I was in a band that did 2 Christmas gigs for the patients in Ashworth in 1991 and 92. Strange experience, audience seemed mostly medicated. We got talking to a genial young guy who played guitar and had a real interest in the band. We didn’t realise he was a patient because he seemed perfectly normal. However, he had actually murdered his family and had been judged to be kept ‘at Her Majesty’s pleasure’. We learned his ability on guitar was actually quite incredible and the pressure he was put under to keep exceeding his skills had sent him over the edge. He was also extremely intelligent. Maybe if he’d been left to grow his skills at a natural pace events would have been different.

Psychiatric nurse here - used to work in forensics. Met a lot of high profile people. Its can be an exciting job; but the novelty wears off. It desensitized me in the long run. I decided to leave and work with the general public instead. Its a difficult job to do. Some people are genuinely unwell and need to be in hospital, others just belong in prison. It makes it difficult to do your job and not be judgemental etc. i had guys from Cat A on no meds, that had no business being in hospital. i dont think anyone should work in these environments for too long though its not very healthy. Secure units are not fun, most of my patients preferred prison and wanted to go back. Its extremely tedious and if you dont get along with the staff youre in for a long ride. Doing 10+ years on a secure locked ward is no joke

Commending you here & all of you for this work & the service you're providing & those before you !! I'm not in this area myself but I have a degree in another area of vulnerable people or at risk etc wraparound services !! I have one thing came to mind here if someone wants to do the "insane person" rigmarole ... " THE ONE WHO FLEW OVER THE CUCKOOS NEST" ... meaning it's not what's cracked up to be & if they are taking the piss then they're taking a space of someone who is in urgent need of such a form of treatment and that's showing once again the attitude of " don't you know who I think I am" ... and this applies to anyone who is playing the game to 1) flex their ego 2) control over their own outcomes ... thanks folks and they are ignorantly doing something they more than ever don't want to participate in or with so the timer will tick in their ability to get back to the prison - circle will go round again... regardless of their wants !! Appreciate your work and the video too hugs 🫂❤️

People normally report a huge upturn in mood after 3 days without food. Some people even report euphoria. At that point, hunger dissipates and your body produces ketones which have amazing health benefits. The lack of appetite after extreme trauma may be a natural response evolved to benefit the person after a trauma

As someone from the other side, everything you say is true.
I would always consult staff like yourself when doing assessments to get a 360 of the inmate e.g talking to himself 24/7 and not just when noticed.
I like to think high secure specialises in assessments dealing with extreme behavioural presentations, cunningness and manipulation. Oftentimes
there is a high index of suspicion to not admit but rather to watch and wait.
Eatings ones faeces, writing in blood on the wall or hunger strikes were not usually shortcuts to admission.
And yet others seemed to have their own momentum and logic to admission... as if they had to come to us... how could they not?
One thing to note is that we can also just admit certain inmates on an assessment/treatment order and return them back to prison after a relatively short time.

Complete fasting requires zero food intake or it becomes starvation and not fasting. To last 84 days he was most definitely consuming proteins and carbohydrates that are solid at some point. The Body enters Ketosis after 72 hours of water fasting. But eating any small amount of Carbohydrates will bring you out which is then starvation. A very dangerous state to be in. The thing that annoys me is ( you must of seen this Sam more times than you can remember). These high profile cases that make the news. They get sent to a hospital because they’re ill. Most of these people are just c-ts. Whilst the people that are actually ill get put on the main wings or healthcare if their lucky. Whilst it’ll be you and your fellow govs that have to look after them. I’ve lost count of how many people I’ve seen walking around the exercise yard shouting at themselves. One time I guy came out his cell stark bollock naked screaming at everyone not to drink the water as they’re trying to kill us all. We said to this screw who was fresh out of school and still wet behind the ears, when is he going to healthcare? He said to us what are we doctors? Well you don’t need to be a doctor to see he’s unwell.
