    Fantastic, what a performance. No throttle on the engine, not knowing when the engine will run out of fuel.... and then the speed! Very few pilots can fly this.

  • @bjofuruh
    @bjofuruh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +211

    Speed:
    Frequency flying towards the camera: 404 Hz
    Frequency flying away from the camera: 245 Hz
    Mean Frequency: (404 Hz + 245 Hz) / 2 = 324.5 Hz
    Frequency deviation: 324.5 Hz - 245 Hz = 79.5 Hz
    Fraction of Mach1 : 79.5 Hz/324.5 Hz = 0,245 Mach
    Speed: 340 m/s x 0,245 = 83 m/s = 299 km/h = 186 mph

    • @sideshowbob5237
      @sideshowbob5237 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great to watch but far too dangerous for a public air show. What level of redundancy is there on the elevator and ailerons? None? Not to mention the pilot, who is flying to the limit of his vision. How is that insured against death or serious injury? I can't believe it is. And the consequences for ordinary flyers in the UK if it goes wrong?

    • @sideshowbob5237
      @sideshowbob5237 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @June Bug We do, the British Model Flying Association (BMFA), but I'm pretty sure it doesn't cover this sort of thing - commercial displays. (If it does, I don't want to pay my premium plus theirs.) However, the bigger problem is that the individual would rather avoid death or injury than be compensated for it. And of course crusading politicians would jump on the back of a serious accident for their benefit and our detriment.

    Saw guys flying pulse jets at a local college when I was in my early teens, '64 or there abouts, only they were inside a cage approx. 50ft diameter and they would rest their wrist on a pedestal in the center and the plane/ rocket was tethered to a handle they held. Those things were going around so fast they'd get dizzy controlling it. I'd never seen anything like it nor have I since. The only reason I was able to experience it was because I heard it eight blocks away. LoL

      It’s a valved pulse jet meaning there is one moving part being the valve. Let’s fresh air in but won’t let the hot exhaust escape. The valves tend to wear out fast because generally it’s just a really thin sheet of steel

    • @HandFromCoffin
      @HandFromCoffin 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      well.. you're totally wrong.. they burn out their flappers and are not really that reliable. Also you may have noticed a little drawback with the sound. Fuel economy is also awful.

    • @Draxindustries1
      @Draxindustries1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HandFromCoffin burning out a set of flappers is nothing to replacing the hot section of a jet engine. Noise can be suppressed and fuel economy improved with R&D..

    • @pichum4st3r
      @pichum4st3r 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Draxindustries1 Mmm there is not much improvement to be done. All a pulse jet is is a chamber and tube. There is no way in getting around the noise. The noise is caused by the the air moving back and forth in the engine which is how a pulse jet works.
