    I like the fact that NFL pundits think that the Seahawks hid Russell's flaws. We've been discussing it locally for years. We've watched "film" for years on receivers running free down field and Russ not finding them. As he slowed, it became ever more apparent that this is only going to get worse. That's why after the initial furor, everyone knew it was time to look forward, and not hold on to the past.

It’s pretty difficult to throw in the middle when most of the time the line collapse on him. But that’s not the real issue, he is on a team that doesn’t want him to play outside The pocket. In the first quarter Russell was 10 for 10 and a TD. Why because Russell was playing Russell Wilson football. Ryan Clark said it himself they are trying to make Russell into something he’s not.

He lost a ton of mobility in 2020 (it was after Suh on the Rams got him an ankle injury I believe in 2019 if not 2020).... he was never like Lamar Jackson, but his mobility was a HUGE part of his game to allow him to play backyard football and extend plays. That's gone... then the finger issue and apparently now shoulder issue, teams aren't respecting his arm at all which admittedly Wilson had one of the best deep balls in the league. Russell just had the worst half of his career on his way to losing his 3rd straight game for the 1st time in his career. • @woahcrash
      @woahcrash ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The actual problem is contrary to what you think. The O-line is struggling on all fronts and it's only been exacerbated because of injuries to Bolles and Meinerz. Last night, the starting RT (Fleming) had to play LT in the second half because the back-up LT (Anderson) was playing horribly. Starting C (Cushonberry) gets beat off the ball almost every play. Russ has to break the pocket sooner than normal because he can't trust the left side of the line to pass protect worth a damn. Receivers don't recognize the scramble/don't get separation on their routes, so Russ has to throw the ball away. On blitzes, the O-line has no idea how to identify the additional rushers. At least two of the Chargers' sacks on the blitz had a free rusher and one defender being blocked by 2 O-linemen, which is simply unacceptable.

    • @Satan598
      @Satan598 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@woahcrash part of the job of identifying blitz is on Russell as well. Troy Aikman pointed it out that Russell is misreading the blitz. I saw it in Seattle as well. Oline was the problem in Seattle, according to Russell, and yet Geno Smith is a top qb behind that line with two rookies starting? The line does have its fuck ups, but some of those are from Russell misreading blitz and hes missing wide open receivers and hes just missing on the plays that the line protects on as well. Im not saying its all on Russell, but he needs to be a leader in the locker room but hes not in the locker room, hes in his corner office!

    • @woahcrash
      @woahcrash ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Satan598 yeah he's a little fake to me as well, but I can't really put the pass protect woes on him. O-line has been atrocious the past two games and the Bolles injury was glaring last night. Russ is afraid to scramble - not sure if he just doesn't trust himself or his shoulder affects throwing on the run. Also, I will say he reads the field far too slow...the progressions are not quick at all. I'm hoping for improvement but the scheme last night wasn't getting people open downfield and the playcalling was highly questionable, especially passing on 3rd and 1 in OT.

    These two mostly nailed it... rare from national media. The one thing they got wrong is that Russell had ALL these same problems in Seattle, and they sorta got it right that Pete Carroll and his OCs covered up Russell's deficiencies, but then they act like he wasn't this bad in Seattle. Russell WAS THIS BAD in Seattle, especially every time the Seahawks played the Rams, going back to the Jeff Fisher Rams days. The rest of the league, for some reason, didn't catch on until years later, how to stymie and confuse Russell. Even then, Russell and his scrambling would usually still make a remarkable play or 3 each game, because that's just his QB superpower.
