Hi carbon bits are the best by far, the gold ones work OK on soft metal. Any lubrication will work, I tend to use penetrating oils on smaller holes under .187 and heaver oil on ,250 and up. But that's just me
Good advice Steve . Slow and steady wins the race ! I have found that to be true drilling concrete too , if the drill spins to fast in combination with the hammer the bit will only last a dozen holes before it’s spoiled . Believe it or not some brands are better than others for this task . Saving hundreds of dollars in sds bits alone
Yes ! 👌 💯 pretty sure the world to the story probably spans many things even beyond drilling. I was so anxious to get holes drilled as fast as I could back in the old days. I wish I had that time back and the money
Good advice. 👍🏻 Its a funny thing at work. Anytime some attempts to drill anything, they immediately pull the trigger and use maximum RPMs. No one ever understands the words variable speed😮 or simple instructions. Maybe it's just where I work😅
Joe , I was the same way .... sadly 😥 blowing bits , bull in a China cabinet, breaking bits . No one ever showed the right way , I'm still learning every day .
great advice it saves your drills also. when i was doing truck repair we had a magnetic drill doing 3/4 inch holes it turned so slow you could watch it i bet we were getting over 100 holes per bit and truck frames are hardened
My problem is that my drop press will not go down that low. I have like a multitude belt and it still runs faster than I want it to much of the time. But the real problem. I don't get to my drop. Press is that i've had it hoarded in so i'm fixing that . Haaahaaa
@KB3UKTKB3ULN same Edward trust me , I wish I had all that time and money back 😪 it all makes sense to me now . Just goes to show , if we can help others it's special
Steve you will help 1000s of people. Buy 1 top set of drill bits mine are 24 year old now. Or buy 10 sets of gold drill bits from pound lands. You would be back at pound lands with in 24 years to buy more as they suck.
Well that is my experience as well , DAZ I never pass on a good bit , my gosh they are so expensive 😅 but also the time I have wasted and the frustration over the years 🙃
@@doinsngoins It's great when you find the top drill bits at the yard sales You go to Steve. A old saying in the UK pay ones for top drill bits, or pay twice junk drill bits.
Thanks for that, it’s good information to have. 🙂👍🏻👍🏻
I have complete new sets of drill bits. Yard sales and boxing days. Thank you for showing us how it is done, Steve. Stay safe and stay warm
If you know Mr. Garry….you know I would say the Yellow & Black drill bits and tools are the BEST!
I'm not familiar with the yellow ones , I pretty much stay with Black unless I pick others up in tool lot purchase, I will buy lots .

Thank you Gregory, I appreciate the feedback, I use the Cutting oils as I get it for free at sales 😀 , I have 5 lifetimes of oil ..... 🛢

Awesome, I have a MAG drill system it is amazing 👏 you get it Howard, thanks for sharing.
⚠️👷🏻♂️⚠️👷🏻♂️I would use an oil can or water spray bottle when drilling like that Steve! Just add a few drops of oil or water to the drill hole!
I use cutting oil , however I will keep this in mind for sure , thanks Garry ! Thank you
great info to have
Thanks James
,,,,👍👍,,,, i`ll slow my drill press down & try this,, now that vice your using pretty cool,,
My problem is that my drop press will not go down that low. I have like a multitude belt and it still runs faster than I want it to much of the time. But the real problem. I don't get to my drop. Press is that i've had it hoarded in so i'm fixing that . Haaahaaa
You're right, though the technique would still apply to drill presses
Nice 👍
