I respectfully disagree. John was a rockstar, I think a rockstar should be a bit of a rebel, a contrarian who dare to challenge societies conventions. That doesn´t mean being a bully or something, it means you challenge the people in power. So I liked when John and the Beatles were a bit cocky towards journalists, because they were typically uninformed and condescending.

"Lennon's love of wordplay and nonsense with a twist found a wider audience when he was 24. Harry writes that In His Own Write (1964) was published after "Some journalist who was hanging around the Beatles came to me and I ended up showing him the stuff. They said, 'Write a book' and that's how the first one came about". Like the Daily Howl it contained a mix of formats including short stories, poetry, plays and drawings. One story, "Good Dog Nigel", tells the tale of "a happy dog, urinating on a lamp post, barking, wagging his tail - until he suddenly hears a message that he will be killed at three o'clock". The Times Literary Supplement considered the poems and stories "remarkable ... also very funny ... the nonsense runs on, words and images prompting one another in a chain of pure fantasy". Book Week reported, "This is nonsense writing, but one has only to review the literature of nonsense to see how well Lennon has brought it off. While some of his homonyms are gratuitous word play, many others have not only double meaning but a double edge." Lennon was not only surprised by the positive reception, but that the book was reviewed at all, and suggested that readers "took the book more seriously than I did myself. It just began as a laugh for me".
    Source: Wikipedia
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
"In His Own Write is a 1964 nonsense book by English musician John Lennon. His first book, it consists of poems and short stories ranging from eight lines to three pages, as well as illustrations.
After Lennon showed journalist Michael Braun some of his writings and drawings, Braun in turn showed them to Tom Maschler of publisher Jonathan Cape, who signed Lennon in January 1964. He wrote most of the content expressly for the book, though some stories and poems had been published years earlier in the Liverpool music publication Mersey Beat. Lennon's writing style is informed by his interest in English writer Lewis Carroll, while humorists Spike Milligan and "Professor" Stanley Unwin inspired his sense of humour. His illustrations imitate the style of cartoonist James Thurber. Many of the book's pieces consist of private meanings and in-jokes, while also referencing Lennon's interest in physical abnormalities and expressing his anti-authority sentiments.
The book was both a critical and commercial success, selling around 300,000 copies in Britain. Reviewers praised it for its imaginative use of wordplay and favourably compared it to the later works of James Joyce, though Lennon was unfamiliar with him. Later commentators have discussed the book's prose in relation to Lennon's songwriting, both in how it differed from his contemporary writing and in how it anticipates his later work, heard in songs like "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and "I Am the Walrus". Released amidst Beatlemania, its publication reinforced perceptions of Lennon as "the smart one" of the Beatles, and helped to further legitimise the place of pop musicians in society.
Since its release, the book has been translated into several languages. In 1965, Lennon released another book of nonsense literature, A Spaniard in the Works. He abandoned plans for a third collection and did not publish any other books in his lifetime. Victor Spinetti and Adrienne Kennedy adapted his two books into a one-act play, The Lennon Play: In His Own Write, produced by the National Theatre Company and first performed in June 1968 to mixed reviews."

"I was doing it long before I became a guitar", such a special mind, I love this era Lennon, before he got deeply serious, impatient with the world and Yoko'd

The pressure John and the others were under was just insane. Glad none O.D. with all that portable Rome band.

People often forget just how downright funny all four of them were. Quite different from all rock bands before or since.
Take away the music and they’re all very capable of filing the gap between the goons and python.

Just look at John in 1964 and then see him in 1967 to see how visually his face changed, unfortunately for the worse, a direct result of the rampant use of drugs, a shame, but a fact.

I disagree, he was beautiful of 1962 to 1966, then with drug abuse, his face changed a lot and for the worse. His worst phase was in 1969 with his pale and bony face.

@@melissamell1785 I guess you have dysmorphia disorder so you think everyone is ugly. How can a true young beauty become ugliness just because he lost weight? That's impossible.
He has not lost his beautiful facial features at all.

Yoko really messed him up! I don't care that he says he was suicidal before her i just think that's him being John! He got with her so he could do heroin openly and not hide it amd someone he could anything with and not care what she thought

The interviewer defintitely must have gained Lennon's trust when you see him reacting the way he does. Or is he just being pleasing and political?

there are moments here when he has certain inflections and gestures that remind me of Linda EAstman. It was far more attractive on John. Was she copying him?
