just like to point out, as a Canadian, every ultimate player i know (and myself) were extremely upset with the way Furious George (the canadian team) represented our country and played. It was out of line, it was aggressive and it was poor sportsmanship. they issued an apology for the way they acted but that isnt enough, I just want to put this out there so spectators dont hate on future canadian teams because of the actions of bad apples, even though it may be well deserved.

Ultimate Frisbee isn't usually like this. It's more friendly and outgoing matches, it would depend on the people you play with. If you have somebody in your match that helps people get up or motivates people, than your match will obviously be positive. But if you see unsportsmanlike behavior like that number 9 guy, than the match will be more intense and aggressive.
I'm Japanese, and it was sad that this game became famous because of the bad aspect of the whole game. But as I read the comment from team Canada (check out the article of Aug10 on Furious George HP), it seems they learned how their play would be criticized. I don't affirm the dangerous plays and threatening attitudes, but I respect their dynamic and attractive playstyle, and I really hope they'll show us great games with the spirit of the game as one of the strongest team in the world.

If you watch the four players gathered by the middle of the goal line at 0:59 the two defenders have to cross paths so they call a meaningless pick (you will see one of the Japanese players raise his hand to identify it). Should have been a play-on since it had no effect on the play. But then we would have avoided all of this madness.

There's a ton of contact in Ultimate and quite frankly, I love it as much as loved contact in basketball (non-contact sport my ass) but there's a difference between contact and what Furious did in this game! There's no excuse for that. If you're behind a player on a disc contest, you are the one responsible for the contact. 2. Has the Canadian team ever heard of break defense? How Japan simple didn't just backhand it all the way down the field a score is beyond me. Take the easy throws. I guess it's hard to score when you're being tackled on every play. 3. Why didn't Japan just use a sideline offense all the way down? Canada bit on every fake.

looks can be deceiving. i play basketball competitively, golf, and play ultimate on a team. plus those videos are pretty old to what i am today. 1. he reached over the guys shoulder while grabbing onto his back. 2. ok, maybe not football, but he takes him down by grabbing him from behind. completely not necessary, only did that to stall time to get into defensive position. 3. glad we can finally agree on something.
In ultimate there are always chippy calls and a little bit of contact (jumping, diving etc) But as you as see in this video there is no need for half of the layouts that Canada was doing. They were simply laying out to injure people which is completely against the rules. Ultimate is known for its own culture and respect for one another in game play. Canada was simply an embarrassment to the sport in this video.

Watch the clock on the left. Not a 11:52 min. point. Starts at 48min and ends at 75min. More like a 27min point by two of the best teams in the world.
