So I think I completely get the gist, Rick.
1.) Favor weight on your front foot.
2.) Let James Robinson hit the shot for you.

Indeed, these shots are so hard. That's why I think James could've said a bit more about that kind of shot. The most common problem is indeed too much wrist action, like he said and putting a towel under each armpits helps for practice. But a lot of people tend to "hold of" their hands after they hit the ball. Like a cricketshot. He could have added, that after you hit the ball you can check where the shaft is pointing. If done correctly, it's always pointing at your bellybutton. That means, body fully turned to target and arms both relaxed and in control.

I watched this video for the first time last year and I can honestly say everything that James says is absolutely brilliant, all the advice is just so helpful. I have struggled to hit it out of the bunker for 20 years but his approach to hitting it out the sand just works, it worked the very first time I tried it and every time since and don't even get me started on his approach to those 50 yard shots!! I will come to watch this video every couple of months just to keep these set up and execution tips forefront in my mind. Thanks Rick and thanks James for this fantastic mini-lesson! Hope to one day make it across the pond to have a lesson with James!

Great video. I can't wait to try the tips. I am especially going to try using the 7 or 8 iron for short chipping. I have fallen afoul of the 'use a wedge for everything' school of thought of late. Your videos almost make me wish I was a Brit so that I could save my money and get a lesson or two from James. Hell, I could learn a thing or two from you.

Great video and quite simple to follow. Used to have a good short game and used those techniques specially the putting one, it’s brilliant! A question to ponder is do you really need to open a sand wedge for bunker shots if you are a high handicap golfer using a standard set sand wedge? I get the feeling the reason why pros and low handicap golfers open the face is because they play with very little bounce on their wedges hence they need to create more bounce? A typical standard normal sand irons would have 12-14 degrees of bounce. The aim for a high handicap golfer is foremost to just get the ball out onto the green but for low handicappers the aim is always to get within holing out range.

Really great advice for bump and runs James, steepen the shaft, move closer, grip down, keep weight on the left, back of centre, no wrist break, rock the shoulders...got it!!!
