Not only did he bowl some seriously fast deliveries, he also bowled a lot of overs in this compilation, which shows what a great athlete he was. Always a treat watching Brett Lee bowl.

Seeing someone like mark wood tire and slow naturally over the innings from 155kph to 140kph makes me appreciate just how freakish of an athlete Brett Lee was aswell. The bloke could bowl 155kph in his 20th over of the day.

But the wickets were taken at the other end - by McGrath. Imagine facing that duo; there was just no relief. Of course when they tired and the ball was old you could relax with Shane Warne ...
What an attack Australia had at that time!

It was odd that he got it swinging conventionally here but never during the Ashes. He got reverse swing in England, but never got conventional swing. Got plenty of seam movement though.
Also shows why Kallis was such a great player - he was a brilliant judge of what to play and what to leave.

In the Brett Lee vs Shoaib Akhtar battle, I'd always rate Brett Lee higher.
This video shows exactly why - Brett Lee had this insane ability to swing the ball BOTH WAYS at over 150kph. Shoaib could, at times, reverse swing the ball, but even that was quite a limited ability. Lee, on the other hand, could consistently get the new ball to move both ways at extreme pace.
We were fortunate to grow up watching Lee bowl...there's no pacer in the world at the moment capable of swinging the ball even one way at 150+. They can bowl fast - Rabada, Rauf, Umran, Lockie, Wood - they are all capable of bowling at over 150kph, but none of them can swing the ball at that pace. Rabada can swing the ball, but only when he's operating between the 135-145 kph mark.
Brett Lee was a gem of a bowler.

This spell itself is better than Akhtar's entire career. Had he not bowled 161.3 kmph during the 2003 world Cup campaign in SA, not would have remembered him. Some fans would have remembered him as he used to bowl beamers.
On the other hand, Lee have bowled around 6 to 7 deliveries above 160 kmph and the fastest being 161.1 in NZ against NZ. Around 15-20 deliveries he bowled at 159+ kmph. And many above 156 + . I have seen him bowling constantly and continously above 155+ against NZ in the year 2006 I reckon.
Plus, his accuracy was superior. Even in the year 2011 he was bowling at 150+ in England.
During a Sheffield shield Match in the year 2000, he was at his top most gear and he himself said that one of the bounced deliveries directly hit the side line as it went above the Keeper's head as he had no price getting it. You know who was the keeper??? It was Brad Haddin and in a recent interview Brad Haddin admitted that in that particular match brett bowled one his fastest deliveries and much faster than Shaun Tails 160.6 against PAK and he admitted that Brett was the fastest he had ever kept to.

@@belsayshootingground At least you addressed the elephant in the room. I also think the same.
It is very difficult to guess the speed by seeing how the ball carries through to the keeper. Many balls don't seem fast from the video. For example even Shoaib Akhtar's fastest ball doesn't seem as fast as the batter dealt with it very easily.
That's why some are doubting the speed of this delivery, while others are jumping on the bandwagon to make it an unquestionable truth.

Comment with a severe lack of knowledge.
What Lee achieved was an ordinary test bowling average of 30+. Even above average Australian bowlers like Merv Hughes have a better test career than Lee.
Mitchell Johnson, All of the 3 Australian quicks of today, most good fast bowlers of past Australia have a better career than Lee in the toughest format of the game, Test cricket.
Baby? Lee is an average bowler infront of Dale Steyn, one of the greatest ever bowler, 400+ test wkt with an extraordinary bowling avg of 22 & an all time greatest bowling strike rate of 42, performed in every country, in every conditions.
Anderson, doing unthinkable for a fast bowler, going great at freaking 40 age, performing even on roads of Asian pitches, claiming no1 rank at 40, nearing freaking 700 wkt being a pace bowler.
Lee is nowhere near the bowler these 2 are in the toughest format of the game. I am backing it with facts & stats, not hyperbole.
Lee was better than both Steyn & Anderson in ODI though. He won world Cups because he was part of the greatest team & was bowling with McGrath who was the GOAT bowler. After McGrath retired in 2007, Lee became the leader of the bowling attack , Australia started to decline heavily in late 2000s & early 2010s.

Just highlights the awful quality of fast bowling in the last several years in international cricket, had such fast bowling riches in the 90s and 2000s, Im glad I was around to experience it. Post 2020 there is an obvious decline, the top guys, Cummins, Rabada, Starc etc cant hold a candle to the previous bunch, zero intimidation. The last great fast bowlers were Steyn (arguably one of the all-time best), Mitch Johnson, and Morkel.
    RIP fast bowling 1930-2018.
