Good job Joe on finding another fixer, saving a machine from dying and keeping the Sport Quad's going. I posted in Joe's KX $500 bike find how he's getting these deals. This isn't aimed at everyone but those that freak out about this comment are the ones you can get the deal from.
JOE!!!!! Don't sell the CR500, get rid of the SXS. Do a poll see what the viewers would do.
Now for Straight one line answers:
    1) Yes the seller smoked the engine and tried an STP oil additive, when Joe drained it you can see the separation from the thicker sludge.
    2) When pulling the swing arm bolt out, remove the rear shock as it's putting immense pressure on the bolt.
    3) Replace all swing arm and shock roller/thrust bearings, they may look like rusted washers and when they lock up permanent things wear.
    4) Inner bearings/seals no matter how good they look, there is more wear than you can just see.
    5) Flush cases/gear assembly in a solvent bath, part cleaner, mineral spirits to remove any slivers of metal
    6) After a total rebuild ANY metal on metal contact gets "Assembly Lube", I use the red Summit brand, local stuff can be bought at any automotive store.
    Misc info:
-The cylinder has a steel cylinder liner so sticking a magnet to it only proves it's steel not a nikasil coating.
-If you get a new to you machine change and flush all fluids filters, replace spark plug. NEVER take the sellers word.
-To #3) A test to prove the bearings are junk; jack up bike to raise rear tire off the ground, pull up on the wheel if the swing arm moves up 1/2" or more bearings are scrap and make the rear bike loose and dangerous.
-BIG ONE HERE!!!!! The RPMs are adjusted on the CARB IDLE SCREW!!!! Not the adjusters on the handle cable. That's a Rookie
-Make sure the brakes work freely and don't stick or work at all. Bleed the system if you have hydraulic brakes, it only takes about 8-12oz of DOT Brake fluid to do the whole system. Black or brown fluid is bad and very corrosive.

The 2004-2006 YFZ450's are notorious for crank bearings going out ... especially if you don't keep up with the oil changes ... In 2007, Yamaha added the oil squirter to the clutch side case cover, that shoots a stream of oil into the crank rod bearings.

    • @kylebeach2316

41:04, he reason the BOLT was so danged hard to remove - after it was almost out, was that you had "ball-peened" the threaded end so much, the diameter of the threaded end was so much MORE than that of the hole, which resulted in the force needed to slide it through
Can I make a suggestion, for the next time/s you have frozen bolts to remove - use a car steering rod bearing puller, but have a sliding hammer that you can screw into the bolt hole of the claw, instead of the bolt which pushes the steering joint out of the arm.
That way, you will have an "in-line" hammer - instead of that 45 degree obtuse angle to work with.

You are going to want to install a 07 450 oil pump, inner clutch cover and wrist pin squirter. Look up oil pump mod for 04 to 06 yfz450s. Crank failures are common for these years. Yamaha cured the issue in 07.

Someone must have done an oil change and got busy and forgot to add. One way to cook an engine is to run out of oil. Good thing the crank stopped it before anything else got damaged.

Another thing that could be the issue is it has the wrong main jet inside the carburetor to. That can cause those same types of issues on those engines to. Cause A offset main carburetor jet can cause those no power.& Get up.& Go issues to. If that tab is broken off to it will effect the timing for sure. It might need tig welding done.,or mig welding done to fix that tab problem on it to Joe. It has to o be on that engine block.,or separate spacer plate one. On those split case engines for sure.

Heat then spray immediately with (I use PB) penetrant. Then try to turn. Took me 2 weeks of heating and soaking but I finally got it. If you ride alot ot wet areas, takenit out and grease it every fall. Never had my own ever get stuck. Nice job..👍

  • @dc6233
    @dc6233 ปีที่แล้ว

If you want your shit to last, keep the oil full and run good oil. Clean the air filter and always warm it up before riding; And if you take your brake levers and kick starts apart ever so often and grease them up they will last a long time. And it doesn't hurt to grease the swingarm bolt and the axles once in awhile. I'm into the mid 80's Honda ATC's, and when I get nice parts I can make them last for decades, but all too often people just want to ride, they won't even check the oil, and they just ride it until it breaks...
