A lot of people idolise him but you have to remember, he even taxed his "friends". If he was in town, about a thousand people had a shit night because any of them could be his target. Imagine being in town with your bird and he walks past and then you wake up in hospital coz he sparked you out to impress whoever he's with.
Like it or not, the world is a better place without people like him, and those who think he's some sort of hero are kidding themselves, he'd have sparked you out, broken your jaw and made you paranoid forever for a free pint if he felt like it.

He used to tax drug dealers, he was working the doors at 18 year old he was fucking huge and murdered at least 2 people that I know of. He threw a guy out of a flat window 12 stories up and made a drug dealer inject air into his vanes before taking his drugs, money and even stole the guys trainers off his feet. Its a shame he turned into a bully and a character that nobody wanted around..ive heard many a story(like the one from the night he died)about him poisoning the atmosphere of wherever he would go and demanding free drinks to not smash places up and just taking all the drugs of local dealers etc..the problem with that behaviour is that it creates so many enemies both known and hidden and he had apparently been picking on Allo for ages before that fateful night..beating him up and humiliating him whenever and wherever he would bump into him and that night in the Blues Club was the same..Lee turning up poisoning the atmosphere and starting on Allo and this time it ended bad..shame because he was still so young and if he had packed all the heavy drug use in and matured a bit he might have been a decent bloke and even more of a legend than he already is.

I wouldn't use what the sayers say as a source of information when researching lee Duffy. Steven sayers was never confident in Lee beating Viv Graham, that's why he would take Lee to Vivs clubs on the days that Viv was off work, and the bouncers he beat up werent even tough gangsters, most of them were family men that just loved the gym, and i think its telling how it's only ever the sayers crew, and Brian Cockrill's side of the story we ever hear on Duffy and Viv, apart from paddy conroy, who actually knew (and respected) both men, and he believed Viv would of beat Duffy quite easily if they ever fought (obviously just his opinion but he had no hatred for either men). As for Brian Cockerill, I wouldnt believe a word that comes out of his mouth, especially regarding his past (hes a prolific liar, and exaggerates everything).

Ive been in Durham, there is no rec room, and he most definitely didn't spark up a joint, ten screws would've been on his head in seconds, also screws are always known as screws, even among themselves, and he always attacked the weak and vulnerable.

    • @Biggusdickuss111

I was in Durham 70s, 80s and 90s,, there was a rec room tv room and table tennis and darts on the ground floor of A wing, which housed, pedoes and grasses on the basement level and first 2 floors then YPs on the last 2,.. I was a YP in 74 and we had tv nd rec between 5pm and 7pm we used to take the section 43s the pedos n grasses, n perves buckets of tea and soup ( gravy with the vegs leftover from dinnertime ) and buns ( big hard yellow lumps of dough nearly solid ) at supper time, the screws would stop us before our first cell and spit in the tea and soup ) there would be matchsticks and cockroaches in the buns for the 43s, l was a bit disgusted but was more disgusted at what some of em were in for, they had their meals and exercise and showers seperate from the rest of the prisoners to stop them being attacked, l was on remand on the main wing thaat joined A wing in the 80s, and in 90s for breaking a court order, the rec was still there just 2 cells knocked into one, when l was there in the 70s it was a high security for male and females you could see the women in their seperte part out in the grounds dressed in bib n braces some big butch lasses who offered to rip our privates off for staring at em, the next time l was on remand as a teenager l was at low newton, which had several of my mates in there were young girls there too,, we had sunday service with them but as we entered the chapel we were screamed at by the screws to keep our gaze averted from the girls, yeah that was what we did lol,, some of the girls would deliberate turn to look at us and made bj gestures with their hands and mouths.
It was notorious for sh1t parcels, which were when banged up for the night you tore off a piece of sheet if you were busting for a crap and threw them out the windows,,, often they would burst on the walls, there was crews of lads mde to collect them every morning, one night the lad l was twoed up with called Alan from Hartlepool made a parcel chucked it out window inadvertently catching a screw with it on his cap n tunic shoulder, there was a bellow of rage, as one screw shouted l saw that come out of level 3 cell 6,, and another shouted you can see a fresh smear on the window ledge, we heard a bunch of em opening passage gates and bombingup the stairs, they wrnt to the cell next door but aa screw said no the basterd cell there ours, the door crashed open ( no mean feat as they were very heavy doors about 12 screws were in the landing one hatless and coat less, as they had ran up the stairs we sat on our beds reading mags trying to look casual, the lights were still on as it was only around. 8.30pm when 3 of the screws came in the hatless one shouted which of you filthy animals threw that shit parcel at me, the other screws were all boiling with rage wanting to do harm or appearing too dunno how real it was, we just sat dumb, stand up we were told, we did, stick your hands out in front of you we did, the screw sniffed my hands then alans," this twat" he shouted and grabbed him by the hair another two grabbed him and threw him out the cell onto the landing, the door was closed fast and l could hear blows hitting alan fists n boots and alan screaming "I'm sorry it was an accident" then just muffled pain shouts from him as they bundled him down the stairs and for a minute or so we could aall hear the smacks and kicks and grunts as they kicked the crap out of him taking him down to surgery some lads were shouting out the window wanting to know what was going on the others were shouting at the screws to leave him alone after ten mins or so a screw came along the landing banging on doors and telling everyone to shut the f up or they would all be joining alan down in the basement l think he got put in solitary but no one saw him again in the fortnight l was there,, l was taken to magistrates court and given probation for my offence of being in a riot at our local town near Redcar,
When next l was there they had placed very small bore grids to the outsides of the windows to stop the parcels.
The screws there were quick to hit you but not as bad as the short sharp shock detention centres that appeared but only lasted a few years cos of the violence done to lads by the screws who volunteered to work there so they could beat upon the lads and was sanctioned almost officially by the powers that be until even they couldnt turn a blindeye to the beatings results and ensuing suicides.
I think Deerbolt & Medomsley were involved but later became open Borstals.
Yes we were bad lads and some probably deserved tough guidance,, but many were just soft lads who got picked on by sadistic screws, the hard lads never got bothered much only the real hard core ones who wouldnt kow tow to anyone. But there weren't many.
I was well built mostly due to gentetics, my dad and uncles on both sides were big broad stocky men,, aarms like body builders just through hard work, so l was mostly left alone certaainly by other inmates, but one boro towny screw had it in for me for some reason known only to himself, maybe I'd been with his sister lol l never knew, but he tried to provoke me but got embarrassed to death when he had an Alsation which they stood with as we wrnt to work as l approached them he said something to the dog and it became fully alert, he walked towards me as if he was going to loose the dog on me but as l got closer the dog started being frisky and jumped all over me licking me and wagging its tail as if id been its long lost master, well babys and dogs had always taken a shine too me dunno why, but even l was amazed at its behaviour he staarted shouting at it trying to get it under control but when he tried to pull it away from me it growled at him and lunged for his hand,, then turned back to me wriggling and squirming and acting daft as a pup, all the other lads were laughing even some of screws, one head screw shouted at him " mr t" '' '*n get your animal under control , they made me stand still while two of them dragged the dog away, l got bailed 2 days later. Havent been in trouble since 1992, model citizen now,, l was even starting to respect the police until a run in with one a few months ago about a fairly trivial event but the copper was a right fool l literally chucked him out of my house and he ran to his van like a scared kid, bearded too, l didnt know they were allowed beards,, but if he was an example of todays coppers lord help us all.
