  • The M8S is another in line of smart chargers from ToolkitRC. As well as charging, it can be used as a handy diagnostic tool and a bench power supply... and it now has a lovely colour screen. Let's check it out.
    This charger was kindly supplied by Banggood for review, so please use this (affiliate) link to take a look at the full product details www.banggood.c...
    Update: There's a coupon code, use BGM8S12 to get the M8S for $49.99
    As far as power supplied goes, ToolkitRC do one here www.banggood.c... which looks nice, but seems expensive for what you get. So at about half the price (although not as pretty and it's a bring-your-own-xt60 arrangement) is this one www.banggood.c...

    Which one is best at cell balancing and and with out calibration or how is calibration out of the box? I have isdt nano6 liked the balancing it has 8-20mv of difference per cell at most in the worst batteries but got almost always 5mv difference only limits was 8A charge : discharge 1A I was able to charge 1-6s and destroy cells if needed , power output supply could output 30v 5A max . How would this other toolkitrc do against mine ? I want stronger Amperage range but without sacrificing balancing

    Does yours actually ever charge at the intended rate? Mine will but will drop amperage if cells are .02v or more or of balance and never seem to sorry yourself out. I've tried with v21 which was better than stock firmware through v30 that I'm using now

    How is the m6d compare to the m8s ? Dual charging but would it do 1s and the ability to balance without input power like the m8s?

    Fantastic review, Wayne! 😃
    I got the M6 and, man... I couldn't be happier! 😃
    I keep it in my backpack, only take it out to change batteries. 😂

      That's a perfect size for a portable charger. I just wish the M6 had the same screen as the M8S

    Picked one of these and a (AC) power supply off of BG. Plugged it in to charge a couple of 4S Lipo's and kept getting "Cell Error" messages. One pack would in particular would not charge up. So...thought to update the firmware from the 1.10 to the current 1.12 by plugging the USB into my computer. Turns out...I have a Mac...that I can do nothing with the PC friendly Exe. file so unplugged it and re-connected to the power supple and nothing. Would not start-up. Black screen. No sign of activity. Must have somehow blown a fuse or perhaps something else. Any thoughts? Have you had or heard of anything similar? I've written BG for return/repair/replacement but don't expect to hear back from them until next week after CNY. I liked the small form factor/price/and AC/DC but the "Cell Error" issue out of the box worries me. I don't like to fiddle with things. Like them to do their job. Thanks.

      One thing these things aren't is Mac friendly. Even on product where they should mount as a USB drive and you drag firmware over to them... it's only Windows based (I am on Mac as well) That said, I've never had an issue with any of the 3 chargers and 2 other tools I've looked at from them so far... not even a niggle. So it looks like you got a dodgy one from the getgo. Don't take any crap from Banggood if they give you the runaround. Make a video showing them the failure and open up a paypal dispute if they don't respond with a sensible solution. Might be worth dropping a line to info@toolkitrc.com as well describing the failure, as they've been pretty good in responding so far.

    I have the M6, interestingly, plunging a lipo into the output powers it up and it will display the balance lead outputs. Good for just checking battery charge.
    The Esc function may work just as a watt meter, connect power through the charger and PWM direct from the model receiver/FC.
    I charge flight batteries with an IDST and google lipo with the M6.
    The IDST is much better at balance charging (faster and very accurate on the last part of the charge). The M6, will pause charging while balancing. Must be time to throw some lipos away.

    Do not buy the product from Bangood. I saw complaints about the product. Although I requested a replacement within about 1 hour after purchasing the product. They created a notification. I understood that it would take a long time and asked for the order to be canceled. I warned that the product could be sent until the notification is processed. They said don't worry. They shipped the product today and I can no longer exchange or refund. I think it was done on purpose. They forcibly sold the product. Bangood is no longer honest and reliable

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So are you saying that you bought it, and then decided it wasn't for you and so asked to cancel - they said ok, but it would take a while.. .and while this time delay was going on, it shipped ? If you feel they had told you one thing and did another, and you have chat logs/emails to back it up, then open up a paypal dispute and demand your money back

    banggood need to sort their shit out regarding the lies they claim in the specs of products, peopele will but that from seeing on there website and then when they find out its discharge is not as advertised banggood wont care.
    i recently bought a full android watch from them which they claimed to be ip67 waterproof.
    i would never have fully submerged it regardless but expected it to be spashproof at the very least but tw days after getting it my watch ges into boot loops because water got into it when i went out in the rain for 2 mins.
    the watch is not ip67 and the manufacturer has made that very clear to me, banggood was just up to its old bullshit specs tricks and now they are trying to wriggle out of responsibility.
    I have a screenshot of the lies in the specs and paypal can deal with them now.

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      People do buy on the basis of the specs on the website. I remember my unfortunate experience of buying XF 850mAh 4S lipos. Not only were they crap, they weighed twice as much as it said on the website ! PayPal should sort your out though - but it's annoying isn' it

    • @stevefox3763
      @stevefox3763 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CurryKitten yeah, it's not right that BG lie in the specs to sell, so many people get misled and it also harms the brand being sold too.
      Another thing I've learned with Banggood is the insurance is not worth the money you pay for it, I had a plane I bought which was damaged in shipping, id paid for insurance but Banggood refused to honor it and I had to get PayPal to refund me!
      I was a happy BG customer for a couple of years and I've spent and obscene amount with them but in recent months they have destroyed my trust in them and I've started buying from other sites wherever I can out of protest.

    One of the best reviews out there for this charger, thanks! How does one calculate what is a suitable amperage to charge and discharge at? In single charge and in parallel, thanks

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Charge at 1C, so an 1800mAh lipo I would charge at 1.8A and a 2200mAh at 2.2A etc. Some lipos support being charged at above 1C, but it's always friendlier. With parallel charging (aside from the fact it's a big old can of worms and you need to be very aware of your lipo cell count, resting voltage, age of batteries etc (I don't do it anymore, flame came out of 2 charging boards and that was the end of it for me)) you multiple lipos are seen as one big one to the charger, so if you are charging 3 x 2200mAh lipos in parallel then you charge for 3s at 6.6A. Whilst you can decide what is a reasonable discharge rate for your lipos, I do tend to discharge at 1A as well - just to be super gentle, although it's not necessary

    Have a powerfull graupner charger already for years and recently bought 10$ a lipo checker with a battery + charger tester too that you had recommended eastern I guess:
    URUAV S6 LiPo Servo- & Receiver Tester
    That set, the graupner + URUAV piece for checking covers my current needs perfectly.

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool. Chargers seem to be like good old work horses don't they. I've never had one fail on me, and I've only replaced because I wanted to charge multiple lipos (without parallel charging). If only lipos lasted as long :)

    Good videos Mr Kitten Joshua Bardwell said you were good been watching love your videos I wanted to ask you a question about the mobula 7 and 65mm eachine all there little motor wires have popped out on all with minimal use is this the Case with you. Or maybe bad batch of motors this go around.? Because all of mine did, Just pop's out no reason?

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you say popped out, where abouts do you mean. That little connector that goes into the board, or somewhere else. Mine has been absolutely fine and I've spent a great deal of time crashing it into trees and other things. I do think they slightly refined the design after the initial review batch though... but that said, I've had no issues with the eachine models either. Be good to understand whats popping out where though?

    Ah at last, a review on the new M8S, been thinking of getting one but was waiting for someone to review it first, although there’s not a lot of difference between it and the older M8 I do prefer the newer UI and that it’s 400W.
    I would be interested to know for the new colour display is readable in direct sun light?

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a really great question, and in retrospect I wish I'd thought to have shown that in the review. I just went outside and plugged it in. The display is nice and bright and visible. I've got some direct sunlight outside at the moment, and the sun is low in the sky - no issues putting it down and easily reading the display - I was quite impressed. You can, by changing the angle, make the sun reflect directly in your eye - it will (don't do that all I can see is sun now) stop you seeing anything. So I'm not sure how this will translate to really bright sun just in the wrong place. I guess it's a bit like using my iPhone XR which is great in sunlight, but if it's very strong and direct, then it's a struggle
