Buchla Music Easel - giants of downtown

  • I've had the Easel for a bit now and was really adamant at first about doing the whole "easel only" cassette release (which I'm still considering) but initially I was just to trigger happy starting patches from scratch and seeing where it could go.
Now that I've come to grips with it a little and have a little more patience its easier to piece together a "song" instead of little jams.
This patch has been sitting for 3 days now running non stop and everytime I found a free minute I'd come jam it. Eventually I felt I had enough ideas to put together and try and make a video!
The music easel seems to really shine when you take something "traditional" and blend it with just a little Buchla, which is how the tempo of this track works. The sequencer is controlling the gates/envelopes and speed up just the tiniest bit when the high notes are triggered. It's subtle but its something that really makes performing on something like this unique.
As far as the whole patch goes, feel free to comment and I can chat all day!

Would you recommend the Buchla or the Make Noise B&G as a complete system if you were buying only one? I know they're very different, but which do you find more satisfying as a standalone?

What stand are you using for the easel?

Very nice patch and piece. How do you make the sequencer speed up when the high notes are triggered?

Actually, I think I've figured one way to do that out. I have Easel-K and faster tempo of sequencer when higher notes are played could be achieved through Radio/CV2 going into the Pulser CV input when CV2 values would be higher for higher notes. Sequencer is triggered by Pulser in this scenario. Still curious to know your way, though :)

martinjazz78 think you basically nailed it. I can’t see for sure the patch or remember but I think it’s exactly what you said. Sequencer modulating the pulser so it speeds up on the high notes and pulser controlling sequencer speed!

Hope that works for you! Also, real jealous of your easel K. I miss mine so much :(

Actually that's bloody smart to control Pulser with Sequencer triggered by Pulsar ;) I would have more questions about your patch, but not sure, whether it makes any sense to ask, if you don't remember....
