    Hi Rachel, thank you for sharing your joy with us, really liked it!
    I think Dend. Pierrardi will do just fine for you. I can totally agree with you for buying it. One day I just found a picture about it, a speciement size in flower and fall in love with it immediately. So I went and ordered it from my local nursiery, luckily they got some, 2 pc for starters thinking if I want that show from the picture, I better buy two, so I don't have to wait that long.
    Mines are mounted, arrived at the end of November, and since some canes were still growing, I just kept them with the other orchids in warm conditions and sprayed them quite irregularly, I did not fuss with them much. Some weeks later I noticed at the opposite side of the base of the leaves a few bumps, some were double bumps which were growing quite fast considering we are talking about orchids. But many leaves were still on so I just could not understand it. I did not dare to move it to a colder place, just left it there.

    • @agarsorchids7708
      @agarsorchids7708 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      And it flowered for me very nicely. I can not take credit for it, it is the nursery's, but was very pleased with it regardless.
      Yours is at least the double of mine's size, so I hope you will have a nice show!
      I plan on potting them in a big clay pot, because mounted orchids on pressed cork slabs do not well for me and because as I saw in many pictures, the biggest ones were all potted. What kind of potting media do you have in yours? They have such fine, slim roots, pure bark may not be good enough for them.
      The last two flowers just dropped today but it had started to grow new canes already.
      My only complain is the flowers do not last that long, 2-2,5 weeks, and I did not smell fragrance. But maybe in this year....
      Have a nice time with your new babies, and thanks again for sharing!
      Bye, Maria

      +Agars & Orchids That is all very encouraging news and I thank you for it. I have not had much success with the type of dendrobium that takes a winter rest (except for nobile hybrids) so I would be pleased if this one were an easy one. I too have seen those magnificent photos on the internet and they make me dream :)

    Rather than bringing some plants home, I think I would like to just 'move in' and live there with all the orchids . I would look after them for free (well some food now and again perhaps). And a good haul. What a coincidence - as you went though your purchases I recognised the miltonia - one of 3 that I bought from ebay in Portugal. And hey, that was the place - small world.

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Roger Frampton Was it the Golden one or Queen Ann. Yes, small world :)

    • @GrowingOrchidswithRoger
      @GrowingOrchidswithRoger 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Gardening at Douentza Actually BOTH - the M. 'Gooddale Moir' "Golden Wonder" and M. 'Queen Ann' and the 3rd was M. castanea which is a hybrid between M. clowesii and M. regnellii (which can occur in the wild apparently). The only other Miltonia I've got is the one doing the rounds from a mass production - M. Sunset. These are all quite new for me so I'll have to see how they progress as time goes on. I want to do more vids but the builders next door are making so much noise. Maybe they'll take a day off as it's Saturday tomorrow.

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Roger Frampton Yeah, I should have bought that miltonia too.
      Here's hoping the builders take a break. I love your videos.

      +Gardening at Douentza It's quite difficult to find a 'style' when you start so I thought - blow it - just be 'me'. I will get one done tomorrow even if I have to scrap the sound-track and record one separately and merge them together. Who knows, I might even be brave and be 'in' one.

    Yaaaay new orchids! :D don't worry about the pierardii, he does better than any other deciduous I have, blooms no matter what, even without a proper rest. Flowers are translucent and just so pretty :) very faint smell but pretty nonetheless ;)

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +MissOrchidGirl I have been watching your pierardii with interest. Mine was in full leaf when I bought it but it had lost some by the time I made this video. Now it has fewer. I hope it will flower but no bumps yet :/

    Wonderful place to have gone and any orchid lover would find plenty to select from. Right now I'm pretty estatic with Miltoniopsis, paps, cyms, oncidiums, nelly Isler, cologyene and billarias which are in flower and still have not picked up my new camcorder to even begin to learn how to make videos so must get busy. Have a large box of air plants and bromeliads due to arrive tomorrow. (excuse any wrong spelling)

    It must have been WONDERFUL to visit that place! In this video we could see a lot of very interesting and unusual blooms, and it's amazing how many orchids they have blooming at the same time! This week I got this year's first issue of our society's magazine, and there was an article about this same orchid nursery in Madeira, and he too mentioned this awesome deal (5 orchids for 25 euros). You got some amazing plants! I can't wait to see them in bloom. What an orchid paradise! :) Have a great weekend, Rachel!

    Hi, so you bought an A. veitchii!!! I have mine in full bloom now, and its flowers are big and have a scent which is close to hyacinths one, but not as strong and it's only realeased at night, as you would expect with any Angraecum. Also, I have discovered that it's more intense at sunset, but I like it more at night, because it's a bit more floral then. :)

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mmm, if I was you, I would buy a big size Veitchii, I'm so impatient. And wait, because this is what I actually did myself. I had a little veitchii, and then I saw a big orchid and I told myself: you won't pass this oportunity, will you? hhh

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +‫حبيب المصطفى‬‎ Good advice but I didn't have the opportunity to buy a big one. I do have a large Angraecum Crestwood though so hopefully it will flower soon.

      Well, on ebay I have seen decent size plants, but they are expensive. hhh It's a pity. But yeah, your A. Crestwood should flower pretty soon. :) Good luck with it, and hope you'll present us gorgeous flowers from it. :)

    • @GardeningatDouentza

      Orchids can be a bit confusing in the beginning. Generally speaking they need orchid bark as most are epiphytic plants that grow on trees in nature so they need lots of air at their roots. We only keep them in pots in our houses because we don't have trees to hang them on. Good luck with your growing and if you have any more specific question, please let me know!
