I noticed that both are very good kickers, indeed. Another thing, is that the kick is different in the side kick drills than in regular freestyle. Both have bigger and relaxed leg movement in the side kick drills than in regular freestyle. In the regular one, the kick is much more subtle and streamlined, as you would expect. I really struggle with kicking, especially in the on the side drills with more or less no propulsion. On another note, I might never achieve any good degree of propulsion since I know that my ankles are to stiff, even with one ankle being stiffer than the other making me feel imbalanced.
Try to initiate the kick from your hips. Squeeze the gluts, tighten your lower abs, and relax the ankles as much as you can. You will notice the difference immediately.

I kick a lot harder and faster yet I don't seem to be moving as fast as they did. Is there more to just kicking faster and harder?
+tts80 Hi, as far as I know your problem is probably your technique, just look for videos that show you how to improve your kicking in freestyle swimming. I watched some good videos that explain you the most typical errors...Look them up.
Li, they are intended to be done in sequence. spend more time on the ones that need more attention. My drill videos break each stroke down to basic parts and put them back together into a better stroke.
