If ANCAP developed a rating system for hotels, they would decide a hotel gets maximum of zero stars if it doesn't have fast wifi. Thats how random and bizarre their requirements are. So this car is 5 star international, 4 star just a year ago, but now zero star because someone at ANCAP decided auto-mated breaking - which is more likely to make you stop when you want to quickly pull out.
So you're saying that if a cow suddenly appeared on the road, you should want to quickly pull up, not stop altogether 🤔?. Must be the screeching of the tyres may cause permanent hearing impairment for the cow, so better just hit it quietly with no autonomous braking screeching of tyres!. As of today-ish, a 2024 Volvo XC60 (among others) has no safety rating purely because it ‘expires’. Always worth reading more into a safety rating like the guys say in the video.
The problem with the Scorpio's safety rating is because ANCAP needed to make a public spectacle of cars that didnt conform to thier whims, the car's crashworthiness is sound, its not easy to get 5 stars in GNACAP because they actually crash cars to see if the persons inside will make it out in one peice and not on gimmicks like ADAS.
Matt. I'm 51 years old and have been licenced since just after my 18th birthday. We put too much reliance on safety tech and take away the responsibility we have as drivers. My first car was a 1970 HT kingswood, all wheel drum brakes and 3 on the tree manual. I'm still alive. I care more about crash tests than I do about what safety tech a car has. But what a nice economical car for its size and price. And you can go off road. I have towed a 130” kg caravan for 1400 km over 3 days in 35 degrees celcius, what a pleasure, doing 110 kph, fuel consumption 12,7l/100 km. Excellent
What can be done with the massive and intrusive mounting points for the 3rd row seats? They're a real problem for me! The poor storage such as a single cupholder and central bin would require a rethink of the cabin The zero ANCAP safety rating is a bad joke, especially for such a strong, well-engineered vehicle! The distractions and unreliability of all the mandatory electronic gizmos may well be contributing to the road toll, especially if drivers start relying on them! Meanwhile, the Mahindra Pikup is selling new in 2024 without any side bags but scores 3 from ANCAP! Maybe farmer's lives don't matter? ANCAP ratings would help set guidelines for almost all manufacturers to ensure their car passes them on almost majority of the parameters this would be taken care of specially when you are trying to make inroads in a country/market. I understand the rationale behind changing goal posts(somewhat necessary as well) but what I am surprised about is the lack of communication between the manufacturer and the agency. Also mapping a car zero stars because it faults on a set of parameters requires a deeper analysis and further study. My personal understanding of the situation is that for a car to score a zero stars is because the car is absolutely a safety hazard which isnt the case here and hence ANCAP ratings are biased towards few manufacturers.

Australia is well known to be a nanny state where everything is over regulated, so if you guys want to drive in autonomous bubble wrapped vehicles it's your prerogative. Vehicles are not only practical, functional and safe, they also evoke emotion and feelings. No one remembers how good safety features were, we remember how the vehicle performed and made you feel. Nice review. Captain's chairs is not new to Australia. In the late 70s I was driving an old Chrysler by Chrysler with a 360 motor and equipped with thick arm rests for both hands for driver and front passenger. More computers is more things to go wrong at the worst possible time. The best accident prevention is good driver training, a rigorous driving test, fatigue awareness and zero alcohol/drugs. Make the physical structure safe in the event of crash in terms of crumple zones, airbags, pedestrian safety etc. and leave the awareness and "smarts" to the driver.
Yeah, in Australian perspective, it has 0 star, but in Global Perspective, it has 5. But i think, you shouldn't bother with that, Think what Australia needs, Coz this thing designed for India. But if you're off-road enthusiastic, & drive responsibly like your father, you want this Vehicle no matter what.
So basically it doesn’t have stuff for idiots who’d rather update Facebook, or text, then concentrate on driving. Oh that and the ‘can you get out if it ends up under water’ test? Seriously, ANCAP have completely lost the plot. If it’s structurally designed to protect the occupants, ABS, Stability Control, traction control, effective airbags, and how about roll over (which I understand ANCAP don’t even bother testing), then great.
What star rating did Lady DI merc have??? I think it all depends on the way the crash takes place!!! Sometimes some people just get unlucky. When u fly a Boeing 777 till u land , its ur own risk!😊 good review anyway!

If further modernized, this may potentially rival the XUV 700. When the Scorpio was initially introduced in India in 2002, it stood as Mahindra's premier SUV offering. However, with the advent of the XUV 500 (previous generation of XUV 700), it carved its own niche in the market. Unless Mahindra can establish a clearer distinction between the two, they might prefer maintaining the current positioning.
My Mahindra Scorpio N (5 months old) has just been towed into Centurion Service Centre. It died on the Highway. Roadside Assist App didn't work. 9th time that the car has gone back to the dealership in 3 months currently 268 hours at the dealership.
I have trouble choosing a car because too many have not made the effort to put the column stalks the right way around for right hand drive. Can some one make this uniform for car makers to get their vehicles into this country, accident do happen when your attention is not on the road and steering the vehicle. Arm rests were in the cars before your time and so was the go pedal.
So to all the mahindra fan boys out there -the engines in these things may be ok but there’s much more to a vehicle than just engine reliability. Safety is just as important as reliability and quality is and well all I can say is there’s a reason why these things are cheaper than a lot of other brand vehicles. The safety of you and your family and other road users is more important than saving a few thousand dollars. If your only driving one of these things around on private property and it doesn’t see much highway use then that’s probably ok but as a daily driver-no thanks.
So now that u have visited India, u must be aware of the fact that Indian Roads are Savage. The ADAS systems are useless here. My friend almost got rear ended because his Honda City which has ADAS braked Hard on it's own as a response to bump on the road. I just wanna say that these cars are made keeping Indian Market in Mind. Even the cruise controls, forget adaptive, Even on Highways the car keeps going from 100 - 10 kmps to 100 again thanks to traffic and maniacs. Lastly the Cup holders. Indian Roads are so trash, a coffee cannot survive without spilling, cup holders are basically key or small things storage space here in India. Btw love your videos.

As Indian I may feel bad for Mahindra but they really need to up their game if they’re planning to be in Top10 global automobile manufacturer. ACC, ADAS, Lane control, Lane assist, some of the missing features told in this video is really needed if Mahindra wants to be competitive. Even in India, other foreign car manufacturers are providing all this. Mahindra should invest more in manufacturing to keep up with the competition otherwise they will be lagged so behind it would be hard to come back. Off- course no pointers to Thar though.
The Ancap star rating based on crash prevention is nonsense. What I as a consumer wants to know is “are my children safe when I drive into a tree” and to be honest, in this thing, no they aren’t. BUT I wouldn’t buy a family car with a 3 star rating. (I actually wouldn’t buy one without aeb, but thats beside the point) I want to know is how does it crash? Not can it avoid one.
One only needs to look at the current road toll and accident reports which highlight the failure to the DRIVER's not paying attention or actually driving the car correctly. Relying on Nanny State electronics to warn a driver to drive safely or within the boundaries is a prop for idiots
true. there are many bad reviews on TH-cam about their after-sales service. Mahindra is getting better but still has to go a long way. The attention to detail is not there. I did a test ride on the Scorpio N Z8 manual, it is big and drives well but doesn't feel like a premium SUV. The fit and finish, attention to detail, and practicality are not there. It feels like a half-finished job or done by people least interested in bringing out a finished product.

Recently the road toll is increasing, yet cars have more tech. People have forgotten how to actually drive a car.
Great example of Australia being the up side down place... Global NCAP 5 stars... ANCAP 0 stars 😂😂😂

The poor storage such as a single cupholder and central bin would require a rethink of the cabin
The zero ANCAP safety rating is a bad joke, especially for such a strong, well-engineered vehicle!

Did Mahindra pay for your flights to India? Did you buy the car or is it on loan?

I have trouble choosing a car because too many have not made the effort to put the column stalks the right way around for right hand drive. Can some one make this uniform for car makers to get their vehicles into this country, accident do happen when your attention is not on the road and steering the vehicle. Arm rests were in the cars before your time and so was the go pedal.
@Indianbackpacker is coming to Australia with his mafia Scorpio N
