- Seattle Sockeye took on Texas Doublewide in the first round on Sunday at the 2012 Emerald City Classic in Seattle, WA. With only five turnovers in the entire game (and not a single one in the first half), it was an exciting, hard-fought game -- and our pick for the top matchup of the tournament.

9:42.. Holy shit. I'm assuming Doublewide purposefully tells their players to bump into the handler when marking up? 3 times on 3 different handlers. "You're faster than us? We'll just foul to slow down play."
Great video, so nice to see extended and varied play in an Ultimate video rather than just the hucks.
Impressive use of the hammer throw and the give and go in various situations.
Much of the first several minutes of this video was one big tutorial on why forcing line can allow the other team to have easy flows and scores, then both teams gradually seemed to try to force more straight up.
26 scored in one endzone, 1 in the other.
Thanks for the upload very good offensive play and it is amazing to see how people can figure out Sockeye's 1-3-3 junk D so easily now compared to when they first started it. Sockeye was a little flustered probably with having to play against their former player Tim.
i wish my team had such chemistry and nice flow with the disc!
It would be great if you guys could edit the video to include the pulls. It's a very important part of the game!
the foul at 13:30 confused me for awhile too but I'm pretty sure the defensive player contested the foul. This means the play wasn't going to continue regardless of the turnover.
If you are standing in the spot first then it is your space and it was a good awareness play by the defender. Its the same as boxing someone out to get the better jump on the disc.
Incredible game! I think only 5 turnovers and one break? And not for lack of effort either (Obviously). Any chance that Kiran missed that last one because of the cap horn? I've almost dropped a disc because of the horn. That'd be an unfortunate way to lose a game.
The horn indicated "hard cap," which means that the teams should finish the current point and then decide what to do. If it's tied after finishing, they should play one more point to decide the winner. If it's not tied, the game is over.
thanks for posting
that was probably the most vicious spike i've ever seen. nonetheless sick game and doublewide looks like a big contender this year especially now with tim!
What's up with the air horn at 22:36? Is that an indication that the next goal is the last goal, or was someone messing with the game?
haha holy shit what an awesome game. The throws and patience involved with those throws are just incredible. Things I wish I could do *sigh*
Where is the spirit?
other then that spike on the dude, that was one of the best games of ultimate ive seen played, thanks for uploading it
is it just me or should that spike been a turn? the dw guy didnt make the se guy drop the disc but running into him, and if you travel and then spike it it would be a turn
good footage
Also, at 13:55, the doublewide defender makes a pretty unspirited blocking foul, which wasn't called. You can clearly see he jumps back and gets in the way of the guy making a strike cut
no he didn't tecnically travel he was stoping then was pushed out they should give up the disk because of the awful spirit(which can happen), but they don't. DW prolly sent a letter to USAU about it.(20:45)
He probably needs to control his temper but he was tackled in a non-contact sport. I don't think I could have held my temper there either. That's the beauty of an non-reffed sport, you can tackle and spike on someone with no repercussions.
nice calling game!
The foul was called by the player who dumped the disc. I guess he didn't like the terrible swing after that so he called it. It should have been a turn as his dump was completed and there was no foul on the incomplete swing pass.
well if he called a foul, then there is no turnover after play has technically stopped
no turnovers for the first 10 points!
its youtube, you can rewind and see the fouls. and im not even a sockeye fan
Can someone explain 13:30 to me? I just don't get the reason for the foul call at this potential turn-over.
Also, really weak spirit in this game, thank god Ultimate is played differently in Austria. e.g. when the guy is lying on the ground and in pain at 15:10, the game is stopped and you can hear people saying "injury, injury, injury". - someone else is just aggressivly yelling "YEEEEAAH Frank"....
SOckeye called way to many fouls Everytime there was a turnover, FOUL bring it back!!!!
And that would be because DW keep drawing professional fouls to stop Sockeye's flow.
11:06! Wow
spirit of the game was nullified the second he got tackled. he had every right to throw the disc if not punch him in the face. that dw player got called for tons of fouls all game (usually on the mark) and deserved more than that as punishment
Seriously why did they let him keep playing? I accidentally gave my friend a concussion once by hitting him with a medium-hard throw at about 20yards. So if that had hit his head instead of his leg, he would be in the emergency room. That is completly unexceptable.
Many club teas do that with their marks, not too uncommon to see someone bump and then to back off right away. Maybe not as hard as Doublewide was doing it, but still.
Awful to see the disc used as a weapon like that.
if his feet were planted then it isn't a foul.
Danny moves his pivot foot right before faking the huck, watch again, it happens at 5:05 or so.
Neither of them were really in the right to do what they did. Both were kind of dick moves. No matter the situation, players can't be blowing up on others like that. Doublewide player needed to back off, but that's no reason to throw the disc at him. It WAS a very close game, so it's going to happen in this situation.
Awful travel call at 5.08.
Yeah Rory Orloff blows.
lol, non-sense. Bounties and PUNCHING OF FANS (not players) has still not led to expulsion from pro sports.
You just can't do drugs...
a right to be pissed but no right to throw a disc at someone. i get it, the DW player had way too much contact but it's still up to sockeye to call it. it was a fucking disgrace and in any other sport he'd be fined and rubbed out.
