Yup. As long as you are not oversetting pins and cat move the pins up high enough to set them, it is personal preference. Usually I starts with the pick I want to use, and the lock tells me to do something different.

I've noticed on some Best Locks, at least 2 out of every 10 locks - I always pick them to control before the key shear.
It is a joy watching you pick locks.
Master lock co produces lock more than 100 years so for sure it is much better than you tube pickers told us.

Lab conditions and real world are not the same thing so Master locks are infact some of the greatest products ever made.
