  • Dr. Becker needs to get to 20,000 signatures to be able to petition the veterinary school curricula board to include hormone sparing surgical alternatives to be taught in vet schools. Let's help get updated sterilization techniques for the health of our pets! ► chng.it/DQy6wPKxW6
What happens when dogs have no sex hormones throughout life? Various studies confirm how traditional spay and neuter, especially when our dogs are young, causes so many diseases. Dr. Karen Shaw Becker, Veterinarian, Wildlife Biologist and author of The Forever Dog, and Dr. Judy talk about that long list of diseases related to traditional spay/neuter and alternative surgeries that are so much safer for our dogs and can make a world of difference in a dog's life. She even shares the resource www.parsemus.org/ as a place to seek out veterinarians who are using these much safer surgical methods to desex dogs. In addition, Dr. Becker shares how you can easily help your dog's health if they have already been desexed by traditional methods. You won't want to miss this fascinating and informative episode!

So few talk about this subject. An old school Vet once told me, he only sees joint problems in neutered dogs, not in the intact ones. There are Vets that do vascectomies and tube ligation for sterilization that leaves hormones intact for health benefits.

My dog was neutered at 6 months old, he was my first dog the vet said I had to, he's now 14 but after being neutered he then had dog aggression and really bad flank alopecia. After reading up about the alopecia it's all linked to hormones. I will never get another dog spayed or neutered unless absolutely necessary

I have a cockapoo who is not neutered. He is now 2 years old. He doesn't hump, has a calm temperament, and does not show any kind of aggression towards other dogs. Everytime we go to the dog park, it is the neutered ones who keeps bullying him and pushing his boundaries like trying to hump him, bark at him or sometimes these dogs assert their dominance by pushing him or even trying to put him in a submissive position. Most of the time he would correct the young ones (puppies) and setting his boundaries by barking at the big ones who would try him but won't hurt them in any way. His most concern at the dog park is to play ball with me and even shares the ball with the other dogs trying to get them to play. But some of these neutered ones who bullies him are becoming annoying now and it goes to show neutering won't really solve any kind of behavioral issues of some dogs.

Totally agreed. Doctors and veterinarians are trained to perform surgery or prescribe medication. Most don’t go beyond this. Grateful for these two wonderful veterinarians and how well they educate and speak out!

My dog just turned 3 years old and despite the ire of my veterinarians, I am not going to have him neutered-- He is healthy, lean and beautiful and no behavior "problems". Intact male and female dogs, statistically speaking, have better longevity, maintain a normal weight and are less prone to endocrine problems.

I have two 6 month old female basset hounds and I am concerned about when to spay them. I found a vet about 3 hours from my home that does the ovary sparing spaying. I know it’s a far trip but I think they will benefit more from the correct spaying then them being in the car that long. At what age is spaying them like this is best? Should I wait till after their first heat? Thanks so much. ❤

Thank you so much for all you do. Can you please address how best to supplement and take care of cruciate ligament problems.
We got our four year old dog when she was only nine weeks old and had already been spayed from the humane society.
She had her first knee surgery at 2 years, we have been trying to keep her from getting the other one. Because it was so invasive and difficult for her.
She weighs about 70 pounds. And I've had the worst time trying to get weight off of her. When I feed her fresh food at two percent of her ideal body weight about sixty pounds, she seems to not lose weight and possibly gain. Please help in any way possible

@drjudy- My female dog has a Tubal ligation and she is two year old. She just went into heat Oct 1 and now a month later took her to the vet because of vomiting/lethargy. It was diagnosed as an enlarged ovary and they are recommending full spaying. I want what is best for my baby. I can pay this as a consultation or if you can guide me to the right person or source..
Her breed is a mix (Totton de tulear with toy poodle)
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

My Vet tried to talk me into having my male Dog neutered at six months of age. I made the appointment but then cancelled it as I wasn't happy and didn't feel that I was doing the right thing. I eventually had him neutered at twelve months. I wish I'd known then what I know now and had done more research. I hate myself every day because of the potential health issues I may have caused my Pet.

I'm sorry I know you are a busy lady , I have watched many of your videos and have a great deal of respect for your opinions. I have a 14 month old Morkie who went through cycle starting the end of Feb. was tough hard to get her interested in food but made it through, now here we are in May and she just has no interest in food, I took her to our Vet and she did many test and Blood work all came back fine, she believes what my pup is going through is faults pregnancy. This concerns me from what I read this will only get worst with more cycles. I would appreciate any suggestions you may have, just looks like having her spayed may be my only option. Thank You for your time.
