@SmartrBaseball I do yeah there's a lot more to take in to account than just having money and analytics...balancing egos, cohesion, locker room leadership etc
@kiefdemon1979 rays are small market and heavy on analytics but that's not only thing they look at plus their farm system is great at teaching not the same
There are a few things you left out that are very important. While Nimmo and lindor have bad averages, Nimmos expected average is around 280, and even with a 220 avg he is 10% better than the average hitter. Lindor is also hitting incredibly well since being moved to the lead off spot. Also, Alonso’s wrc+ is just around his career avg, and is barely having a below average season for him, still well, well above average for the league
I do appreciate the gumption, but the Mets ignored the basic fundamentals of baseball team building that can be bent but never broken. You MUST build a farm system first and foremost and once you have your homegrown stars ONLY THEN can you buy the farm on Free Agents. Especially today because Free Agency is so broken.
@@Redpoppy80 and what do you do when you purchase a team from owners who were cheap and invested no money in scouting or development and left a farm which was ranked like 27th?
Lindor is a good player, but he is and never will be worth that kind of money. As far as shortstops go defensively, I can name a handful I would rather have that are asking for a lot less money. Sure, he’s a switch batter, but he is not as productive as standard batters at his position either. He has a 1.5 WAR. I don’t know where the Mets came up with the numbers for that contract to be honest. Looking back it would have been better to keep Giménez and move him over to Shortstop (assuming they still decided to onboard McNeil).
As a die hard Mets fan, the Mets lacked a competent front office for years. Prior to Cohen the Wilpons nickle and dimed every season. The Scherzer and Verlander trades were attempts to a win now but also save on the future by building the minors. Scherzer and Verlander are at the tail end of the careers. In hindsight, they were bad signings. But at the end time it gave hope to the Mets faithful that the team was willing to invest in whatever it took to build a winning team and winning culture. So yes it’s an expensive failure, but we know have the front office to make the right choices for not only today but for the future. I rather be the Mets than the Marlins, Whitesox,
@@refusetolose05 Baty was the #2 3B prospect behind Henderson and top 10 in sport. Then he failed. Sometimes that happens to plans. They also have Mauricio who will be between 3B and 2B depending on situation with Vientos, Acuna, and DH To say nothing for the foreseeable future is ridiculous
I agree with you but the Mets need to blow up this team. Most of the players here have no future with the team. Also we need to blow up the core with gas proven that together they cannot be consistent. We need to trade Alonso or get a compensation pick that's 22M+ saved. This guy is not clutch and in his years with the Mets he hasn't been able to carry the team for 3 or more games. McNeil has to go even if we eat a lot of money. Everyone with a 1 year deal gone. Let's give the kids in the minors a chance to pitch here. We can go after Soto if we can't get him at a reasonable price we should go after after Christian Walker Give him a 2 year deal with an option this saves us at least 140M plus years that we would have to give Alonso. Stearns knows what to do.
In 3/4 of full seasons he's knocked in 118+ runs, but he's not clutch? Wtf are you talking about? Kids in the minors are already getting chances to pitch here. And obviously people like Quintana, Severino, Megill, Manaea, Houser, are stopgaps because somebody has to throw innings and also be backup as Scott, Butto, Tidwell, etc continue to develop Walker should absolutely be option #2. And he is absolutely getting a better deal than what you just suggested.
Severino is part of the solution, not part of the problem. Remember, the guy was once among the best pitchers in baseball and he's still young. Prior to trading him i'd first like to offer him an extension of $20 mil x 4 and see whether he bites. i would move McNeil, Alonso, Lindor, Nimmo and Marte for pitching prospects swallowing whatever it takes of their contracts. Play Parada, Clifford, Acuna, Williams, Gilbert and Ramirez and let's see what they can do. Sweeping the Nationals, who have been little more than an expansion team since getting rid of their best players, is fools' gold. This team is not making the playoffs.
Wow I think the exact opposite. Keep those 5, (or at least 4 of them do) they have the potential, swap out the rest for better pitching and BETTER COACHING! That's what I think is really holding the Mets back. They have good players who are being let down by horrible coaching. You don't see the Mets steel bases like they should, they're too safe, they aren't willing to take risks. They need to hustle more with coaches who push them to be the best. That's my opinion at least.
I think that if Vientos is still playing well by the deadline, they will trade him. I see no point in keeping him. I think he and McNeil are part of a losing culture on the team.
What happened to the Mets is simple. When they had that 101 win season, the Braves chipped away at the Met lead in the east division, caught up to them, and then left them in the dust. Now they are still suffering from the psychological effects of that amazing collapse and became weak panzy asses and still haven't recovered from the fact that the Braves are deep in their heads. And I'd like to also add that some of those Met players were on a "fluke" year like McNeil who came back down from his off-season home on Mars to show what a lousy hitter he really is. add that to the fact that Met owner Steve Cohen is an amateur owner who is not a very good judge of character.
In 2022 McNeil's OPS was 836. In 2020 McNeil's OPS was 836. In 2019 McNeil's OPS was 916. In 2018 McNeil's OPS was 852. You sound like Spencer Strider crying at his locker after he gets lit up. During development his defense was questioned, but Verlander and Scherzer raved about his pitch calling, his game prep, he ranked as one of the highest framers and was all around good defensively. His future looks bright.
@@BKDBut To be honest, Baty is trash. Can't hit, barely fields properly, errors, etc. I like Alvarez and Mauricio. I'm not saying the future can't be bright for the Mets. The problem is that there is no guarantee that the prospects they have will make it the big leagues. And it's not just them. Many teams have "highly touted" prospects that have a small level of success. i think the Mets front office needs to find that balance between prospects and big contracts. Because the big name guys like Soto are not gonna sign just because the Mets throw $50 mil AAV.
Interesting study of how money can't buy you love😅 Chemistry and Good Vibes bring a team together for the long run. Thank you for the video ❤
Glad you enjoyed the video, who was your favorite team you've gotten to watch?
@@SmartrBaseball I took my Dad to the Mariner's game on 4/27. We're life long M's fans. However, I got to see Altuve and he's been my favorite player for years. Gigante did not participate in the sign stealing BS.
You live and you learn. Cohen is still figuring out how to do what's best for the Mets who are better off with him as owner. The organization is slowly turning around from top to bottom.
I love adding Tom Segura’s dunk vid 😂😂
Grimace may need to have a word
Injuries aside I feel like this is what happens when you go all in on analytics only
Do you think it's more balancing traditional baseball wisdom with analytics, rather than one or the other?
@SmartrBaseball I do yeah there's a lot more to take in to account than just having money and analytics...balancing egos, cohesion, locker room leadership etc
Na, cause that's how the Rays operate. The Mets went for star power and ignored things like injury history and age of the player.
@kiefdemon1979 rays are small market and heavy on analytics but that's not only thing they look at plus their farm system is great at teaching not the same
No Thomas Jefferson said LOLMETS in 1801
There are a few things you left out that are very important.
This may have been premature!
But are they now? Grimace has saved there season, at least for now
Pre-grimace

I just want to say I love the DBZA clips in here lol
Tom Segura is my favorite Japanese comedian

lol and now they haven't lost since u posted this
Imma be honest, hearing $500 million dollar offseason when 2024 the dodgers spent 700 on one player just looses how much this actually was
I do appreciate the gumption, but the Mets ignored the basic fundamentals of baseball team building that can be bent but never broken.
Baty didn't fail at third, he failed behind the plate.
(Coming from a Phillies fan) Next time the Mets are in the World Series, I will be rooting for them.
He has the 2nd highest WAR of SS since he came to Mets. Only Turner is higher. And no SS is a better bat/glove combo.
Great video!!! As a Phillies fan I am loving this!
2 rings since 1883 😂
As a die hard Mets fan, the Mets lacked a competent front office for years.
I rather be the Mets than the Marlins, Whitesox,
David Wright retired in 2016... still no true replacement with nothing for the foreseeable future.
@@refusetolose05 Baty was the #2 3B prospect behind Henderson and top 10 in sport. Then he failed. Sometimes that happens to plans. Now they have Vientos out there who I have been defending for a long time due to his terrible opportunities to play. He's got 10 homers and 26 RBI and a 961 OPS in 136 ABs. They also have Mauricio who will be between 3B and 2B depending on situation with Vientos, Acuna, and DH
To say nothing for the foreseeable future is ridiculous
And obviously people like Quintana, Severino, Megill, Manaea, Houser, are stopgaps because somebody has to throw innings and also be backup as Scott, Butto, Tidwell, etc continue to develop
Walker should absolutely be option #2.
@@fr2ncm9 Are you smoking crack? Vientos?

Mets are doing better than Yankees, so far.
Insider trading is not allowed in MLB, so Cohen can't have a winning "investment. " Boof - Bababoey
