    Just a suggestion. When removing the strut tower brace, you should loosen the jam nuts on the bar first and remove the tension on the bar, then when replacing after you bolt it back on, you would re-tension the bar. Great video though. Good stuff.

    Great Video! I am in the middle of it right now. I am trying to get the wiring harness free, but there is one wire toward the front of the car that comes off the harness(by the intake) and goes down deep to a plug that I cannot get to on the drivers side. Pain. Tomorrow I think I will jack the car up and see if I can get to it from below. That one wire, has prevented me from getting the harness out of the way so far. Good stopping point for the day. Really good instructional video!! This video has helped me out a lot. I was just wondering.. what did you mean when you said the gaskets were slightly different? Thanks!

    • @Zspeed
      @Zspeed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I actually bought the valve covers and gaskets from Nissan and they we're very expensive. So I put a link to the Amazon valve covers to save people money if they couldn't afford the Nissan parts. Now, the Nissan valve cover gaskets have different part numbers, so be sure to test fit the gaskets into the valve covers to make sure they fit perfectly! Hi Z-speed, I replaced valve covers a year ago, but i have leaking problem again. I order a new set and ready to installed as soon covers arrived. Do you think the sequence on how to adjust screws is important? and the tention on them? My guess at this point is that that where i had a mistake. Please advise. Thanks

    • @Zspeed
      @Zspeed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes there's a certain order that you need to go through when tightening the valve covers, refer to my video. The torque specs are very important and without being properly torqued your valve covers will Leak. Also, make sure that your valve cover gaskets are lightly glued into the valve covers with RTV gasket maker so they don't move around when placing them on to the motor. • @Zspeed
      @Zspeed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, oil in the spark plug tubes means that the spark plug O-rings are bad. Oil around the valve covers, means that the valve cover gaskets are bad. But either one of these leaks means that you need brand new valve covers and gaskets. links for valve covers on are here!!! :amzn.to/2LLcGLE

      I bought new upper and lower gaskets for the plenum, but the upper plenum gasket is made of metal and I could see that it might be reusable if not damaged! I would replace the lower gasket. I recently replaced my spark plugs because my car was idling poorly and was misfiring. While doing so i found there was oil on all passenger spark plugs. Went ahead and replaced them and a hour of driving later I’m having the same issue. Only codes being thrown are for the rear o2 sensors but it shouldn’t effect how the car runs, do you think that the oil is fouling the plugs and maybe this will fix it?

    • @Zspeed
      @Zspeed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most likely it's a faulty coil pack! Once you place a spark plug in the hole and torque it to spec there should be no oil leaking down and fouling the spark plug end! Although over time you might get some bleed through. Coil packs usually throw a misfire code, so I'm not sure why you're getting an 02 sensor problem.

      Hey Alex, thanks for the question! On my valve cover replacement video go to the 16:30 mark for the valve cover bolt tightening sequence, there is a certain order that the 10 mm bolts must be tightened in to get a good seal. It takes two passes, try 17 inch-pounds for the first pass and then the second pass should be 74 inch-pounds, not 70 inch-pounds. Hope that fixes your problem!! If that doesn't work, try putting blue Loctite on the end of each bolt and repeat the sequence above. Are you the original owner of this 350z? Once you push the green tab forward, that's supposed to release the connector. I had to remove my hood to get better access for this project! Just 4 bolts to remove the hood, it might give you the angle you need. Also this clip may be very stubborn, over time the heat of the engine tends to fuse this clip together so it may take a while, don't rush it! I had to use needle nose pliers to remove it after I pushed the green tab forward! Hope this helps!!!!

      I used gasket maker, use a thin line around the valve cover slot! You may be able to remove the valve cover without disconnecting the engine harness, if it will not disconnect try to remove the old valve cover. This may give you more room to access the clip!

  • @roofclean
    @roofclean 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So i did the valve covers , here's my experience take your time and have patience as Z-speed said . The plug for the camshaft sensor(drivers side near the firewall ) was a pain, instead of just pushing down on the release tab you need to slide it until it snaps and then it can be released and when you reinstall it, it will lock itself . For me the passenger side was a pain not much room where the wire harness goes into a plastic shroud and the fuel line piping, a little force with a small wood broom stick worked well , the worst was the lower rear valve cover bolt (passenger side) . I used a 1/4 in drive in this area gave enough room vs a 3/8 drive I also put a piece of paper towel over the socket then pushed the head of the bolt in place , holds it pretty tight .As stated in the video put rtv gasket seal every few inches under gasket sure helps keep that gasket in place
    I bought all my parts at Z1motorsports there also is ConceptZperformance there all OEM Nissan
    I Change all the gaskets and I also needed the pvc hose and the valve cover cross over hose , both were very hard and brittle i bought the silicone hoses from Z1
    took me about 14 hours i did not rush and all is well thank God
    Again thank you Z-speed for the great video and advice

      let me add since I removed the throttle body while attached to the upper plenum , I found it much easier to to reinstall the throttle body ( 5mm hex )after installing the upper plenum , much easier to install the hoses , As z-speed said do not move the butterfly in the throttle body if your cleaning it and disconnect the battery

    Hey Z-speed, did I hear you correctly....I had to come back to see your video again. You replaced both New OEM factory Valve Covers? Now underneath (meaning-inside) where by "the Spark Plug base is" there should be a Flat grommet gasket as part of the SEAL. You said "THOSE RUBBER O-Rings Go Bad!! at 12:22 "This part is crucial for keeping the OIL from seeping into the Spark plug which ultimately causing the engine to mis-fire!! So you replaced 2 new valve covers??

      Make sure you use NGK iridium plugs, check owners manual. If that's not the problem, it is most likely a bad coil pack. The coil packs usually last from 100,000 - 125,000 miles. Since you just changed the plugs, sometimes just removing one from a plug can damage it. Once they get old they become brittle inside and the wires can tear and that's not always visible from the outside! Hope this helps!

    Nice video but about 50/50 on some of the information provided. Not sure what you were accomplishing with disabling the PCV unless you're moving to a properly vented catch-can arrangement. Those small filtered vents will end up providing you a nice oil mist and will be something that need to be cleaned regularly. People forget that an engine is a pump - as much air that goes into the cylinders is also pumped around the crankcase which is why we have to provide some system to control it. Old cars used to have road vent tubes, then we went to PCV which were much cleaner. Also the spark plug tube seals are available as a replacement item so they are serviceable - most people fail at it simply because they use the improper tools. I don't have a problem with using some additional sealant on the valve cover gaskets in as long as it is not a silicone based product. Silicone and rubber simply do not mix. And I have had multiple throttle bodies off and on over the years on different Nissan/Infiniti products and not once have I had to do any re-learning sequence. I think a few people screwed the pooch on that one and it became an internet legend.

      Should be the same if it has a single intake versus a dual intake. Check out my updated Valve cover gasket replacement video here: th-cam.com/video/_15ivIVS9_I/w-d-xo.html

    Great video although the music volume is too high vs the narration audio. Hard to hear what he's saying. In fact no music would be best.

    I ordered new valve covers from eBay because mine were leaking in the spark plug tubes and I ordered them from Auto Parts Zone 2008 website out of New Jersey after 100 miles both valve covers were leaking into all six of my spark plug tubes it was a total waste of money I will not be ordering from them and be advised do not buy these valve covers

    Even watching it at twice the normal speed on your video it's absolutely unbearable with the terrible music that you have associated with your procedure on installing valve cover gaskets. It is an informative video but please remove that terrible music and maybe re-record your audio. Just a little bit of feedback
