Thanks so much for doing this extensive preview, it's really helped me decide to back this expansion and give Ahoy another chance. The new factions look amazing and I quite agree, it seems to be the expansion we (and the game) needed. I'm especially looking forward to playing the Shellfire Rebellion and the Coral Cap Pirates, but I believe the OG Smugglers will also benefit from the opportunity to only have one of them in a 4p game, mixed with one of the new 'low reach' factions. Just a quick note, the Surge shown at 4:33 can't move the flagship through sand bars. Other than that, excellent video, keep it up!
I find the Mollusk Union to be the most fun to play. I'm really intrigued by the Coral Pirates, and the Leviathan. They sound SO DIFFERENT. Although, launching turtles also sounds like a pretty good time (and an interesting new way to get comrades on to islands).
I love Ahoy, one of my favorite games. Playing as a smuggler and trying to just slink in and out of ports while the 2 main factions wage war is so fun!
I am intrigued by ahoy but didn’t like there was only 3 asymmetrical factions with 2 at war with each other, wanted an expansion for a better 2 player game and more variety, this might be it
I really love the way the "Third Party" factions are made here, super excited to try them out and enjoy their political nature that pushes table talk while also being very interesting mechanically. SO EXCITED!!
Hey I really appreciate you noticing I’ve been back! In the next personal life update you will see there was a big life altering reason why. And why I may slow down again in a bit. But thank you so much for commenting.
I've been waiting for a translation of this game to play it with my nieces and nephews who love Root (but find it a tad difficult to play) as well as Sea of Thieves, but with the new expansion coming I'll definitely get a copy of base game + expansion, I'll just translate the rules and help them out with the cards in one way or another (if anyone has any idea about this, I'd be happy to hear about it)! Can't wait to play this I love the concept of the Coral Cap Pirates and the Leviathan, and more diversity for control factions never hurts
Just got Ahoy in the mail (and still unplayed) and now there's news of an expansion?! I sold Root because it's become too complex for my "gateway gaming" family, so hopefully this hits the table more often. And these new factions are just so interesting! The Leviathan reminds me of one of the most developed fan factions in Root: Khan the Serpent(?). Anyway, looking forward to getting this when it releases!
Bit disappointed 2 of the factions are basically just reworked versions of the current 2 main factions, however the 2 supplementing the deliverers sound very interesting, wish it wasnt such a big expansion
They don’t feel the same as the previous too when you play them! Whole different puzzle. They need the patrols and comrades so they all can work with any combination. I would try the print and play when available
@@LordoftheBoardyeah agree, also the 2 factions that are in for the pick up and deliver factions sound very interesting I just wish we could buy just the 2 instead of all 4, like the root expansions where it’s usually 2 factions and some modular stuff
Ahoy is definitely good at 2, and this expansion quadruples the 2 player match-up options! So it is an improvement on the 2 player experience if you're wanting more variety. But it's perhaps a bit pricey if you're only planning on using half the new content. 2 of the expansion factions can only be used at 3 or 4 players. Tough call, great game
Yeah! I hear you. For me it will always be a “who wants to play the controller factions” and then go from there. My wife doesn’t dig them at all so she will always be happy being the 3rd or 4th position.
I think having alternate blue and yellow factions is a brilliant approach. Nick's design diaries on bgg are really neat, and he explains why the blue and yellow factions need each other to have something to do. As the bluefins, if there are no comrades to remove/compete with, then what is your purpose? If you want the freedom to mix and match any factions, you could always just play root?
I wish there was a way to play with both the Blackfish Brigade and the Bluefin Squadron , or to play without the militant factions at all and just have the smugglers going up against each other.
Two smugglers would just be a straightup pick up and deliver game though (with combat). There wouldn't be prediction points or a purpose to increasing region value. I think it'd be quite a bit less interesting.
Just play Root. This is an entry level asymmetric game. Keeping the two warring factions with very similar goals allows everyone to try different different factions without having to learn too much about the other players. Which is also why there is always two warring factions.
What is your favorite faction in Ahoy? And which faction are you most looking forward to in New Horizons?
I love the Bluefin, so I'm most excited for the Blackfish
Leder Games are the masters of well made asymmetrical games! These factions are so unique! Can't wait to play these factions next year. ❤

Needs more sea shanties. And cowbell. ;) 🚢
I just love what Leder games is doing with the factions, great video btw
Glad you enjoy it!

They definitely are very different. It’s a really cool new feel when playing.

Yes! They are so well done and up the complexity a little bit :)
Glad you’re back to posting! Can’t wait for more villainous guides and videos!

Super excited to get my copy of this, I love Ahoy and extra factions are exactly what the game needed.
Yes! There is a sick team mode coming with it too and it is amazing!
Absolutely LOVE the way the Mollusk Union plays! They speak to my Woodland Alliance loving heart! Excited to try out the Shellfire Rebellion!
⛵💨🐢🏝️
I think you will enjoy these turtles for sure! :)
Im probably most pumped for the whales and pirates in this expansion.
Amazing video! I'm subscribing and cannot wait for more
Awh thank you so much :)
thanks for the really nice overview with great visuals, as always :) really looking forward to the new stuff
Great vid today 👌
Appreciate you!

Leviathan reminds me of the Root Fangus Khan fanfaction.
I hope they add more expansions. This game is fun ❤
Please can you do a video on the villain guide to Oogie Boogie Filled with fright from Disney Villainous? Thanks! Love the content!
can you surge through sandbars like you showed at 4:45?

I’m very excited for this expansion, although I wish they changed the turtles to be a different like they did for the whales
To be a different what?!
You’re the hottest board game TH-camr. Hands down
I want to back this but I mainly play at 2 players. It's Ahoy great at 2 players? Or does this expansion make it better at 2 players?
Ahoy is definitely good at 2, and this expansion quadruples the 2 player match-up options! So it is an improvement on the 2 player experience if you're wanting more variety.

Tough call, great game
Ahoy is very strong at 2. I would dare call it a 2 player game, that one or two more players can join.
Serpent boi 🐍
I'm not a big fan of swaping out for other factions. I want to mix and match them all.
Yeah! I hear you. For me it will always be a “who wants to play the controller factions” and then go from there. My wife doesn’t dig them at all so she will always be happy being the 3rd or 4th position.

@kelvynpackard8386 I do play root. Even in Root, there are some limitations like that. I guess I just want more freedom of choice.
Fair enough. I'm super impressed with all the new choices/combinations! :)
Just play root. This is an entry level asymmetric game. The swap keeps the amount of learning about the other teams factions to a minimum.
I wish there was a way to play with both the Blackfish Brigade and the Bluefin Squadron , or to play without the militant factions at all and just have the smugglers going up against each other.

I'd argue that simplicity is not the main reason those factions are required.
FWIW, I'm gonna. Greg Loring-Albright isn't my boss, he can't tell me what to do!
Does this mean you could play with more players?
The game still currently holds up to 4!
