginning. If you don't have so many universal cards then it's less appealing.
one takeaway from all the Christmas boxes is that you're local hobby store will end up putting them on sale depending on how well some sell. the orks box isnt gonna be worth it for 160 euros, but if the price drops to 140 then itll be worth picking it up.
Or you can be like my FLGS, which never gives discounts for Warhammer product. Indeed, I've seen multiple products collecting dust on their shelves _increase_ in price, proportionate to price increases from GW. (To be fair, it's probably that the owners have some bullshit deal with GW, that requires them to sell at MSRP). So they have THREE boxes of Eldritch Omens for $210 each, despite it having a vanishingly small number of models.
@Bluecho4 oof. My LGS doesn't raise prices on stock they got before a GW price increase, plus they have a discount on everything. If it's an Online Store exclusive, it's 15% off. Otherwise it's 30% off. In Store only.
18:04 I thought I was looking at Rackham AT-43 Karmans for a moment -- what a good game, yes I'm sad enough to still have it all and fond memories of playing it a lot.
I have been waiting for the Slaaneshi marines to have a good range of models since I first started collecting 40K back in 3rd edition, I am excited for this Also, if you dislike these Ratlings, there are many third-party proxies that can be used. Wargames Atlantic's Sneak Feet are a good option
Having recently gotten into the hype surrounding Bolt Action v3, and with my son bugging me to get into Napoleonic era wargames like Black Powder, I can say that the pricing of GW kits is not okay anymore. I love their games, I have sizable 40k and AoS collections, including a Slaves to Darkness army, and bought both the AoS3 and 4 launch boxes, but the current pricings are crippling and quite frankly, delusional. I'm *almost* done with GW at this point, so here's hoping that their prices will stabilise for more than two (preferably 7) years this time round! 😊
Out of the last 3 years of Christmas battle force boxes I have bought one- the Ossiarch Bonereapers box of 2023. I enjoying them being revealed, but because of the price and even more so the massive time investment I need to be picky. I probably only have time for one Christmas battleforce box over 3 years anyways
Kill Team is the only reason I buy GW minis anymore, and they've prices me out with the new boxes. Wargames Atlantic "Sneakfeet" are gooto be my ratling sniper team in a month or so.
Re: Spearhead - Technically, Stormcast and Skaven both have two Spearheads being produced at the same time, two of them are just locked behind the Ultimate Starter Set/Skaventide paywall.
Breaking Emperor's Children out of the generic Chaos/Black Legion book is only about 15 years overdue. As many have pointed out, it's probably terrible for the overall health of the game at this time, they won't release enough kits, they won't release enough copies of each kit so there will be a big shortage for the second wave, and I'm sure they'll probably make my Emperor's Children army that I've tinkered with since 4th edition completely useless by not giving me options that work for the way I've got it laid out. That said, some of the models they basically have to produce to release an army and credibly call it Emperor's Children are things I'd very much like to replace in my collection; better noise marines, chosen/champions, and it'd be great to get a faction specific fast attack choice to round it out. I'll probably just complete it for the hobby, and if it sees the table for a game it'll be some homebrew or alternate rule set.
The Tau battle force is very good for most Tau collectors. Most of us all ready have maxed out firewarriors, pathfinders and kroot. It's a surprisingly useful box and has great theme to boot.
Those Darkoath models are some of the worse miniatures GW have ever produced. I don't know how their faces are actually worse than the 1998 Marauders but here we are.
Yeah, evaluating the battleforces in term of points is a little sterile given it can change at any time..... But just counting the models, when there's a battleforce of Knights against two with lots of infatry is just as sterile ^^' If you really want to see how much discount the battleforce is, you look at the price tag, and the price tag of each box separately. Someone did that for all the boxes, with the previous year price tag for the batlle force (so we should probably expect 10-15$ less of a discount XD), every box is around 100-140$ discount. The big savings for 40K is the Knight and Dark Angels ones ^^
I agree on balance issue, but I disagree on factions. Honestly if they could keep up with them I don't think you can have too many. The more factions there are the less mirror matches. Plus Emp's children are one of the coolest factions that has ever been.
@@SashaS-s2z I agree, but that's a whole separate issue. There are so many. Its why I have moved to Infinity, Legion, and The Other Side. The Necrons are back in hibernation for the foreseeable future.

Its an alright game but they force you to buy new cards all the time so i quit. - I dont like Votann at all. - prices are disgusting
Sorry, DM, but I'm hard disagreeing with the "40K has too many factions" comment until the new Emperor's Children stuff is in my hands, I've waited too long for this and I refuse to be denied while Death Guard, Thousand Sons and World Eaters get to have their own dedicated armies - GW kept us Slaaneshi players waiting for the Hedonites in AoS and we've waited long enough for the Emperor's Children in 40K, give us Fulgrim and his merry band of sado-masochists already!
I think what she means is that GW products line and game rule are barely function. If they can't keep things going smooth now, add new factions only boost the mess.
I actually like the 40k Christmas boxes. They're not good if you want to upgrade your army, but let's say you want to stsrt a new army, or you got a Combat Patrol and you're looking for the next step, than these are awesome. The Tau One is basically everything you would actually want to play. The Necrons one is okay but the Ctan is an auto-include atm. The Dark Angels too. It's the new sculpts, the, look great and thesenare of the best units you'd want to field. And the Knights are a no Brainer. Get the Box and you have pretty much the best 1000 point list you can have with that army. And you can leave it at there as a nice side army to eventually play or lend to a friend or buy two boxes maybe ffor a full 2k army.
@@leeedward2574 yes, but no. Because it's a totally different hobby. The miniatures will last you years since you collect the army usually for a few years. @@M1tZk1 the problem is not on me. I'm already in this hobby. But it's way too difficult to bring new people in and keep them stay. GW keep making this harder.

Love your vids 14 mins in, you mean you prefer the previous sculptor for ratings. I see a few parts of the range where it's like the person doing it doesn't get the mood and emotion right even if the sculpts are cleanly done and crisp, they can feel emotionally flat. Of course these days we don't get to know who sculpted what so you never know who's your fav designer Lastly I don't think I'd consider the emperors children to be a new faction. It's good they're getting redone and given a proper codex rather than just subsisting as an option on general chaos space marines
I feel like the christmas boxes are more about bringing people to a new army. If the price is right ($200), I may get the tau one (just because I've always loved what they look like), and the knight one because i've been wanting to play them. If the boxes are $200, it's a decent deal comparing to current prices, both boxes I'm looking at are around $300-320 if bought separate. If the boxes are more than $200, it's only worth buying, if you want/need all models in it. When it's big models, you can only use so many of them.

GW, bring back the chaos rockers, praise be to the Noise Marines ! ! !
Is there an ork box?
@@cristhianmlr for aos the ironjaws box set. I'll pick it up if it goes on sale, not worth at full price
Still have a big UNA army myself. It's perfect for OPR.
@@brettmanus7904 Yep I use mine as proxies. The Cogs are harder to match with anything unless they're Tau battle suits
Metal head monsters are awesome. 2nd ef for life.
"You did it Lion, you finally experienced basic fucking empathy!" - Lion: Son of the Forest
Clonegrim loyalist Emperor’s Children? Probably not. But we’ll see them before GW remakes finecast in plastic or remember Catachans exist.
I have been waiting for the Slaaneshi marines to have a good range of models since I first started collecting 40K back in 3rd edition, I am excited for this
Also, if you dislike these Ratlings, there are many third-party proxies that can be used. Wargames Atlantic's Sneak Feet are a good option
I always enjoy these videos - you create some of the most entertaining GW content on TH-cam.
thanks Simon! :)
@@DiscourseMinis - you're more than welcome. Your videos are a gift to us all.
Honestly think the orcs look worse than the ratlings..
ok... great video ... love it.. but what's the music at 8:23 I NEED IT
BUSHIDO! YAY! There are other players in the world! Such a beautiful set of minis and fun skirmish rules. I would LOVE an RPG in their setting.
I imagine a lot more people would prefer that the Emperor's Children get released. Need is a strange word to be used in an entertainment IP.
People hate on SCE but their background is some of the most grim dark shit (as opposed to grimderp ala 40k) GW has written since the 90s
Kill Team is the only reason I buy GW minis anymore, and they've prices me out with the new boxes. Wargames Atlantic "Sneakfeet" are gooto be my ratling sniper team in a month or so.
"They tarmac your drive without permission" LOOOOOL
A 2nd Orruk Spearhead would be good, something with Ardboys.
Premptive praise: just seeing you drop mew vodeos made my day! Can't wait to watch
Now we save like 45$ per battleforce boxes. Oh and im done with the codexes. Ill play 10th till I die
Don't you want a decent edition?
I dunno, something about that Chaos Sorceror makes me think he's just OK.
Would've loved them without those goofy faces. 😢
Hateium
Yeah, evaluating the battleforces in term of points is a little sterile given it can change at any time..... But just counting the models, when there's a battleforce of Knights against two with lots of infatry is just as sterile ^^'
If you really want to see how much discount the battleforce is, you look at the price tag, and the price tag of each box separately.
In a normal game system, more factions is fine.
In a game that releases rules in separate hardcover books, it barely functions already.
@@SashaS-s2z I agree, but that's a whole separate issue. There are so many. Its why I have moved to Infinity, Legion, and The Other Side. The Necrons are back in hibernation for the foreseeable future.
i doubt they print new spearhead boxes, after the new one comes out. They just continue selling old stock
Yay, Labyrinth t-shirt
Whenever I field my Guard I use my metal Ratlings. I also got Victoria Miniatures' halfling snipers and I will get the new ones as well. That's 30 snipers! pew! pew! 🥳
GW been playing the song Big money, by that rogue trio from Canada. Well maybe you could run your own online campaign with sarcasm comedy, progressive rock music and a bunch of voice actors this would maybe solve your demonetisation problem.
Discourse made a HUGE Mistake
QWIK BAIT!
Click baiteyest dribble evahh
I agree with the statement that we don't need new factions but we need Emperor's children and I do think the army will suck in one way or another as most do.
I feel that Discourse has some antipathy towards England. I mean, what did England ever do to Ireland? /s
Wait what was the huge mistake? This all seems quite normal.
Normally huge mistakes. That's GW we're talking about.
if i lived in the arctic you would be able to sell me an ac unit.
Also what's wrong with Maggotkin, nothing but love for Papa Nurgle though the Pusgoyle Blightlords suck to build and transport.
Ramdom news:
- Really happy about Deathwatch! But still happy to have them in Agents faction now.
- Really happy about Emperor's Children.
- Really happy my Tyranids are playing well.
- love Mordheim
- love necromunda
- love the gaming community i have
- Hate GW
- Prefer the older ratlings i have
- Underworlds losing card art is crazy.
If we need 200 bucks can only start a barely playable faction, my friends would just go away and buy 3 great video games instead.
@@leeedward2574 yes, but no. Because it's a totally different hobby. The miniatures will last you years since you collect the army usually for a few years.
You can sell them with a mark up if they are painted well enough. Whereas games usually lose their value pretty fast and rarely people play the same game more than once.
@@M1tZk1 the problem is not on me. I'm already in this hobby. But it's way too difficult to bring new people in and keep them stay. GW keep making this harder.
Wait...the Killteam. Why would a dedicated anti-tank team against an infantry team?
that pirate had quite pretty eye makeup. must have been the one, "sultry" Thar Yaharr. 💕
The best channel to watch while I take dump.
Underworlds is fun, the issue is the cards. I want a way to buy specific singles outside of proxies
ohm don't want to rain on your parade but its the "loyal" symbol not the Chaos one. so it is a posible 30k releas
I doubt that, demon fulgrim already released for 30k. It’s going to be 40k emperors children.
I know the title is clickbait, but I can't help watching because you're really funny!
Your sense of humor is trash
Comment for the comment god.
A Day without GW stepping on their junk is like a day without sunshine.

Yeah the Orks look cool, and while I collect Orks, I will wait unless someone wants the ratlings then I'll go half, but I decided long ago to not be taken in by Fomo.
Love your vids
14 mins in, you mean you prefer the previous sculptor for ratings.
I see a few parts of the range where it's like the person doing it doesn't get the mood and emotion right even if the sculpts are cleanly done and crisp, they can feel emotionally flat.
Of course these days we don't get to know who sculpted what so you never know who's your fav designer
Lastly I don't think I'd consider the emperors children to be a new faction.
06:20 - well, just like the Primarchs!

I have been thinking about taking the Ork Kill Team into the Underhive as a xenos gang what are people’s thoughts about this?
I have enough of GW and their constant miniatures and rules removal for 40k. Good we have printers.
Discourse - Don't know if you have any contacts at GW... But if you do., you should tell them to ditch Amazon for the show. They will destroy the brand. Get funding elsewhere, let Cavil do his thing, and it will be one of the most successful shows in recent times. He will do the show justice. We in the states are worried about it. Amazon = 40K brand destruction
Highlight of the vid: halfling gypsy tarmac reference. 🧑🍳😘
"New" faction. Lightly supported, maybe. But hardly new. And just more OP chaos crud, imo.
The Darkoath spearhead looks good for the Old World.
Thank goodness that chaos sorcerer isn't inspired by the 7 UKpound-costing Frostgrave: Herald of the Red King which in fact I like much better and is in good old metal. But no complaining as they've rereleased their Chaos Ogres for WHYOW for a very decent 35 euro's... Kudo's GW!
I actually don't own Rhinos, but I could probably do with a couple. I'm still working through my pile of shame though so....
Okay, let's see what's going on with Warhammer today... oh. Yep, same garbage. C'mon Ultramarines, we're going to fight the Covenant in Xenos Rampant.
