At 33:40, he couldn't get the goal so he makes up some excuse for a foul. Not to mention his big time travel on the wrong pivot foot. I'm glad Canada couldn't score
watch closely at 28:51 as morgan hibbert's defensive bid sends him careening into the only player on his team who might actually have had a play on the disc. It's funny.
Watching 1:06:00 then 1:20:30 is sooooooooo satisfying. As a Canadian I am appalled that some of these boys represented our nation. Glad Japan won and hopefully the bad apples watched this game back and grew in character afterwards
I'm Canadian and I didn't like what the Canadians did after scored a goal. Scream at the face of another player, no respect, jump on another player for no reason. I'm happy that Japan won the game. Sorry if I made some mistakes.
Kudos to ulti TV for camera work - the video is shot from the middle of the field, you can see most of the action from thrower to cutter, and the camera zooms in when appropriate.
Literally the worst part was at 47:00 when the #9 clearly bids into the back of the Japanese player, injures him, then proceeds to joke and rip the disc away as though it's okay.
As an American I didn't have allegiance to either team, but by the end, I couldn't help but root for Japan. Or against Canada, more precisely. Just flat out dirty playing by the Canucks, and complete lack of sportsmanship in the foul calls. Shameful.
You can tell the commentator who keeps getting talked over isn’t pleased with the egregious intentional fouls and disgusting sportsmanship of the Canadian players, but the other blabber mouth is so thrilled and excited by it he can’t get a word in.
Canada's pullers were line fowling like crazy... were there not observers there? Or did it not really matter? They also traveled often too. I'm surprised not more was called
Im here in 2019, and let me tell you. That was the most unsportsmanlike game I have ever watched. The canadians were cussing on the field after fouls were called on them. That is terrible. They have no right to act rude like that espeically when they were traveling more times than I could count. Shame on the canadians who played with bad sportsmanship in this game. Im proud of the Japanese for playing with honor and good spirit
I think where it all started to go downhill was at 11:18. That little bit of chippiness in the middle of the field probably caused some resentment from the Canadians, and they started to get fired up which resulted in quick turnovers on both sides
omg @ 12:00 the camera just BARELY misses what looks to have been an insane catch! So sad they zoomed in. It's on the field behind this one at the top.
Not sure if Stefan (commentator) was really meaning that it was a "nice bid" we were pulling 19 hour days to get all the footage... so we blame lack of sleep.....
Stef Rapazzo fell short on a number of occasions to call out the Canadians for their dirty play. Instead, he saw fit to hype their "intensity." The other announcer, Liam, called it like it was. Lack of sleep is no excuse.
OMG dude, look at #9 canada 46:00 - 47:00... he literally is tackling dudes... I would love to see him play contact football and see him get freaking destroyed...
Ultimate is technically non-contact but in practice there is some contact that is okay in certain situations. For example a some contact happens when a handler tries to go up-line and the dump defender holds his ground. If two people go up for a disc and the defender gets the disc first a little contact is made after then most teams say good D However Ultimate is certainly a non-tackle sport
First of all, yes he travelled (once), sure. Second: That's an incredibly tiny, tiny thing to point out in the context of this game. Massive fouls, incredibly bad spirit and LOTS of travels by Canada that are way worse than this (look at the throw to Seraglia at 27:42).
One of the worst cases of one-sided bad spirit I have ever seen! I have seen Canadian teams pull that crap before but it was usually equally bad spirit by both teams. This was just embarrassing to ultimate players in general and sadly reflects poorly on Canada.
Embarrassed to be a Canadian ulty player after watching some of the actions taken by our players here. Japan showing great spirit and true enjoyment of the game over anything else, and Canada just making a mockery of a spirit-based game. Poor showing for sure.
33:39 - terrible call. Guy never touched him. Blatant cheating. I don't know who the captain or coach of Canada is, but someone should tell them that tackling and cheating aren't part of the game. Worst spirited team I've ever seen.
I watched the play at 32:45 five times and I could not figure out what the call was. All the tackling could have been avoided in this point if Canada hadn't made a BS call here.
Such a disgrace. All these great physical skills are worth nothing if you don't behave as a responsible respectful human being. I feel for the Team Japan.
I'm surprised the announcer hasn't said something about how terribly his "native" team is performing not only in play, but also in sportsmanship. I really hope at the end of this video Canada loses, they do not deserve to win with that attitude.
Dear Team Canada. You made a mockery of our sport and disgraced yourselves. You lost more than the game - you lost the respect of the world. This is especially sad because your country is is one of the most spirited and positive Ultimate communities in the world! Hopefully this will be cause for reflection and improvement... Japan's calm and good spirit despite your disrespectful behavior towards you was AMAZING.
at 16:00 the Canadian handler throws a huck right when play comes back in. Is that considered bad spirit? Because I doubt the defender was aware that play had started.
"rip it out of his **** hands" - (Canadian Sideline) 45:00 - 46:00 wow, really? Whats funny is that even though the canadian player traveled, (like the annoucer said), he continued to pass it when there than was an interception by japan = japan possesion, maybe you shouldn't have thrown it like a fool. I garuntee if the canadian player caught it and there wasn't a turn of possession you would've said nothing of your obvious travel foul. Worst sportsmanship I've ever seen....
At 59:45 a Canadian player just decides to run up and vault off a Japanese players back because a different Japanese player was going to get the disc 10 feet away… pathetic.
i think he was trying to catch himself and slow his momentum so as not to deck the japanese player and the japanese player bent over right as he did that
I hope you're just talking about the team and not the sport. This is a perfect example of why I enjoy Mixed teams and tournaments so so much. The true camaraderie, friendliness, and most of all Spirit of the Game is leagues above Open competition. Also the lack of spiked discs is awesome.
What a douche Seraglia is. Nice job spiking the disc at the defender after you score and then needing teammates to pull you away from yelling at him. There's no excuse for that and the "apology" from their team was lamer than their play. Disgraceful play by the team and worse that it was done by their captains. It'll be a long time before I cheer for FG again. This coming from a Vancouverite.
It is games like this that show why North American Ultimate needs observors ... on that note, the necessity for observers is what is killing our sport. A game like this should be reviewed by WFDF and sanctions should be handed out. For a game like this Canada should be fined as an ultimate nation
well... let's just look at the rule book, then! from the USAU website--"Ultimate stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play." if you want different rules, find a different sport. because this is written out incredibly clearly
I watched until 8 - 8 and had to stop... Canada playing like a bunch of douchebags. Tackling, undercutting players, phantom fouls, taunting- You'd think they were playing basketball down the street...
I'm kind of embarrassed to be a Canadian after this game. Poor spirit on our part. I hope I never end up playing a game with that poor of sportsmanship.
Thank you for making this video available. It's a lesson and reminder that ultimate must be about spirit and fair-play. ps - Insignificant detail I know, but the title should be "[...]Japan VS Canada[...]" and NOT "[...]Japan V Canada[...]" because 'V' is usually reserved for court cases. Thanks for your time
Technically, you're correct! The Japanese player should have called injury and even if he could play again, take a minute to make sure he was ok. HOWEVER, the manner in which #9 conducted himself AND the horrendous "bid" he made before hand are morally wrong. No apology, no hint of respect, just a "Stop being a pussy and get up or get off the field" kind of attitude! The Japanese player's un-spirited behaviour is utterly blown away by the disgrace of a Furious player!
Gotta say, I am a little disappointed to be represented by such bad sportsmanship. However, I am pretty sure Toronto Rush will represent Canada well in the AUDL. A lot of the guys on toronto rush are from my university and theyre great guys.
canada had some trashy play. no spirit. japan played that one with honor and spirit and deserved the win. good showing.
At 33:40, he couldn't get the goal so he makes up some excuse for a foul. Not to mention his big time travel on the wrong pivot foot. I'm glad Canada couldn't score
That must've been a real awkward spirit circle after the game...
watch closely at 28:51 as morgan hibbert's defensive bid sends him careening into the only player on his team who might actually have had a play on the disc. It's funny.
Watching 1:06:00 then 1:20:30 is sooooooooo satisfying.
As a Canadian I am appalled that some of these boys represented our nation. Glad Japan won and hopefully the bad apples watched this game back and grew in character afterwards
#9 should quit ultimate
1:20:26 Hibbert can't cover his man and loses the game. Then won't shake hands. What a loser.
I'm Canadian and I didn't like what the Canadians did after scored a goal. Scream at the face of another player, no respect, jump on another player for no reason.
I'm happy that Japan won the game.
Sorry if I made some mistakes.
Casey Hallis u didn’t like only the celebration? Really? What about their mma style?
Kudos to ulti TV for camera work - the video is shot from the middle of the field, you can see most of the action from thrower to cutter, and the camera zooms in when appropriate.

33:48 is a fucking bullshit call it was a legit turn over.
Canada's pullers were line fowling like crazy... were there not observers there? Or did it not really matter?
They also traveled often too. I'm surprised not more was called
33:39 canadian traveled to throw it, gets no contact at ALL, then calls a foul for his shit throw? cheating at its best
Team Canada should watch this and reflect. That's just shameful sportsmanship on the field.
I think where it all started to go downhill was at 11:18. That little bit of chippiness in the middle of the field probably caused some resentment from the Canadians, and they started to get fired up which resulted in quick turnovers on both sides
I love it how it starts when the way shorter japanese player bodies up the 6'3" canadian and he gets mad xD
@@Apocalypseproducts The Canadian was obviously provoking and waiting for an excuse to flop and act as victim.
omg @ 12:00 the camera just BARELY misses what looks to have been an insane catch!
I hate to say it but as a Canadian ultimate player I'm glad we lost this game, we didn't deserve to win because our spirit was so awful.
Booo on Canada . such low sportsmanship . what a disgrace
At WUGC 2012, USA was 4th in spirit. Canada was 16th.
OMG dude, look at #9 canada 46:00 - 47:00...
he literally is tackling dudes... I would love to see him play contact football and see him get freaking destroyed...
Holy crap, I didn't even notice that the first time. I count that he travelled about 5 times during the 3 seconds or so he has the disc
48:00 that was a straight tackle.
Even if the final score had been 17 - 8 Canada, Japan would have won that game. I would be embarrassed to play with Hibbert after a game like that.
It was more like a fight than a game. They were getting to physical!!!!!!!
Ultimate is technically non-contact but in practice there is some contact that is okay in certain situations. For example a some contact happens when a handler tries to go up-line and the dump defender holds his ground. If two people go up for a disc and the defender gets the disc first a little contact is made after then most teams say good D However Ultimate is certainly a non-tackle sport
not to mention the shout of "bring the mother f*ing disc back" at about 00:40:00
First of all, yes he travelled (once), sure. Second: That's an incredibly tiny, tiny thing to point out in the context of this game. Massive fouls, incredibly bad spirit and LOTS of travels by Canada that are way worse than this (look at the throw to Seraglia at 27:42).
And I thought Canadians were supposed to be polite
we're sorry!
this is sports no one is or should be polite
Wajeeha Batool Yes, what is the sportsmanship
Damn those Canadians team who uses body slam to fetch the frisbee.
wow looks like Canada isn't as friendly as everyone thought.. look like a bunch of pissed of kids..
One of the worst cases of one-sided bad spirit I have ever seen! I have seen Canadian teams pull that crap before but it was usually equally bad spirit by both teams. This was just embarrassing to ultimate players in general and sadly reflects poorly on Canada.
God, I can't help but comment on how disgraceful the Canadian team conducted themselves. Absolute disgrace to the beautiful game of ultimate.
Embarrassed to be a Canadian ulty player after watching some of the actions taken by our players here. Japan showing great spirit and true enjoyment of the game over anything else, and Canada just making a mockery of a spirit-based game. Poor showing for sure.
I believe it is a pick call before the throw by a Canadian player on the front of the end zone line.
It came in on stalling 6 after the foul. 6 + 3.4 = 9.4 = a reasonable stall count
the play where japan kicks it up to 7-6. holy shit. I screamed
Wow 28:54 took out his own teammate in that huge attempt at the disc. good thing theyre both ok
Such a disgrace. All these great physical skills are worth nothing if you don't behave as a responsible respectful human being. I feel for the Team Japan.
Canada seriously no spirit of the game.
im Canadian and i was rooting for Japan.. goddamn it Canada get it together
I'm surprised the announcer hasn't said something about how terribly his "native" team is performing not only in play, but also in sportsmanship.
I really hope at the end of this video Canada loses, they do not deserve to win with that attitude.
Weak showing Canada:(
Man one of the commentators is so biased to canada even with thr worst backpackings bids the guy is saying great bid with a lottle contact
Oh sorry. You're right. It's OK to bid into someone's back.
Where is the spirit?
look at 1:12:40 , Canada rejected a handshake.
Thank you for the upload! Much thanks.
I love that #9 the guy who is tackling people goes in to try and arbitrate(sarcasm)
WTF happened at 1:04:00? Did he seriously call stall after 3.4 seconds? And then deny that he was fast counting?
to be fair it was probably more like 6/7 because of the continuation after the contested foul call, but even so, definitely fast
pretty much every canada pull is offsides. maybe they just don't know the rules
at 16:00 the Canadian handler throws a huck right when play comes back in. Is that considered bad spirit? Because I doubt the defender was aware that play had started.
Couple years late, but technically the defender did tap it in.
"rip it out of his **** hands" - (Canadian Sideline) 45:00 - 46:00
wow, really? Whats funny is that even though the canadian player traveled, (like the annoucer said), he continued to pass it when there than was an interception by japan = japan possesion, maybe you shouldn't have thrown it like a fool.
I garuntee if the canadian player caught it and there wasn't a turn of possession you would've said nothing of your obvious travel foul.
Worst sportsmanship I've ever seen....
Ah, I forgot that there isn't a continuation rule in WFDF rules.
Is Steve-O commentating this?
thanks for clarifying. i'm sure it was a hard shift.
Does the Canadian team frequently play thugdisk like this?
Had to stop watching this game #blamecanada
From canadianultimate's "TC Open - Profile" coverage of WUGC.
actually at 27:40, but, at the previous moment called a foul on a bid (correctly).
Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about your team?
"We are doing this for the pride of Canadian ultimate."
At 59:45 a Canadian player just decides to run up and vault off a Japanese players back because a different Japanese player was going to get the disc 10 feet away… pathetic.
i think he was trying to catch himself and slow his momentum so as not to deck the japanese player and the japanese player bent over right as he did that
On field celebrations are extremely common after scoring, especially in big games. There's nothing unspirited about that.
Who cares... It's not about the celebrations, it's about bidding into the backs, legs, and ankles on horrible defensive plays
I hope you're just talking about the team and not the sport. This is a perfect example of why I enjoy Mixed teams and tournaments so so much. The true camaraderie, friendliness, and most of all Spirit of the Game is leagues above Open competition. Also the lack of spiked discs is awesome.
What's with the floating scorecard?
Plenty of room in Australia... But you will have to put up with Julia or Tony!!!
wtf Canada... 48:00
What an ugly game!
The Japanese were marking waay too close but Canada's fouls are just horrible to watch.
Let’s teach kids how to not play like this 😅
Canada deserved to lose this game, no sportsmanship whatsoever and making BS calls all over the palce
the faq? canada is like playing rugby , tackling and crap
It is games like this that show why North American Ultimate needs observors ... on that note, the necessity for observers is what is killing our sport. A game like this should be reviewed by WFDF and sanctions should be handed out. For a game like this Canada should be fined as an ultimate nation

That foul on the Japanese callahan was the biggest load of crap I have ever seen.
I watched until 8 - 8 and had to stop... Canada playing like a bunch of douchebags. Tackling, undercutting players, phantom fouls, taunting- You'd think they were playing basketball down the street...
1:06:04 terrible spirit. good for japan that won the game and what a shame canada playing in that way...
Thanks for your time
13:40 wow, fantastic play
Though kinda overshadowed by the amount of traveling that preceded the throw. I mean... hot damn.
do you play ultimate?
Technically, you're correct! The Japanese player should have called injury and even if he could play again, take a minute to make sure he was ok. HOWEVER, the manner in which #9 conducted himself AND the horrendous "bid" he made before hand are morally wrong. No apology, no hint of respect, just a "Stop being a pussy and get up or get off the field" kind of attitude! The Japanese player's un-spirited behaviour is utterly blown away by the disgrace of a Furious player!
pretty sure that's morgan hibbert of furious
10:15 great defense by Canada..... The Japanese guy just let it go through.......
Gotta say, I am a little disappointed to be represented by such bad sportsmanship. However, I am pretty sure Toronto Rush will represent Canada well in the AUDL. A lot of the guys on toronto rush are from my university and theyre great guys.
48:00 in... if you lose Canada, with all those cheap shots, I'm going to laugh at you so hard!
what's going on with those guys ? not sure if they see this like ultimate frisbee or ultimate fighting. I just hate to play with people like that.
Embarassing indeed. Furious should be ashamed for lack of spirit and dirty antics
The announcers sound like Terrence and Phillip from South Park...
all fixed now... video should be back to normal...
He called stall because he contested the foul. if it was uncontested it would come back to 0. if not whatever his stall was minus a few.
im canadian but i think japan had better spirit this game.
doesnt anyone think 33.48 was a bullshit call?
TH-cam are screwing with us... I've fixed it. It should be right in a day or two depending on how quick TH-cam can rectify it.
