And this, This just brings back the fondest of memories. Thanks to those who put in the effort to keep fond memories alive and to create new ones worth remembering.

I like the little reference in the beginning where sonic's ears were bunny ears but soon erased to be hedgehog ears as a presumed reference to sonic's early concept being a bunny instead of a hedgehog.
Sonic early desing was also an Armadillo too. But they save it to Mighty, for this reason Mighty and Sonic are pretty similar between them, the same goes to Tails and Ray (It's like they are an alternated versions)
And here’s something even MORE sketchy (pun intended). Knuckles’ Chaotix features Mighty the Armadillo as a playable character. Have you ever noticed that his sprites look similar to Sonic’s from Sonic 1, 2, & CD? That’s because in Knuckles’ Chaotix prototype, Sonic Crackers, Sonic & Tails were the only characters in it. And Mighty appears in the very first slot on the character select screen after the title screen. Strange, isn’t it? Sonic usually appears first. That means that...Mighty in KC is a re-skinned Sonic! This makes them even MORE similar!
Classic's future is great- well, Forces kinda ruined it but, we still have good tunes, except for Faded Hill's synths which scream Sonic 4 more painfully than those dying cats. Though, I could've sworn the synths in Mania!/Time Trials are the same in Modern Sonic's songs.
To think, the man who started out making a comic that riffed the shit out of Sonic, giving us Nipples the Enchilada and Original the Character, went on to help make one of the best miniseries Archie Sonic ever had...and is now doing animation work for an official game. You've come a long way, my dude. All the respect in the world.

let me tell you this everytime I watch this trailer it feels like the first time watching it ever. just this makes me feel happy. the song makes me feel warm in my heart.
Six years now. This trailer and song jumped out to my just turned 14 year old self. The music moved me to tears. Played it probably a thousand times just within a month. Now, It gives me so much warmth and strength.
yeah that's what I'm trying to say, he doesn't talk in any of the old games but his character design (old games, mainly speaking cd design) and the way he acts is charming in a way. I'm not saying we don't need a voice actor for him but its just nice without it.
I was expecting someone would point this out, what he says there didn't mean anything to his character (it was more of a small Easter egg) . I just mean overall he was mostly known for not talking but (like I said earlier) you can see everything off him just by appearance and actions.

James Plata I'm pretty sure it wasn't coloured because the cutscenes are supposed to be a direct reference to sonic when he had just got off the design stages on paper into his first game. That's why we saw him doing the classic stuff like tapping his foot impatiently
This trailer is a wonderful work of art. I got legitimately emotional and teary eyed. Not because it's a "return to form" game or anything like that. Because as a trailer it celebrates everything that makes Sonic great. Unique level design, fun and colorful characters, and music that will NEVER leave your head. Thank you Sega and Sonic Team, Tyson Hesse and Hyper Potions, for putting together a video that regardless of what happens with the game I will come back to watch over and over for years. This is why I love Sonic.
No matter how many times or when I watch this, it just brings tears to my eyes along with the hype. This was, and probably still is the best Sonic game of all time.
Gonna be honest, this is what made me so excited for Sonic Mania back then. With the reveal, I thought it looked kinda neat (I hadn't played any classic sonic game yet anyways), but while eating at McDonald's, the trailer came up and the animation mixed with the music and gameplay made me realize this game was truly something special.
I've teared up reading through the wonderful comments, I love seeing long-time sonic fans so happy and the love and joy being shared here is a wonder to behold. Sega that should tell you how much on the right track this game is, from the marketing to the development, it's bringing that Sonic charm back for us all.

Michael Fields Was done by Archie Comics artist Tyson Hesse, you should check out the Sonic Mega Drive comics. He did a great job replicating the classic art style of the Genesis games.

I think SEGA is finally coming around. They've done quite a bit recently with this & the Bayonetta & Vanquish PC releases & I hear they're not done & that they want to revive some of their older IPs.

Gnidel I don't think legal issues are really the problem, it's more that Sega never let them finish it. I don't know why, it was a pretty dumb decision, but I don't think legal issues were the problem. Ports of Sonic 3 (Classic Collection, UGC, etc.) still had the old music. But who really knows.

Valentin Kropp maybe not. Old Sega cartridges used to sell for $60-$70 bucks for only a handful of levels. I think old school and newer Sonic fans will be happy to drop $20 for the nostalgic and for something to do before Forces hits stores.

Demigod Quagsire I respect your preference of Forces, but I'd just like to express that comments like yours really sadden me - a fan who grew up playing the original titles. Hearing things like this indicates that there are people who actually prefer what Sega has done with this beloved franchise over their original creation, which means they will continue to take Sonic in this direction. It's not that I don't appreciate them making Sonic Mania and bringing back classic Sonic in Generations and Forces. Or that I dislike the idea of a 3D Sonic game. It's just that when Sega redesigned Sonic, they made the games so fundamentally different to the originals in nearly every way that they basically said farewell to the fans of the classics. I'll never understand why Sega felt they should rebuild Sonic from the ground up instead of trying to evolve the successful formula and bring it into the 3rd dimension, and how they now feel the best thing to do is to split the character in two essentially. I can certainly see that there is somewhat of an appeal to the current 3D Sonic gameplay, but it's just not the same Sonic that fans of the original gameplay are craving. Sorry, just venting some built-up frustration is all... I'll stop here before I get too carried away.
You know i'm a huge fan of Sonic 2D too and i'm exciting by his return, i don't see the point to insult me. I'm just saying that 20$ is a little too expensive for only 6 new zones. 15$ would have been a better price because i've friends who already said to me that they will not buy it at this price since they are just regular gamer and not sonic huge fans.
So the animation can continue two ways: Sonic Mania: Sonic, Tails, & Knuckles go to the next floor without any unexpected surprises. Sonic Mania Plus: Mighty stops the elevator before it fully closes, and Sonic lets him and Ray in. If you want, you can even add this third way (even though the animation for it is fanmade): Amy?: Amy stops the elevator, but Sonic doesn't let her in and closes the elevator on her.
Brand 127 Sonic will regreat later when they grow up and Amy got boobs and don't want Sonic anymore so Sonic will get depressed and don't run anymore and went missing so it's the plot of a new Tails game: *Sonic is missing* [Spoiler] theres a new character named *⊥ails* .

If Forces is anything to look at, it is that SEGA still have a VERY shaky grasp on how Sonic should be handled. Maishida Actually, that's not a bad idea. what of they did the series that would eventually lead up to Sonic growing up/maturing into the modern Sonic that would lead up to the Adventure series. So it takes place after Mania, takes (SOME, not all) bits/mentions Sonic 4, like what happened to Death Egg MK. II/Little Planet and Metal Sonic, but that's it. Then it would eventually lead up to Sonic Adventure 1. I know there are VERY mixed feelings for Sonic 4 due to bad music/stages/physics/controls. which is why I said they mention on the short story in it. the events happened, but only the important stuff.

This trailer is a wonderful work of art. I got legitimately emotional and teary eyed. Not because it's a "return to form" game or anything like that. Because as a trailer it celebrates everything that makes Sonic great. Unique level design, fun and colorful characters, and music that will NEVER leave your head. Thank you Sega and Sonic Team, Tyson Hesse and Hyper Potions, for putting together a video that regardless of what happens with the game I will come back to watch over and over for years. This is why I love Sonic.

Gonna be honest, this is what made me so excited for Sonic Mania back then. With the reveal, I thought it looked kinda neat (I hadn't played any classic sonic game yet anyways), but while eating at McDonald's, the trailer came up and the animation mixed with the music and gameplay made me realize this game was truly something special.
I've teared up reading through the wonderful comments, I love seeing long-time sonic fans so happy and the love and joy being shared here is a wonder to behold. Sega that should tell you how much on the right track this game is, from the marketing to the development, it's bringing that Sonic charm back for us all.

Gnidel I don't think legal issues are really the problem, it's more that Sega never let them finish it. I don't know why, it was a pretty dumb decision, but I don't think legal issues were the problem. Ports of Sonic 3 (Classic Collection, UGC, etc.) still had the old music. But who really knows.

Demigod Quagsire I respect your preference of Forces, but I'd just like to express that comments like yours really sadden me - a fan who grew up playing the original titles. Hearing things like this indicates that there are people who actually prefer what Sega has done with this beloved franchise over their original creation, which means they will continue to take Sonic in this direction. It's not that I don't appreciate them making Sonic Mania and bringing back classic Sonic in Generations and Forces. Or that I dislike the idea of a 3D Sonic game. It's just that when Sega redesigned Sonic, they made the games so fundamentally different to the originals in nearly every way that they basically said farewell to the fans of the classics. I'll never understand why Sega felt they should rebuild Sonic from the ground up instead of trying to evolve the successful formula and bring it into the 3rd dimension, and how they now feel the best thing to do is to split the character in two essentially. I can certainly see that there is somewhat of an appeal to the current 3D Sonic gameplay, but it's just not the same Sonic that fans of the original gameplay are craving. Sorry, just venting some built-up frustration is all... I'll stop here before I get too carried away.
You know i'm a huge fan of Sonic 2D too and i'm exciting by his return, i don't see the point to insult me. I'm just saying that 20$ is a little too expensive for only 6 new zones. 15$ would have been a better price because i've friends who already said to me that they will not buy it at this price since they are just regular gamer and not sonic huge fans.

Sonic Mania: Sonic, Tails, & Knuckles go to the next floor without any unexpected surprises.
Sonic Mania Plus: Mighty stops the elevator before it fully closes, and Sonic lets him and Ray in.
If you want, you can even add this third way (even though the animation for it is fanmade):
Amy?: Amy stops the elevator, but Sonic doesn't let her in and closes the elevator on her.

Actually, that's not a bad idea. what of they did the series that would eventually lead up to Sonic growing up/maturing into the modern Sonic that would lead up to the Adventure series.
So it takes place after Mania, takes (SOME, not all) bits/mentions Sonic 4, like what happened to Death Egg MK. II/Little Planet and Metal Sonic, but that's it. Then it would eventually lead up to Sonic Adventure 1.
I know there are VERY mixed feelings for Sonic 4 due to bad music/stages/physics/controls. which is why I said they mention on the short story in it. the events happened, but only the important stuff.
Since when was one Sonic cartoon ever in continuity with any others? The redesign of Sonic was a retcon to a continuity where he always looked like that. A retro Sonic reboot would have to have its own continuity that fits everything looking like Mickey Mouse invading an anime
