Best TH-cam video on the 5.7 Smith pistol. Just bought one today. Will go to the range tomorrow.

Great video, thank you. I actually won my 5.7 in a raffle last year. I actually love it, wife to with basically no recoil. I put around 300 rounds through it and realized I needed 2 more mags for it. I usually just fill up the mags for all 3 pistols hit the range and fire them off. I have broken it down when I bought because the thing was full of oil and I will clean it after 500 rounds. Hasn't misfired yet. Hopefully the wife will agree on the Holosun. Thanks again.

Thank you for a well-done and very well-photographed review.
As for the disassembly sequence, did you do this BEFORE or AFTER you fired the gun? I'm asking because when you revealed the actual barrel after removing it from the barrel shroud/sleeve (around 8:42 - 9:15), the black finish appears covered with brown material. This is visible again,, around 9:47 to 11:05, AFTER you said the parts were cleaned. What caused that discoloration? Was it rust or corrosion? deposited copper from vaporized bullet jacket? Did it scrape-off? Partially?
The reason I ask is because when I took my M&P 57 apart for the first time, I SAW THE SAME THING, but after firing only 4 rounds. I could NOT clean it off, but I used nothing harsh like ammonia (for copper dissolution). Just Hoppe's & lubricating oil (LOTS, just like from the factory... and I KNOW mine was lubricated there & not by the retailer). So, OK, keep it wet-oiled, just like a classic 1911. Anyway, I was wondering if this will be an issue of concern over time. I guess we'll both find-out!
Again: Thank you and I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Disassembly is always after firing. It's my way of cleaning before putting it away after the range. I use carbon killer and it does cause a discoloration if it isn't dry. However, what you are seeing is blowback residue. If oil burns left over powder it makes a brown like crust almost. They do test fire the firearm at the factory so that's why you saw that even after just firing 4 rounds. You can soak that area with carbon killer and let it sit for about 10 minutes then use a toothbrush and it will come off.

I noticed a kind of reddish tint to the wispy smoke every time the pistol was fired. Very noticeable compared to the relatively ashen haze I'm accustomed to seeing when firing my pistols and revolvers; including this one.
Would stand to reason then, that the residue left on the barrel and shroud would also have the same reddish tint. I'm wondering if it all isn't just a byproduct of the brand of factory ammo being fired? 🤔

The M&P5.7 is similar like how the MP5 is roller delayed. Both are created with the intent to mitigate recoil. I own both and they are great

Hi There, Do you happen to know if Micro Comps like Strike Industries's Quad would work on the 5.7? Any chance you can test it out? I'm considering a Micro Comp to hide the ugliness of the thread protector 🤣

Did yours come with a second spring guide rod? Mine had a second one in a branded bag behind the foam with the booklets.

Does your holosun come loose? The screws sent with my 507k do not seat properly. Im wondering if you bought other screws to properly mount the optic?
